This is the kind of traditional Japanese inn I love. The bathhouse is located outside the residence, keeping the room from getting damp and clogged. There's also a sense of ritual about going to and from the bathhouse. The bathhouses are separate for men and women, and shoes need to be removed at the entrance, so if you're shy, you can avoid them by seeing slippers by the entrance. Mornings and late evenings are the most pleasant, and rainy days are especially pleasurable. The breakfast and dinner meals are even better than those at Kyoto ryokan (Japanese inns). The ingredients are incredibly fresh, and the utensils and presentation are beautiful. Sanzen-in Temple is just a short walk away, so you can go early, but I recommend Hosen-in Temple, less than 100 meters away. Refreshments are included with your admission ticket, and it's rightly called the "Picture Frame Garden." Sit quietly for a long day and relax.

We took a taxi to this location because it was a little too far by bus, and we had all of our luggage with us. The location is beautiful. If you're only staying for one night like we did, then you should check in at the earliest (3:00 pm) so you can explore the local area. There are some really nice shrines nearby. We were only able to do this after breakfast the next morning. We also had to be out by 10:00 am, which surprised us because it was listed as 11:00 am on Trip.com. You will be served traditional Japanese cuisine for dinner and breakfast. They do an excellent job of presenting all of the dishes, and the service is also incredible. But if you're not used to eating raw fish, or traditional Japanese cuisine in general, you should definitely bring your own snacks to eat in your room! We stayed in the Garden view room with tatami mats. The staff will actually rearrange the room for you during dinner and set up your beds if you select this room. That was a very nice touch, so make sure you don't leave your room a total mess before dinner! I have added a picture of the beds after they were set up. The garden view was well worth the money we spent for it. Very relaxing and beautiful. And surprisingly enough...the tatami beds were super comfortable and warm!

The hotel is next to Sanzen-in Temple, and is a Japanese inn style. It was a bit cold to stay at night in December. The area is not large. I wanted to see the red leaves of Sanzen-in Temple, but they were almost fallen when I arrived on the 5th. If you want to experience it, just stay for one night. Overall, it is not as convenient and comfortable as a star hotel. Breakfast and dinner are not bad, but not amazing. Take it as a Japanese cultural experience.
