Pros Great location for exploring Themal and provided you are not too high up, you shouldn't hear any road noise as it's set back. I was on the 4th floor and could hear the incessant beeping motorbikes but had moved from the first floor where i heard none (but was directly above the kitchen so could hear banging and chairs scraping from around 6am). 2nd floor is probably a good choice Staff were all excellent Room cleaned daily with 2 large bottles of water provided each day Breakfast was ok - decent variety of fruit, local and western with custom eggs. Coffee was instant though. Air con has heat facility No deposit required on check-in Toiletries provided Cons Some noise depending on your room location - dont stay in 107 or room directly above the kitchen/restaurant No safe for passport, cash etc in room Breakfast area isn't particularly clean i.e. dirty table cloths/mats Poor standard of fixtures/fittings e.g. gaps in windows and doors, curtains dont quite close right, dirty shower curtain, the rooms have seen better days but for the price its still good value. No coffee or milk in room (or 3-in one) No phone charging point near the bed Bathroom mat was old and dirty, no floor towel Tips: take extra passport photo if you intend to get a sim card at the airport, unlimited data one with nepal telecom cost me $10 - signal was mostly ok. Get your currency before you arrive or take enough to convert there, the atm machines are expensive Taxi from airport to Themal should be around 350 rupees working on 50 rupees per km plys 30 rupees start charge. You will be hounded relentlessly by people from the second you leave the plane for tour services etc. It may seem impolite but dont make eye contact, say no thank you and keep walking, otherwise you will spend your entire trip speaking to them. Right now its cold at night, pack accordingly. Be prepared to pay for everything, every temple, every place of historical interest - foreigners are charged around 1000-2000 rupees each time. E.g. all the Durbar squares, main stupas and temples. Don't assume that because Nepal is a developing country it is cheap. It isn't. In fact i found it comparable to some developed countries and not cheaper than say Thailand. A meal would cost me around 1000 rupees. In a smaller more local place you may pay 500. Don't take your new trainers, it's a very dirty, dusty city but exactly what you would expect if you've ever seen it on TV - it's all part of the experience. For exploring all of the main parts of Kathmandu, id say 5 days is a good amount of time. I recommend the everest helicopter tour but on that note i will say that tours are very expensive here, more expensive than even Hong Kong, Thailand, etc!! I ended up walking to the main temples, Chandragiri, Bakhtapur for the more local experience.

This property has a lot of history and heritage. Morden yet well kept Nepali tradition. Staff was amazing, customer service was spot on. Rooms where very clean and comfortable. No where in downtown Kathmandu you will find massive gardens to relax. The property is well far from the Main Street so less road noise and horn. Breakfast selections was very good.

The store's service is good, I took him to see the doctor when I was not feeling well, and I had a good breakfast every day. When I was taken to the airport on the last morning, I brought a breakfast with my favorite boiled eggs!

The service attitude is very good. I can speak a little Chinese. The breakfast is good. You can also add some egg rolls. The taste is good. The room is clean and very quiet. It is very close to the airport.

Relatively standard five-star hotel, no special features, much worse than Dwarika, the same price will be much lower; stayed here for two nights, moved to Dwarika for one night, the difference is not the same Small.

King bed and balcony with lovely view of the city. The spa below is awesome at a good price of NPR1500 for 60min ayurvedic massage. There’s many other massages like swedish, deep tissue etc. Friendly staff service, airport pickup at a fee of NPR1300 or usd12. Only down side is the room is dark and the shower and shampoo is just simple soap so don’t expect spa smell types haha. 10min walk to Thamel centre with a junction thats hard to cross so follow the locals to cross will be the safest.

The hotel facilities are relatively complete, with a separate large garden, gym, swimming pool, small shops selling things, and good Chinese restaurants to choose from. It is indeed a good choice if you go to Kathmandu for the first time. The location is not in the tourist area, but it is more convenient for the hotel to call a car.

The Kathmandu Guest House is one of the oldest in the Thamel area, with several additions having been added to the first original building. I first stayed at the KGH quite a few years ago, before it was upgraded, with new buildings, a lovely large garden area, a museum, and several shops including an art house; significantly higher prices reflected the upgrade. It is now part of the KGH Group of hotels. It is centrally located in Thamel and offers the usual desk services, such as tour booking. Free airport pickup on arrival is available for international flights, with 48 hr pre-notification. There are 4 basic room prices (in addition to suites and a family room), for the different annexes - Standard, Garden Facing, Deluxe and Superior, with and without breakfast option. The very good breakfast is $15 if ordered separately, and about half that if included in the room price. On this trip, I stayed at different times in the Standard and the Garden Facing rooms. My friend had stayed in the Deluxe room. The beds and pillows are very comfortable in all the rooms. A hot water pot, with coffee/tea, is in each room. The best value is the Garden Facing room. The Deluxe is almost double the price, and from what I saw, primarily has a bigger garden window and a glass enclosure for the shower. The Superior room, located in the newest annex, is even more costly. My Garden Facing room had a good view, but the toilet/shower had a tub with no shower door or even a curtain, so water splashed from the tub over the floor when showering. It really should be upgraded with a shower enclosure or curtain. The Standard room that I stayed in for one night was almost the same price as the Garden Facing room; however, it is unattractive, with no view from the window, no closet, with a desk but not even a small suitcase table, and with the smallest bathroom of any guesthouse I have stayed in; the shower head is above the sink and toilet (see photo), which floods the floor. It was a mistake to book it. Be careful about the booking, since the Standard room is not always distinguished from the Garden Facing room. Also, since our return flight was later in the evening, we asked about late checkout. The only option was paying 50% of the room charge additional, to stay from 12 to 6 PM. And if your breakfast was included in the original booking, the 50% was applied also to that, even though no more food was offered! Somewhat of a unfriendly ripoff. I enjoyed my stay very much, but my lower rating was primarily because of the high price for the mediocre quality of the Standard room, as well as the excessive late checkout fee.

During my 10 days of stay I truly loved the hotel, the staff from reception to house keeping were amazing and above all Kishor from reception and Saroj, how can only forget hom, what great person. I'm very thankful to him for the support he gave me in all my needs, from shopping, site seeing and much much more, I sincerely wish to thank Saroj , your truly a gentleman and I surely will never forgot you.
