This hotel is such a gem. Friendly, clean, and the best location you could ask for. If you like boutique hotels, this is the place to stay. I've seen some comments about noise. The property is centrally located in downtown La Jolla where people live, dine and operate their businesses. The city takes regular care of the infrastructure. If that's too much "noise", probably best to stay in a remote location. I couldn't imagine having had a better hotel experience.

I've never had so many things go wrong with one hotel room just for one night. My husband and I stayed here one night for a wedding nearby. We arrived at 3:30pm and given room 101. We were told that the door to our room was out on the street, meaning you had to exit the hotel's main entrance and walk down the sidewalk to access. I asked if they had a room on a higher floor (as I originally requested in the booking) and they said that they didn't see that note until just now and, unfortunately, they were fully sold out. The door to our room was right on the sidewalk of a main street. No barrier and not set back. So close that you can hear the conversations of folks walking by. The only little window in the room sits right on the sidewalk as well so we had to keep it closed. It felt like we were in a basement. The room was also two queen beds instead of the king room that I booked. When I asked about this the next morning, I was told that we were given a "complimentary upgrade" to a queen suite. I never asked for this and, in fact, would've preferred the original room we booked but it was too late for that by the time I asked. Anyways, we quickly changed and went to the wedding. When we returned to the room late that night, the majority of the bathroom was flooded and seeping into the carpeted bedroom. We put our unused bath towels on the floor and I notified the front desk. The front desk man was polite and apologetic but not helpful. They offered to bring us new towels (which we never actually received) and reminded me again that they were fully sold out so they couldn't move us. Did not offer to call someone to fix it or even clean up the mess... so we spent the night managing the mess and the sopping wet towels. While the street was quiet at night, you could hear every movement from each adjacent room. I am usually not very sensitive to noises (I am a heavy sleeper and use a noise maker) and I was awoken several times throughout the night because of people walking around or using the bathroom, etc. The AC unit (which was right next to one of the beds) made a very noticeable squeaking noise when in use. When I went to the front desk to discuss this all with them, they apologized but did not offer anything to remedy. For a room that is over $500/night, this is simply unacceptable. Conclusion: Not worth your money. Go elsewhere.

Very noisy. Room was so small it couldn’t even have a dresser. No elevator. We were there for our 25th anniversary and they did nothing to celebrate us at all. We will never go back. Very disappointing. So over priced for a room and stay that was no better than a Days Inn.

Delightful stay - just what we needed for a weekend break with family. La Jolla is magical and the Cormorant is right in the middle of it. Long walks overlooking the ocean were therapeutic. The reception staff - Chole, Angel in the morning and another in the evenings - set the tone with warm and friendly greetings. I would stay again.

Excellent location but our stay left much to be desired. Upon checking in, I showed them a screenshot of the amount I was quoted online, which was considerably less than what I was actually charged when making my reservation. I was told to speak with the manager when checking out on Monday, which I did. She also refused to meet the amount that I was quoted. Also, The hotels restaurant services are spread throughout the hotel. Was constantly running into servers, dishwashers, etc. In the hallways. Great location in a beautiful city, but probably not where you want to stay.

To start… The front desk staff was absolutely lovely – friendly, helpful. However, everything else was less than ideal. While the small room size was perfectly fine for a short stay, the noise level was surprisingly high, even with the windows closed. I could hear drunken conversations from the restaurant/bar downstairs quite clearly. While it might be funny for a minute, it did get old after a while, especially with an early morning flight. On a similar note, the restaurant seemed quite busy when I tried to grab a bite to eat around 5pm. The layout wasn't very clear, and I wasn't sure where to find the hostess. Unfortunately, a waiter I approached didn't acknowledge me, so I took my business elsewhere. Overall, the hotel's location is convenient, but the combination of noise and messy layout doesn't quite justify the cost for a one-night stay. Perhaps some soundproofing in the rooms and clearer signage in the restaurant could make a big difference.

Little room with tiny window just big enough to capture car headlights hitting your eyes as you went to sleep

Amazing stay, though the rooms are small, it's a great location, service was great! Staff was amazing consistently and addressed any asks we had. The rooftop bar was great! Only complaint was the elevator not working so we couldn't take our handicapped family member up to the Birdsview with us.

We enjoyed our stay at the Cormorant. We were just there one night, but everything was very efficient, clean and the staff was friendly at all times. I would recommend it to others who want to be right in the action of La Jolla--close to everything!
