The Steadings at the Grouse & Trout

Had an excellent meal here (while on holiday) to celebrate our children's graduations. The food was imaginative, well presented, delicious and reasonably priced - especially the trout! The service was excellent and the owners were really friendly. The views from the restaurant were fabulous, with plenty of wildlife to watch too - when did you last get to watch mountain hare whilst eating lunch! A lovely place - highly recommended!

Ended up not staying at this hotel as was told there was an 11pm “curfew”. Booked a different hotel in city centre. Didn’t appreciate being told what time I had to be in my bed on a Saturday night. Absolutely ridiculous state of affairs for a hotel to have this condition in my opinion. Owners need to work on their hospitality skills also. Being called “chief” repeatedly was quite grating. Seemed like we were a nuisance to them when we arrived. Wasn’t made to feel welcome. Check in at 4pm and thrown out room at 10.30am next morning is a bit of a joke as well.

we arrived for an early dinner and were rudely turned away as our host forgot to call them and advise we would be coming. They advised us they were fully booked - the place was empty with no one sitting at any of the tables. We said we would take any open table to insure their reserved guests were treated fairly and the rudely told us they did not work that way we should go somewhere else.

Really nice, cosy seating area for a pre-meal drink. The ambiance is lovely and the hosts, Rob and Angie are very friendly and accommodating. They always cater (with a certain humour) for my partner who's a vegan. The chef seems to welcome the challenge, especially his vegan desserts. We let them know ahead now, when we book So chef can prepare something ahead. The food is delicious. The surroundings are beautiful. We haven't stayed overnight yet so can't comment on the accommodation but I'm sure it's excellent also! We love the place.......
