Quite literally a perfect experience. So quiet and peaceful. Lovely rooms. Exactly what we needed. Didn't really want to leave. The apartment was spacious and cozy at the same time. Loved the full kitchen and lots of really comfy, sitting and lying spaces. The light was amazing and so was the flow of air through the whole space. We also loved the care with which all of the staff attended to us, and to the history and culture of the North Shore. Special shout out to Cawake, Jeanne, Margaret, Lehua, and Auntie Lei for taking such good care of us. Also, the resort's shuttle drivers, Ronni, Doug, and Keith were efficient, chill, full of great vibes and local info. Beautiful beach, along with shuttles to other nearby beaches for great snorkeling -- our favorite was the spectacular Tunnels Beach -- and nice to have a pool and Jacuzzi too! Just a great, cozy, recharging time in a wonderfully natural and non-fussy little haven.

One of the best places in Kauai is Hanalei Colony Resort. The resort has beach front access that leads all the way to famous Tunnels Breach. Shuttle service is also provided. The service is excellent. Chawake and the rest of the team are amazing. We did the in room private chef with Chef JP. Excellent experience. What I really enjoyed from this property is the solitude. Super quiet and peaceful. Thank you so much for making it a 5 Star Experience!

We inadvertently left a piece of clothing at Hanalei Colony and on the way to the airport (just an hour after checking out), told them exactly where it was, and they replied that they would look to retrieve the item and for the cost of shipping, would mail it to us within a few weeks. They never did send it or even contact us. Calling them a second time, we were connected to the housekeeping manager who repeatedly said that leaving anything behind is entirely the traveller's responsibility. Throwing out a nice personal item (either initially or later if it landed in the laundry), as was the case here, shows neither the courtesy nor the care we expect from resorts.

The absolutely beautiful location and low key atmosphere of HCR is only surpassed by the friendly staff. Chawake and her team at the front desk were most accommodating and kind, as was Doug who shuttled us around and provided great local knowledge. Love to return!

This resort is a true gem at the end of the road on the North Shore. There is something magical about being able to soak up the peace and solitude of the ocean while having everything you need for a comfortable stay. We stayed three nights in B2, and it was just dreamy…ocean views, cooling breezes and a laid back vibe. The resort and its staff goes above and beyond to take care of its staff, with comfortable bedding/furnishings, a beautiful pool house and friendly service. We had our two children with us and felt very welcomed, but I would love to return for a trip with my husband to really embrace the romance and peace of this special place. One of my favorite moments each day of our stay was sitting on the lanai after dark in one of the resort’s comfy robes, looking at the stars and enjoying the sound of the crashing waves. The ocean is a little rough and wild right by the resort, but the beach is very walkable, beautiful and a fun adventure for kids or couples. We loved the on-site coffee shop/art gallery, and would love to return to try the on-site restaurant and day spa. We visited during July and had a 15-20 minute drive to Hanalei depending on traffic. The resort has a shuttle which will drive you into town, as well as to other popular beach spots where parking can get tricky. The HCR is truly spectacular, and will make your visit to the North Shore unforgettable.

This gorgeous beach-side resort has everything you need for an outstanding vacation. We stayed for eight days in early June (2024), and the weather was great. We would absolutely come back next summer. It’s not a “resort” in the sense of a traditional hotel (like in nearby Princeville). We rented this sport via AirBNB (through Kauai Kahuna). And you really will not get the day-to-day house-cleaning that some visitors would expect, but those are not necessary. Reading through some of the reviews on Trip Advisor, it appears some guests were very disappointed with some of the “housekeeping” accommodations, but we loved not having to worry about any hotel employees traversing into our space. It’s essentially a vacation rental, not a “hotel” or true resort. These are built like modest condo units (in two-story buildings) and they’re right on the water, where you are just west of Hanalei Bay, an ideal spot if you want to get away from crowds. You can very easily navigate along the island at your own pace. This resort had a shuttle, only available to those renting through the resort (not through the AirBNB), but we rented a car from the Lihue Airport. This place is very easy to walk to various beaches (15 min. walk to Tunnels Beach, and a 10-minute drive to Hanalei Bay). Renting a car was a very wise decision on our part. The local beach setting here is just fantastic. Please note, this beach just outside of the resort isn’t terribly swimmable. But the very-nearby-beaches are quite gorgeous and swimmable. About the resort's accommodations – great pool & jacuzzi, BBQ station, on-site coffee shop & art gallery and a day spa. There is one restaurant directly on site, named the Opakapaka Grill & Bar (but better dining options are in Hanalei Bay). Parking at this resort was easy. They do have an office with business hours, and they were very friendly/helpful. There are employees on-site who can assist with regular items you'd need, but most guests are fairly self-sufficient. Our one-bedroom upstairs unit had a nice balcony with an ocean view, a furnished kitchen, one room with a good-sized closet and a desk, and another living room with a small TV and a sofa (and four-seat dining room table). Good tip – stock up on food at the Princeville Foodland (grocery store). It’s a 15-minute drive, and Foodland has everything you’d see in a market on the mainland U.S. We brought in a bunch of groceries (fridge/freezer was great) and cooked our breakfasts and lunches there. Hanalei Bay has some really good dinner options if you want to go out. The bathroom was clean. The resort provides towels (both for bathroom and to take to the beach), as you would see in any traditional hotel. The bed was very comfortable. This unit does not have air conditioning, but really, it’s not needed. They have windows that help with air-flow and three ceiling fans through the unit (easy to operate, helps to cool down rooms if temps get up into the 80s). This was a beautiful place to st

Haena is a special place for us. Our room was steps from the beach with spectacular views of the Bay and Princeville across the Bay. The best part of the trip was getting to know the local staff. Special shout-out to Tida, Lei Hua, Erlette and Chawaki and also Jeff and Greg at the Opakapaka Grill. They made us feel at home. Mahalo to all. Todd and Kathleen.

Hanalei Colony Resort is a true gem! Amazing staff, stunning location, excellent accommodations. We slept to the sounds of the ocean and rain north of Hanalei. It was nice to be a little bit away from the business of Hanalei and Princeville, yet surrounded by the lush beauty of northern Kauai. Hanalei's restaurants and shops are only a 15 minute drive south of the resort. We could see the lights of Hanalei Bay from our lanai each night. Stunning sunrises! Our unit had everything we could ask for, including a gorgeous view of the ocean from our lanai and main living area. Trade winds and ceiling fans kept the unit comfortable. Very pretty and quiet pool. Staff was gracious and welcoming, including a gift for my birthday and our 10th anniversary. Look forward to coming back soon. This was truly the most relaxing vacation we have ever experienced.

Lovely, quiet, and clean. We had recommendations to stay in Princeville or town of Hanalei but so very happy we stumbled across HCR. We loved being away from the crowds and it was easy to drive into town or take the HCR shuttle. The peace and quiet, beautiful sunrises, perfectly maintained grounds to do yoga, and a relaxing pool made for a perfect stay. The suites are modest but very clean and spacious. The road to HCR is winding with no shoulder so the only thing I have up was a morning run but traded that in for a beach walk to Tunnels Beach. The staff was very warm and helpful. I would definitely come back.
