This is a historic building that dates back to 1548 and has gone through 11 owners. Today it is a spa hotel The hotel sits on a large piece of land, with herds of cattle and sheep in front of the door. The restaurant on the other side has a great view of the lake and a large meadow. Rabbits and squirrels often jump around in the meadow and forest. You can reach the lake through a path, or you can hike in the forest. From the elevator, you can feel that the hotel has a sense of age. The spa has a constant-temperature swimming pool, a cold pool, a hot pool, and an outdoor hot pool, facing a large area of grass and woods, which is really pleasant. The only thing to note is: if you check out at 11 o'clock, you must go to the spa before checking out. After 11 o'clock, there will be an additional charge of 20 pounds per person.

It was so nice to return to Armathwaite Hall for a birthday celebration. We stayed in one of the garden suites with a view of lake Bassenthwaite. The hotel has recently refurbished the brasserie, now called The Grill and is a great new edition that blends perfectly with the rest of this beautiful hotel. Our evening meal was in The lake view restaurant and the food was outstanding, we then ended the evening with a cocktail in the art deco bar. The staff are always friendly yet professional and are what makes this hotel stand out above all others. A special Thank you to Liam for such good service.

Wonderful hotel. Staff were not overly enthusiastic in completing basic requests however everything else about the hotel made up for this. Amazing grounds. Relaxing. Took a young person swimming time was not great only two hours out of a whole day for children. Pool excellent. Food very tasty.

Nice hotel but could be anywhere!!! The grill (new) restaurant was amazing but silly£££ delish food tho… the lake views while having a chill time n cocktail/cuppa was a treat… shame no real non alcoholic alternatives… lots out there… I just ended up drinking water, really wanted a treat and a nozecco in the spa hot tub at £7? & a crappy small glass !!! Really!!! The spa was mediocre !!! Cold hot tub inside and out!!! The sauna was cold and a draft, we stayed 3 nights and noticed things hadn’t been cleaned from the first day we had arrived.need a total refurb.. last time we stayed was amazing and we even enjoyed the in house exercise classes and really friendly staff , didn’t bother this time with spa treatments seemed expensive for what we get locally /home

We stayed at Armathwaite last year and we had an exceptional stay. Naturally we returned this year and despite a few issues such as the tv not working or the fire in our suite were happy and pleased with our choice to return with no just reason to make a fuss. However we fatally decided to eat in the Lake View restaurant on this visit. It was the worst dining experience I have ever endured. An incredibly rude waiter stormed around a silent and one would say stifling room. On ordering he brought the wrong wine, when I stated it was the wrong colour red not white he stormed off and returned without any conversation. Already embarrassed by his rudeness I declined trying the overly priced bottle of wine. His response ‘well aslong as it doesn’t taste like wet cardboard’. I was mortified. This was topped off by our food arriving cold after waiting over an hour. We were then charged for the bottle of Malbec which we did not order or indeed drink. We were further belittled as they cross checked our statement with the wine list on check out. Armathwaite did not address any of our concerns on check out or in a follow up email. Nor did they try in anyway to put right the car crash of an evening in what should have been a special stay. We have yet to have a response to our concerns. If you want to risk staying somewhere where there is no true customer care then this is the place for you.

Myself and a friend decided to go for a 4 hour spa( option was 10am-2pm or 2pm-6pm) , to treat ourselves & after to use a voucher I had received for an afternoon tea as a gift. Arrival , staff were very pleasant, shown to the changing area, then explained what would happen for our treatments rebooked and then shown around the spa facilities. We had lockers , robes , slippers and towels all included. We explored the pools, ice bath, salt room, sauna, steam room & outdoor jacuzzi before our treatment. We had 85mins treatment time, which was a full body massage, Facial & Indian head massage. I had a staff member called Joanne & she was very good & tentative. We went back to the spa area after our treatment. We will be back for sure. Only one thing we were slightly disappointed with was , my friend rang to ask for any deals which were currently running on the 28th January for us to book , we said we could fit in any time or day W/C 24th February until 2nd March & we got our treatment & 4hour spa that should of been £202 , but we got it got £165, so we thought that was a good deal; The disappointment was talking to others in the spa , they paid £139 for 4 spa access, 55 min treatment, lunch in the Grill , same time option as us, but we weren’t offered this when we asked about deals & this offer was running 6th January -31st March. Push on deals or check website and request deals. None of the above would prevent us from returning, just be aware you are getting the best deals. Afternoon tea was lovely, nice calm area of the hotel , staff were very helpful & friendly.

A lovely hotel but it has a flaw. This hotel is excellent in many ways but not perfect. The staff are efficient, friendly and helpful. The location is also superb. However it had one element that lets it down - the Lakeview Restaurant. The food is good quality and well presented but desperately overpriced. We appreciate fine dining and understand that you pay for quality but this misses the mark by a broad margin. £6 for a portion of carrot or peas is hard to justify particularly when the main courses are not even fine dining portions. My starter of smoked mackerel comprised three pieces all smaller than my little finger and a lot of rocket and a couple of dots of horseradish. £12! Sorry not good. The Grill located at the other side of the hotel is far better value for money and quality of food.
