This hotel is a rip-off. Five-star prices, three-star service, and the house smells terrible. It's far from the core of the lake district, making it incredibly inconvenient to get around unless you have a car. Don't book this, don't risk it. Also, I recommend that you note on Ctrip that this isn't a castle hotel. The marketing is misleading!

We only stopped one night but it seemed fine, service was pleasant and friendly facilities were good.
It looked tired in some areas but something that big can't be shiny new everyday.
The room was generally clean and dust free but the fridge (which wasn't even plugged in) was dirty inside and there was an empty biscuit packet under the couch.

This is the first time we've stopped here since it was The Best Western Hotel. Much of the hotel had a makeover last Winter. Our room was wonderful and had a king-size bed and had been fully refurbished. The new steam room was a fantastic addition to the swimming pool, jacuzzi and hot tub. Signage is still needed. The swimsuit dryer was very useful. The repositioned restaurant was much lighter than the old one and the new conservatory room and lounge were very good. What it was short of in the conservatory was a hot drinks machine. The bar is too far away. The impressive Best Western entrance at the rear is scheduled for renovation this Winter, along with the Conference room. Staff are hard-working and very friendly and helpful. It's at a crossroads and there are plenty of buses available, so you don't need to spend hours in Keswick hunting for a parking space. The only downside is the evening menu. The word dire, springs to mind. They only need to look at the competition to see where they have gone wrong. Having said all that I'm looking forward to my next visit there

I was a single on a coach trip with Shearings. The castle Inn is still being renovated for the better. Fairly large. En-suite hot showers were good. Long corridors and no signage confusing. No lift. However it is understaffed and the process for just getting breakfast changed everyday. The staff tried hard worked hard but were undervalued and seemed as confused as we were. Food quality was variable. On one day soup was cold for some. Eggs might or might not be fully cooked. No olive oil available from the kitchen to dress a salad…potential not a 4 star yet

Cosy hotel with lovely staff. The pool area is amazing with a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. Changing rooms are mix with changing cubicles but all the hotel is very clean. The breakfast is a set menu and at peak times you could be waiting before they come and take your order, choices are limited but good quality.

We stayed at the Castle Inn for 4 nights. The rooms had just be updated. We had a shower and a bath in our twin room and the beds where extremely comfortable. The food was a bit hit and miss. Some meals where very nice and some were not. The staff were all very polite and very helpful. I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

Absolute sh*t show .. dated hotel, rude staff, men in the restaurant are even worse, don't ask how your food was or have any basic waiting skills like saying please or thank you. Just shocking, the room wasn't as expected for the money..we got a £2 frozen pizza for £30. Will never come back

Only stopped to eat here. Husbands food very good, he had a panini, I went for the ploughman’s, unfortunately although good it was just ham,cheese and pickle sandwiches, crisps and a bit of salad. According to the menu it should have come with homemade bread, apple,celery,two types of cheese, ham and various pickles. We were still charged for a ploughman’s at £14. Don’t get caught out.
