Our room is equipped with a large outdoor balcony. Although my friend’s room does not have a balcony, it is equipped with a living room, which is much more comfortable than ordinary standard rooms. The front desk of the hotel is very enthusiastic and helped us make an appointment for a driver to go to the national park. The airport pick-up service is also very good. The breakfast buffet is very rich. For dinner, I ordered grilled pork chops. It was delicious, and the tip is included in the meal price. The fly in the ointment is that the driver asked us for 60 dollars after booking the car from the hotel to the airport on the return trip, but the front desk told us that it was only 35 dollars.

Let me tell you , Serena has lost its flair! The place is so unappealing , shower that doesn’t work, services that are poor and unfortunately the staff are kind but don’t know anything ! The rooms have a sewer smell that they cannot do anything about. The facility is run down. I think it’s great for conferences but to enjoy the hotel as a traveler you will be wasting your money. It’s highly priced with nothing to show for it :( The staff at the spa is rude 😭 ah what a nightmare! We had to check out early and go to another hotel! Wi-fi doesn’t work.

The cleanliness and service at this hotel are truly exceptional. I felt both at home and treated with the utmost care, just like family! The spacious room provided comfort beyond expectation, and every request was met with prompt and high-quality service. The hotel menu offers a wide selection of fresh, delicious meals at an impressively affordable rate for a five-star establishment. Having stayed at Serena with my family on three previous visits to Rwanda, my latest experience reaffirmed my choice. Without a doubt, I will be returning.

Definitely more business than cultural. Still very comfortable, very quiet a/c, and rooms with decks out to a beautiful central pool. The breakfast buffet has everything!! The staff were very helpful and efficient. Make sure to put out a Do Not Disturb as housekeeping likes to get an early start.

Very Bad Front Office Staff
This hotel is a notable landmark in Kigali and Rwanda. I was really looking forward to staying here and paid around $250 for one night. I arrived around 15:00, which is well after the check-in time, and ended up waiting over 30 minutes for my room card. The Front Office staff was quite slow and kept asking when I had made my reservation.
During the wait, nothing was offered—not even a glass of water. Finally, after 30 minutes, I got my room card, only to find the room was dirty and not the one I had booked. Frustrated, I went back down with the porter, Steven, who was the only friendly face I encountered, and he helped me get a bigger room.
The way the situation was handled was not very professional. We had dinner at the hotel’s buffet, which was decent, but I expected at least a complimentary or discounted meal as an apology for the inconvenience.
The pool area is beautiful, but the rooms are in need of some maintenance. I regret that my stay was unpleasant, and I hope the hotel can address these issues and provide better training for the Front Office staff.
