Americas Best Value Inn Kadoka

Just needed a place to stay on our way west to Mount Rushmore. The hotel and receptionist were nice, easy parking, and room was in good shape. Overall did what we needed. Complimentary breakfast was better than expected in the morning. Waffle maker, cereals, juices, donuts, and some bagels/toasts to choose from were more than enough.

On **********, there were not many options for hotels close to the east entrance of the Badlands. Since we wanted to be in the Badlands at sunrise, we wanted to get as close as possible. At this exit, we did see a sign for another hotel "6 blocks away", but as we drove that direction, we seemed to be passing through a very depressed area. Based on reviews and a drive by which showed this hotel was right off the exit next to two gas stations, we picked this hotel. While checking in, we asked about places to eat nearby. We were told there were only 2 places in town - a Subway and the Sunset Grill - both in the same building about 100 yards away. We asked about any other places in the nearby area, and she said that was it for miles around. We avoided the Subway, but the food at Sunset Grill was really good. The hotel had a rundown feel to it. The door to our room had no security chain, so we propped a chair against it to act as a noisemaker if anyone tried to get in. It wasn't that we felt terribly unsafe, but we do typically take precautions with the double locks offered at most hotels. We do feel we made the best choice available at this exit, and we were able to get into the Badlands very early the next morning. So, it met our requirements.

This experience was a disappointment. I booked the room online and chose the hotel because it is pet friendly. Nowhere in the online add did it say they would charge extra. I paid for the room upfront and was informed when I checked in that I would have to pay $20 per pet. Since I had not yet been charged extra per pet on our cross country road trip. I was surprised, but no huge deal. Then, when we got to the room I discovered that we did not get the king room we ordered. The lady at the front desk told me that none of their “pet rooms” had king sized beds, just queen. This wouldn’t have been too bad except that the beds were NOT queen sized. We have a queen bed at home and these beds were significantly narrower. They were obviously full beds, which do not really sleep two comfortably. Then, when I went to make sure the windows were locked I discovered that not only were there no locks on the windows, but one window didn’t even latch, so anyone could have opened it from outside! I told the front desk and she told me that they “could have” given us a second floor room but the pet rooms are all on the first floor. This room was a disappointment and not worth the $100 per night we ended up paying. I am never staying at an “America’s Best Inn” again

I here in 10/22/22 To start Good price, decents rooms, good service , rooms very clean, i would say, for the price is good enough , i would comeback again, i recomend this hotel The only problem is trip advisor, they neen many letters to submit the coment

We almost turned around when we got to this hotel as the outward appearance isn't great. Staff were helpful and room was fine for a one night stay. If you're heading East out of the national park this is your best bet.

Surprising experience. When we pulled up to check in we almost bailed and looked for another place to stay. There isn't a welcome sign and we weren't sure where the front door was. There were people sitting outside, just "hanging out". When we got out of vehicle, one lady went inside to check us in. She was very friendly. It isn't a modern hotel but it was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was good but someone could have been managing it better as they ran out of alot of things (including milk for cereal). We were quite surprised of our visit and glad we took a chance.

It’s a budget hotel. That said it was clean, quiet and comfortable, just what we needed for a one night stopover. Staff was friendly. Location is convenient to stay past wall and headed East. For a budget hotel this is a good one.

We wanted to get up early to drive the Badlands. This was the closest to the east entrance. Hotel was clean and comfortable. Next door was the Sunset Grill with good food and very pleasant helpful staff. The hotel breakfast was typical but just enough.

Everything seemed clean, except the refrigerator had hair in the icebox. Also the bed still had a old bedspread on it, which I thought was highly recommended they were removed by the health department. The washcloths and bath towels were extremely old and the wash class were more than transparent almost unusable. But overall as far as inexpensive hotels go this one was pretty nice or at least acceptable. The price before taxes was $89 a night.
