Visited on a few occasions and the food is always exceptional, if a bit pricey. On this most recent visit, the service was poor. It took 15 minutes to get our drinks and then a further 5 minutes to take our food order. As mentioned, the food was incredible but then it was a while before our plates were cleared and then, after they were cleared, we were left sat at our table for around a further 20 minutes where we waited to see a dessert menu. I had to get up and find someone to get a menu and for our order to be taken. We were sat in the section off the main building, by the front door, and it very much felt like we were forgotten about on a couple of occasions. A number of tables around us seemed to come and go during our near 2 and a half hour “experience”. There was a small “gesture” in that our table was booked for 2:45pm by someone else and this was moved as we would have still been there eating our desserts during our 12:30pm booking. I hope this is a one off but I think we may try somewhere else before considering the Royal Hotel in future.

Ordered a takeaway forgot part of our order had to redeliver. Chicken full of water and tough. Garlic mozzarella bread dry. Felt like the food was rushed and chucked together. Disappointing and will not be reordering again for prices charged.

We went for a meal booked in at 6pm ... got drink and starters almost right away. We asked the waitress with the Sunday roast did we need to add veg to it which she replied yes and proceeded to tell you what and portion sizes . Well when it finally arrived at least an hour after our starters we received the roast beef which had veg , potatoes and yorkshire pudding , but more and more veg arrived obviously we were very confused by this, the waiter did take some things off the bill. Roast beef was very fatty. Overall not the best experience.

So expensive. Even the basics are expensive. Lovely pub and beer garden. Thank goodness the local caravan can access the pub and restaurant, because the locals can't!

We booked a table for 7pm and were shown to our table immediately. No problems with the service however my Partners food was very disappointing. He had black pudding as a starter and it really needed more sauce. I tried some and as 'the bombs' were quite big they were very 'claggy'. I had the chicken chaat, which I enjoyed. I had the warm Maroccan salad which had a good flavoured sauce. My Partner had cheese and onion pie - this consisted of a dish of melted cheese and onion with puff pastry on the top. Not enough pastry for the cheese. The worst part were the triple cooked chips and the peas. The chips were soggy and when you cut into them fat just oozed out. It was obvious the oil/fat hadn't been hot enough when the chips had been put in. The peas were very pale and like bullets. How can you get chips and peas wrong? The only thing we complained about were the peas. The waitress returned with our bill and the excuse was the chef was colourblind 🤔 My Partner is colourblind but it doesn't stop him cooking good food! He left a good proportion of his meal, which he never does. He needed to eat again that evening at home which shouldn't happen when you've just paid £77 to eat out. We had 2 drinks each (mine was just coke) We eat out a lot and are happy to pay this amount or more for good food. Very disappointing after we'd been looking forward to dining in the refurbished pub. BTW...The main dining room has a lot more character than it used to have.

Called in as were att3nding a family funeral and wanted breakfast before the day started. Great menu and service was not bad. Full English cooked well and Eggs Benedict cooked to perfection. Nice decor and in a good location with plenty of parking.

Lovely bar and restaurant along the Lancaster canal. Friendly and welcoming staff throughout. Large beer garden, with access from the canal tow path. Good selection of beers, wines, and a delicious sounding menu. We only stopped off for a drink, but the food looked lovely. Great atmosphere.

The food was great - as always - however, the place was extremely busy and for some reason they only had two or three members of staff in front of house. This meant that the service was terrible - this is the second time it has been like this when we have come for lunch at mid-day on a weekday and does not seem fair to have two members of staff running all over the place trying to get to everyone. It was quite clear that there was a fair few large bookings coming (as set out by the reservation labels) so you would have thought that management would have put additional staff on to alleviate any stress or problems. It took about 15 minutes for our order to be taken and luckily the food came out super quick but we asked for the dessert menu however nobody came back over to take our order because it was so busy. We decided to pay and leave after waiting 20 minutes.
