Backwater Heritage Homestay

Very hospitable hosts, loved all the home made meals by Mrs. Lovely Xavier, we also loved the fresh juice and fruit from their own garden. Never ever have I seen such abundant, giant mangoes, all within grasping height. The kayaking and boating was a good experience. Our stay was a delightful, comfy and relaxing ................... so we extended our stay by a day. If you like lazing around all day and have no fancy expectations, then this is fantastic value for money.

had a wonderful stay at backwater heritage. there's a beautiful & quiet garden with lots of birds, perfect to read a book (for example bei arundhati roy, she grew up just a few minutes away in ayamanam). food was delicious as well. felt like paradise!

One of the best Homestay in the entire Kerela! My husband and I spent around 2 months in this very beautiful place. The vibe of the Homestay is so beautiful that waking up to the call of cuckoo bird amidst the lush greenery is heavenly. Oh and how can I forget the delicious hot coffee that was served every morning? Both Uncle and Aunty are like extended family members who took care of my stay with so much of care. Nothing was too much for Uncle and many a times he really went out of his way to ensure that our stay was super comfortable. Cleanliness is maintained immaculately throughout the property. The food is awesome and is cooked with a lot of attention and love. I am really going to miss my time and can’t wait to return :-)

A very nice and peaceful home stay, staff were very friendly and accommodating. Food was excellent and good value for money. The rooms are basic but clean and tidy with air con. It sits on a river and offers canoe rides.well worth the money. We would certainly go back.

A great place for individuals and families to spend a quiet and comfortable few days, away from the usual fast-paced daily life. Located in a serene and beautiful small town in Kerala, with hosts Mr. Xavier Joseph and his wife Lovely showering attention (and unbelievably good food) on you day and night ! I loved it so much that I have been staying here on my visits over the last many years, even though my family insists I stay with them. If you are on a working vacation, as I am often, the good WiFi connection and homemade food makes it a great option. I even get a call before arrival asking what food I want and always ask for traditional Kerala dishes. Absolutely wonderful experience! For those into literature, Booker Prize winner Arundhati (Suzanna) Roy spent most of her childhood here, and the book The God of Small Things is about life around this small town.

Couple Stayed in aug 2023 for 4 nights with my husband. Awesome place for relaxation and unwinding. Ancestral property with lovely garden and overlooking the backwaters. Uncle and aunty are always available. I had awesome home cooked meals. Uncle arranged for canoe ride and other activities. There are also cycles available. There is a nearby ayurvedic massage place. Wifi is good. Hospitality is top notch. I would definitely come here and this time for a week. This place is perfect for people who want to unwind in nature.
