A truly great experience!! Room was comfortable and housekeeping excellent. Well placed with a view of the Marina. The highlight of each morning of my 5 night stay was the Breakfast. Fantastic choice and everything well cooked and presented. The staff, particularly the trainees, were always friendly and obliging. I couldn't fault anything about the Breakfast at all. The situation of the Hotel was ideal for me but might not suit everyone as it was sited out of the Town. A beautiful beach was adjacent to the Hotel and even out of season there were a variety of Restaurants nearby. All staff, the Receptionists, Restaurant staff and Housekeeping were outstanding, always greeted me with a smile and very helpful.

We visited Portugal for our first time in the middle of October. The weather was a balmy 25° pretty much all week ☀️ we were incredibly pleased with our apartment which was very spacious, had a lovely big balcony and was cleaned every day by very smiley housekeepers. The hotel reception staff were warm and friendly and answered any questions we had helpfully and with a pleasing friendliness. The bar staff were very nice too and whipped up a mean pina colada to sip by the outside pool. The facilities (outdoor, indoor pool, sauna, toilets etc) were all immaculate and we very much enjoyed lounging around the outside pool most afternoons. The prices In the bar were very fair, €4 a beer, €6 cocktails and €5/6 for a cheese toastie with fries (which was plenty!!) The local shop was a 5min walk away which had a little of everything and the beach was an easy 10min away. We went into Praia do Rocha most nights and it was around a 20min walk and was around €5 in an Uber back to the hotel late at night. Lagos is around €25 in a taxi/Uber and well worth a day out. Alvor is roughly €2 on the bus which stops just outside. A couple of things were missing from the hotel room such as a mirror in the bedroom, a chopping board in the kitchen but didn’t in anyway affect our holiday. Would liked to have had a double bed but we just pushed the 2 twin beds together (twin beds seem to be pretty standard for the Algarve from what I’ve seen) Would highly highly recommend this apartment/hotel for anyone after a quite, relaxing área to visit. Would definitely visit again around the same time of the year as it was absolute bliss being one of only around 4/5 people around the pool each day. Couldn’t recommend highly enough as all the staff were brilliant and the accommodation perfect.

Excellent
This was our second stay at The Pelican. It has a lot going for it but a couple of minor issues. The location was great for us, a 15 minute walk to Alvor, under 10 minutes to the Pingo supermarket and 5 minutes from The Jolly (a pub we made our own and knew the owner from last year). The reception and bar staff in Pelican were excellent and very friendly. The food in the bar was good and reasonably priced. The room was the same as last year and an excellent size, a TV you can swivel round to watch in bed and an excellent little kitchen with everything we needed. Our issues were with the quality of the daily cleaning, it was poor. The floor wasn't mopped and our feet ended up filthy (which then gets transferred to the bed) or in my case had white socks that were black underneath. There was a general lack of care which was a real shame as the main areas of the hotel were constantly cleaned. Also our bin under the sink wasn't emptied at least 3 times and we took to leaving the rubbish bag out to ensure it was taken. This year there was entertainment from 5 until 7 one evening on the terrace, this was well received and maybe the management should do more of this in future. The hotel WiFi was patchy at best and our phones kept being disconnected. The pool area is pretty good but could do with a bit of TLC, too often we struggled to get a lounger while others were ”reserved” by people who never returned for 2 to 3 hours. A few more loungers wouldn't go amiss or a regular check to remove towels when the loungers aren't used for long periods. We will definitely return if the standard of cleaning improves as this is an excellent hotel with bags of potential and friendly staff.

Huge improvement in the last few years. We have been coming to Penina for the last 12 years. Just post Covid, the hotel and golf courses were very run down. (Like many hotels so not unique). The recovery to great service now is impressive. The hotel has not been rebuilt or even redecorated but is much ‘fresher’ and a pleasant place to spend your holiday. The Championship Course is much improved and probably only one more season from being back to great condition. The Resort Course is much improved over this year. Four temporary greens whilst the original greens are relaid. Fairways quite good but tee boxes need attention. Having said that, the price to play has been reduced to compensate and the golf staff made sure you understood that the course is having work before you sign up. The par-3 course no longer exists and there seems no sign that it’s coming back. A web search shows the par-3 as still being advertised. The Gym is still an asset. Bit old but good enough for a rounded work out. Now the gem in the crown and the most improved area is in staff attitude, friendliness and helpfulness. Front desk is very welcoming and efficient. Dolores was ever present and helpful. Bar and Henry Cotton staff are likewise, friendly and efficient. Breakfast is great, choice and quality of food has improved from adequate to very good. Someone is clearly on top of the offer and service. Staff quantity increased and all seem happy and helpful. Golf Shop and Caddy Master group are also great and a joy to interact with. Overall, my opinion…. A 5* hotel that is really a 4* hotel with 5*+ staff. Definitely on the right trajectory getting back to its best. The key to the next level of offer is to finish off the Henry Cotton golf course and get the Resort Couse back to great condition.

We chose Alvor for our first visit to Portugal and booked this hotel. The hotel is in a great location by the beach, which is what we wanted. There’s a lift to the beach but we used the stairs, a short walk down. The views from the hotel were fantastic and the communal areas of the hotel are fabulous. Breakfast was good, with a wide selection of choice. The breakfast staff are very attentive - definitely 5* when it comes to breakfast. However, the overall maintenance of the hotel isn’t 5*, the A/C doesn’t work and the rooms clearly need a bit of TLC to warrant the star rating it claims to hold. Overall our stay was great but the facilities didn’t equate to the cost. The staff do an excellent job but are let down by poor investment into the hotel.

GGuest UserThis hotel is an amazing retreat! Surprisingly you can't hear the noise from the racing track just nearby. The staff is very nice and attentive. The location is great if you want to be in a quiet part of the Algarve (30 minutes from Portimão). The breakfast is great. It has variety and the products are fresh and high quality. The hotel has an amazing outdoor swimming pool, unfortunately the it was too windy and we were not able to enjoy it. The Jacuzzi and the indoor swimming pool are great too! The room is as in the pictures, it is big and the decoration is modern. Overall, we recommend this hotel if you want to enjoy a quiet retreat in the Algarve!

GGuest UserWe stayed in the Alvor Atlantico Hotel for nearly three weeks and would recommend. We had a Studio Superior, with a Sea View. We were on the 7th floor and the view was absolutely beautiful, we could see all of the beach from the beach at the Atlantida Restaurant to the very end. It was lovely to wake up to. The hotel itself was very quiet, there's no bar, there is an indoor pool, which we didn't use and it was also very clean. The Studio was well equipped with a 2 ring cooker, fridge and plates and cutlery, we had a problem with the cooker and the kettle which was sorted out for us, no problem. We had one rainy day when we didn't fancy going into Alvor, you can book dinner (or breakfast) in the Dom Joao Hotel, which we did for the one night, it was only a 5 minute walk away. It was buffet style but was very good. It's a 20 minute walk into the harbour or centre of Alvor on the boardwalk which was a nice way to start the evening. We will definitely stay here again. The beds were comfortable, a bit hard for my personal liking, the shower was good with plenty of pressure, so all in all would recommend.
