This is a historic building that dates back to 1548 and has gone through 11 owners. Today it is a spa hotel The hotel sits on a large piece of land, with herds of cattle and sheep in front of the door. The restaurant on the other side has a great view of the lake and a large meadow. Rabbits and squirrels often jump around in the meadow and forest. You can reach the lake through a path, or you can hike in the forest. From the elevator, you can feel that the hotel has a sense of age. The spa has a constant-temperature swimming pool, a cold pool, a hot pool, and an outdoor hot pool, facing a large area of grass and woods, which is really pleasant. The only thing to note is: if you check out at 11 o'clock, you must go to the spa before checking out. After 11 o'clock, there will be an additional charge of 20 pounds per person.

Stunning location and all round wonderful hotel. The spa was a perfect escape and the treatments were superb and exactly as described in the brochure. We loved our room and the food was top notch. What impressed us the most though was the service we received from the team at Armathwaite Hall, from the manager who originally sorted out our booking to ensure our requests were accommodated (sorry we didn’t get your name) but also to Alwin, Leah and Sara for their friendly, professional and welcoming service. We look forward to coming back, thank you!

We had a lovely stay, having stayed 20 years ago this was a return trip often talked about. I paid in ADVANCE for dinner, bed and breakfast. Dinner was wonderful, service was great, although no atmosphere in the lake view restaurant; Friday evening and only 4 tables occupied which was disappointing. Breakfast was ok, not a patch on the restaurant food, everything deep fried and over cooked. Our room (168) was cold, and looking back on reviews now I see this room is a recurring problem, as the hotel was nowhere near full why use a room with issues? The reason for the poor review : on checking out I was presented with a bill for £525 for 1 nights stay, I had already paid in advance. I queried with the receptionist who confirmed to me that I hadn’t paid. She got a colleague who again proceeded to tell me I hadn’t paid. I evidenced with an email sent direct from the hotel thanking me for my payment, I then also contacted my bank so that they could confirm to the receptionist I had paid. I was told again that no payment could be found and I hadn’t paid. VERY EMBARRASING, duty manager arrived to tell me again that they couldn’t find the funds. Not my problem. My bank had confirmed it and I had an email from the hotel. I refused to pay again, settled the extras and left utterly embarrassed. I was assured I would receive an escalation email from the duty manager, nothing received. Simon Steele, some communications would be appreciated, poor customer care, highly embarrassing and we certainly won’t return again.

"Simon Steele and his reception team truly made our weekend special. From the moment we arrived, their welcoming attitude set the tone for a fantastic stay. We loved Simon's suggestion to try 'The Grill' – the renovation is stunning, and the food was delicious! The main dining room was equally impressive. We're already looking forward to our next visit. Thank you, Simon, and your wonderful team, for a memorable experience." Will see you again - soon.

Me and my partner have just stayed at The Armathwaite hotel and spa and it was an unforgettably romantic weekend break. The hotel and spa was amazing, with incredible atmosphere, especially the cosy open log fires in the evenings. The food deserves a review of its own and was as much of an experience as the hotel and spa itself. The staff have been amazing and couldn’t do enough to ensure we had a perfect stay, including going above and beyond to cater to our individual requests. Highly recommend staying here and we will certainly be visiting again!

We stayed as a couple for 2 nights in a Lake View Suite. The room and food were 5/5, scored down based on the spa and little details we personally felt were missing. Room - the Lake View suite was stunning, one of our favourite hotel rooms we have stayed in, decorated beautifully and stunning views. Food - we ate in the Lake View Restaurant the first night, really fantastic food some of the best we’ve had in a while. The restaurant was very quiet when we were in there (8pm on a Friday). We then ate in The Grill on the second night which had a bit more of an atmosphere. Breakfast also had good options. Spa - it’s great that you can use this at any time during your stay, however it also means the spa is really busy. It was okay on our first day (Friday) but by Saturday it was packed - no towels left, hard to get a bed if you want to relax / read a book and the outdoor hot tub is packed (and not actually that hot!) I had a full body massage which was very good. Details - Before our arrival we were contacted and asked multiple questions including if we were celebrating an occasion - we were, my birthday! I found it really strange that hotel we’d paid £900 to stay for 2 nights didn’t put so much as a happy birthday card in the room! Why bother asking what we are visiting you for then not acknowledging the occasion - very odd for a premium hotel. Additionally, given the location of the hotel and that most people travel to get there I think it would be beneficial to add an EV charger, other hotels we’ve stayed at in the Lakes have this now and it is a huge help when you’ve far to travel home. Overall a really enjoyable stay, a few details that need some attention to maintain a premium experience.

The food deserves a review all of its own! Incredible stay, amazed this isn’t a 5* hotel. The staff were also incredible and couldn’t do enough to make the whole experience perfect.

So we visited as a couple for my 60th Got lovely suite upgrade Staff fabulous at check in Views and grounds stunning Spa area is immaculate Food was fantastic and again staff utterly amazing Was absolutely perfect UNTIL !!! On day 3 my wife pops back from the spa to see a man in the doorway of our room who says I THINK THE LADY WHOS ROOM IT IS , IS BACK On going into our room here's a member of staff showing 5 people around our room where our personal items are sat on tables and clothes on chairs Wife queries what's going on and lady from hotel says , I did knock and say housekeeping !!! Later when I go to complain she says she checked and system showed room empty , so why knock and say housekeeping ??? Hmmmm Another half hour later she says she read the system wrong Yeah yeah course you did !! And their compensation for breach of trust and probable illegal entry to our room ? Free afternoon tea , yep that covers having your 60th birthday treat that cost £1500 spoilt !! 4 attempts to speak to general manager after that He's busy , he's on the phone , he's gone home !!!!! Had this been a premier inn they'd give a full refund but not a chance here Avoid !! There's far more trustworthy places than this in the Lakes 😡😡😡
