The environment and sanitation are very good. The only problem is that the old house has no elevator. However, the service is very good and the breakfast is also good. You need to book a seat and come down on time to eat.

Arrived expecting a refurbished hotel, pool, and spa. Pool and spa closed . Extensive refurbishment continues. Had to step over work materials to get to our room. Workmen apologetic. Next day gapping hole in hall way outside our room. Previous owner replies on here, stating that work men finish at 6 pm. At 6.15, I asked if the hole would be boarded up as it was pouring with rain and coming in. Staff member said she would check it and ask workmen if they would cover. I said oh but its after 6." I thought they finished then. Staff member said no they work later than that.she did say she would move us if we found it noisey. We shouldn't have been placed in that room and the sites advertising this hotel.should.make it clear the pool and spa are not open and that extensive work is being undertaken. Next day arrived back to have the workmen painting the window to our room. No privacy and had to listen to workmen banter. Appreciate work need to be undertaken but communication would have made us feel a little valued.

On arrival we were greeted by the receptionist and the hotel Manager, who apologised for the construction work which should, we were told, have been finished for Easter. But still ongoing. Having checked the hotel out on their web and other sites, we were aware of the upheaval. The hotel has always had very good reviews in the past, so give it a go. Our room was on the side of the hotel, which was clean with the usual complimentary tea, coffee, etc. Comfortable bed and pillows. There was no lift, but if we required someone would bring our luggage. The paintwork on the stairs and carpet had seen better days, but as the Hotel was under refurbishment and we were only walking up and down the stairs it was of little consequence. I look forward to visiting the Hotel again as the hospitality of the Hotel staff, food, particularly breakfast certainly made up for the upheaval.

Construction work at the hotel whilst open. The work was ongoing until 7.30 at night. The hotel did not advise before and were unwilling assist or apologise.

Lift not working and having work done, carpet not down. Someone went to walk past me and I. Step back and my foot went in the floor were lift was on 1st floor. No hand soap half toilet roll. Shower dirty, net curtains were dirty, price asking definitely not worth it. My friend booked this, the whole place needs doing up and better cleaners,

Booked into hotel, made our way to our room using the stairs as the elevator was being taken out by builders. On entering the room we were let down as we had booked a room with walkin shower which was verified when we rang the hotel direct prior to our visit as my wife has back problems. Contacted the staff member on reception and was asked which staff member verified the walkin shower, well I do not ask for names. were then told they were fully booked, later we were shown a smaller room with walkin shower with scaffolding directly across window where builders were working with no view at all which was not pleasant and I would not pass for a booked superior room so declined this very unsuitable offer. There were no drawers in the room nor a phone and the decor around the window area was patched paintwork. Not what you exoect from a 4 star hotel. The first night in the restaurant 3 of us ordered the sirloin steak and were not impressed with quality of cut and was very chewy. For our next 3 nights we ate at Romneys pub 4 minutes away and the sirloins were so much better. Also for 2 of the evenings in the bar/reception area they had ran out of red wine, Was also approached by builder to move car or have it covered in building dust. And finally on last day the manager said to my wife she could use the walkin shower in another room, not very I professional. Would not recommed for the price we paid.

Would help if the owners of this hotel showed an intrest in it and kept it for what its ment be, a lovley family hotel . The place looks very unloved . There is a lot of building going on but the main hotel is left to fall into a bad state . There is no swimming pool or other facilities as they are building more rooms on top . You get the feeling that the owners are desroying what was a very lovley hotel .
