Stayed at Lylo for 3-4 days and it’s probably the best hostel I’ve ever stayed at. You check in on a device however there is a receptionist near in case you need anything. The design is amazing as well as the communal rooms/work spaces, it’s very new and renovated at the moment so it looks really great. There’s free wifi, a communal kitchen and bathrooms on each floor. There’s also a restaurant and bar, you get a card for one free drink too! I stayed in a private room and shared bathroom, the floor was super clean and quiet. The room itself was cute and tidy, we were missing a few things such as a rubbish bin (didn’t know the rooms came with one until we saw someone else on our floor with one). I think it would’ve of been nice if the room came with a television or a safe, however the room was great for the price so can’t complain too much :) location is central and easy access to everything within the city.

Ideal location to explore Auckland. Clean, tidy and bright. Facilities and all amenities are considerately provided. Staff are so kind, helpful and hospitable. My encounter with Jamie in the front desk was a happy, serendipitous and memorable experience. He tried to help and delight me in every way possible. With my injured waist, he even helped me to carry my luggage downstairs. The feeling and vibe was extraordinarily positive. I recommend.

The bed was really comfortable. Everything was good.
Staff was vey nice and helpful.
However there was one thing that disappointed me so much, the elevator was not working. I choosed this hostel because I have a huge and heavy luggage and the hostel's detail show that there is an elevator in the hostel but when I arrived the staff told me that it's broken and under repair around 1 month already. I felt like I was scammed by the advertisement but luckily the receptionist come and help me carry my luggage. Anyway, please update this information to customer if I was informed about it in advance I might not be this disappointed.

The hostel is nice, though costly and a little decentralized. The common areas are very nice, but the fact that it has no bathrooms for both sexes on every floor is a real discomfort. Each floor has a kitchen, but they are microscopic and it is really hard to use it ....in addition in reception, except for Kase that is super efficient, others are a little made and put there, little wake and little help .... can improve!

It’s pretty much a backpacker’s hostel. Once that’s realized, expectations are adjusted accordingly. Let’s get the negatives out of the way: - must check out by 10 AM - there’s no air conditioning. There are fans, but at night, in summer, the rooms are uncomfortably warm. Everything else is positive. The location I felt was excellent. 20 minutes walk to the CBD; 30 minutes to the ferry terminal. You are right at Ponsonby, which is a main street for restaurants and coffee shops. There is an excellent supermarket one block away ( 5 minutes walk ). The lodge is very clean, and there’s a good community kitchen, where you can store your food as well as cook. I opted to pay + $20 per night extra for a private bath, but the hostel offers many bathrooms with showers. There are 2 washing machines and 1 dryer, each requiring NZD 6. The airport shuttle - Skydrive - operates from the Sky tower, a 20 minute walk. Here are the directions from the Sky Tower, which is on Hobson Street. Take Hobson for about 3 blocks, to Pitt Street. Go left on Pitt. Just one block on Pitt, on your right, you see a big, blue sign that reads “BECA”. After only one block on Pitt, with Beca Company on the right, that is Hopetoun Street. Go to the right. You will go up a bridge, with the expressway beneath you. As soon as you cross the bridge, you pass a girl’s grammar school, and Verandahs Lodge is clearly marked on the right, about the 4th building. The airport shuttle runs every 30 minutes, costs NZD 18 ( 12.50 for seniors ), and you pay driver, but only credit cards are accepted.

Stayed here for 5 nights as part of my pre-tour accommodation. This hotel has lived up to its reputation. It offers good value for money. With its central location with a stone’s throw to the hustle and bustle of CBD it is a no-frills refuge for those who can’t afford or don’t want to spend big on a bed. Amenities are good. Kitchen is spacious. Only drawbacks are small rooms and lack of paper towel and hand wash in the kitchen. Bowls and cutlery are limited but I guess with this kind of money you pay you shouldn’t get too fussed. You get what you pay for after all. Staff are friendly. I checked out with no adverse reactions.

If your after a budget stay then this is an ideal hostel, relatively clean rooms/bathrooms quite central in the CBD about 10 minutes walk to the viaduct. Could hear a lot of noise outside later in the night which was a bit of a downside however for $20 per night it wasn’t a big deal would stay again but only for a couple of nights.

I stayed in the eight bed female dorm and had a generally positive experience. The room was very sheltered from outside noise and roommates were considerate. Bunks are a bit creaky and there isn't a huge amount of space for everyone's bags, but the shared bathrooms are clean, showers good and kitchen usable. WiFi was also good enough for video calls and films. The surrounding area is a bit intimidating after dark and the hostel is tucked away up a random concrete staircase. I didn't have any issues though. Basically, it's a simple no frills hostel which does what it says on the tin and is in a good central location.

The stay i had in Hobson lodge was by far the worst I’ve had so far in NZ - please spend your money elsewhere. The reception was rude and seemed like she hated it, there was ONE cleaning lady who did the superficial cleaning. The kitchen is far from what they are advertising(see photos). There was a total of 3 spoons, 2 knives and i dont even know how few forks. The kitchen was infested by flies everywhere and the other guests weren’t kind by any standards, some of the stuff we stored in the kitchen(butter etc.) was taken by other people. Surprisingly there were no means of writing what was yours when you stored in the refridgerators. The toilets - dont even get me started. There were a total of 4 toilets and 4 bathrooms, 3 of the 4 toilets were by no means inviting. Either they’d have pee on the floor, excrement on the toilet seat or they were flooded. Oh and both the sink and refridgerators had mold. To summarize this, don’t bother spending your money here, it has fallen far from grace.

Pros: the hostel is located in the city center. U can find a plenty of restaurants around u, only 2 mins walk to the grocery, skytowner & aa centre… Besides, the price of living is really friendly.
Cons: to be honey, the bed linen is little bit dirty, the water
pressure of showerhead does not perform well. The fridges have not enough space to storage stuffs for all customers.

GGuest UserWe were a group of 9 people (2 adults and 7 youth) and we had booked a 6 bedroom and a 4 bedroom apartment. Upon arriving at the Best Western we were advised that we had been given a free room upgrade from a 4 bedroom to a 7 bedroom suite. It was fantastic with enough room for everyone to join in together in one of the apartments for meals etc. In both apartments we had a main bedroom downstairs with kitchen, bathroom etc and then upstairs were the additional beds with own bathroom. Kitchens were big enough for us to cook and make lunches for our day trips. Everything was clean and tidy. The only unfortunate thing was that the 6 bedroom apartment had a lingering smell of fish emanating from the fridge but it was clean and we managed to ignore it.
RRachel JOur family of 5 stayed during a 3 night holiday to Auckland, choosing this accommodation as not many can accommodate 3 child families, and also liked the location within close proximity to the mall etc. The layout and space was good but that's pretty much where it ends. It appears that some of the units may have been renovated but our unit was obviously not one of them. The room was rough, with holes in walls purely patched, one electrical socket was even hanging out of the wall. Our bathroom window would not shut probably so we had to ensure lights were off to reduce bug visitors. The place was also grotty, the sink etc needed a good clean, initially I thought the old timber etc might just be stained etc due to age but one wipe of a tissue over the skirting board revealed thick dust. The light fitting in the bathroom was full of dead bugs. About 3 blown bulbs in the unit. The crockery was stained and much of it with chips and cracks. The location and space means with some much needed TLC our unit would be great... but as it stands we wouldn't stay here again as for $235 per night we were terribly disappointed.
GGuest UserTotally disappointed in our two night stay here. This premise also goes under the name 'Auckland Airport Kiwi Hotel' and Auckland Airport Kiwi Backpackers', the Backpackers has now been turned into what is called 'Premier studio apartments'.'. When we arrived the lady at reception stated that she had only debited our card for the first night, we were to pay for our second night when checking out. Our 'Premier Studio Apartment' was clearly an ex backpacker room, our lawn view was 2 mtrs of unmown grass which looked straight into the rooms across from us. The room was clean enough but extremely under equipped. We had booked for 3 people, we had 2 towels, 2 facecloths, no hand towel, no tea towel or dish cloth. After the 3rd ask for these items we finally received two extra facecloths to be used as a tea towel and dishcloth, eww! The kitchen had 1 fork, 1 teaspoon, 3 knives and large spoons, 1 glass, no wine glasses. Odd cups and plates of various sizes. There was a microwave and hotplates but no other utensils at all besides the bits and pieces mentioned. No Ice tray. No coathangers. The bathroom light flickered constantly, there was rubbish under the beds, and on further inspection, the fire alarm did not contain a battery. (illegal) On checking out was told that our account had been settled. Inspection of bank account showed that our 2nd night had been deducted two hours after we had checked in and an extra $4.50 had been taken. Asked on their chat window (which is how we booked our stay due to no one answering the phone, ever) and was emailed back, them stating that this extra cost was due to paying by Visa. No mention of this throughout our booking or on their website. Would not stay here again.
JJUNThe hotel facilities are too old, but the rooms are big enough. The location of the hotel is very good, just at the seaside of Half Moon Bay, a few steps away from the door to see the pier full of private yachts. Supermarkets and restaurants are also nearby, and the walking distance is only 20-30 meters.
This property has much to offer but let's themselves down on the smaller details. Rooms were huge and well appointed, quiet, great off street parking and extremely comfortable. However many items were not overly clean, outdoor area littered, window sills, oven, microwave, fridge and crockery/cutlery needed attention. Before daring to eat off crockery or drink from glasses (that were filthy) we had to clean, they were unhygienic. Oven had leftovers on the base, microwave had splatter from previous guests and fridge was not clean. Given COVID I would have expected a much higher level of cleaning however they have obviously relied on previous guests to clean sufficiently, this was not the case. However when we addressed with cleaning staff they were lovely and accommodating and cleaned window sills. We arrived at 1700hrs we had anticipated an earlier arrival but due to flight delays we were a few hours later (reception open until 1900hrs so we were not concerned) however was closed. We called the number on the door and were given a lockbox number, keys retrieved to room but they had not been allocated and we could not access. Thankfully another couple had already called reception and they were en-route so this problem was solved quickly. Also staff advised that we had been inadvertently charged twice and refund was in process however 7 days later no refund for over-charge has been processed. This is a great property, cleaning ladies were lovely but Management just need to get the basics right. Reception should be available as stated, rooms and amenities should be cleaned and outdoor areas need attention. I would stay here again and I can recommend but please Management address the issues we have raised. This will elevate your property rating considerably with little effort. I would have liked to address these issues directly with Management however as we were busy and office often closed, we did not have the opportunity to address directly when we were in residence.
GGuest UserThere is airport pick-up and location is reasonable, but because it is general motel, should we not expect a feeling of cleanliness of room very much? The water around was good.
Along the main road, the room away from the road did not feel noisy.
Great place to stay. Yes it’s a bit dated but they don’t advertise as a five star resort! People are kind, close to the city, close to shops. Room was great. Bed was comfy plenty of parking, whilst not the Hilton it does its purpose of housing you comfortably for the time you are here and talk about clean. I haven’t had a cleaner place!! What’s awesome to wake up to is the sound of the native birds chirping away in the morning. Highly recommend if you are here for the night, weekend or week.
WWynner57This motel is conveniently located for access to the city and to the airport. Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are adequate and appeared clean and tidy but room did have a small as if it had been a smoking room previously and/or had some water leaks somewhere. No aircon which is OK in winter - there is a heater but a desk fan in a humid Auckland night does not make a lot of difference. Comfortable bed. Small and odd shower with very low water pressure - not great for rinsing conditioner out of hair. Handy to shops and restaurants at Royal Oak. Thai Archer has amazing food
GGorgeousI needed a hotel room with 2 rooms in it for 6 people.
Somehow the booking booked in 2 hotel rooms with 2 rooms in each and therefore could sleep 12 people.
I think it is a description thing - communication went wrong
I did ask but the receptionist could not give me a refund .. we end up using both hotel rooms any way.
This is not a complaint.
This is only to raise your awareness to the description of 2 rooms - means 2 rooms in the one hotel accomondation vs 2 hotel accomondation
The location is amazingly close to the airport.
If you could start replacing the mattress it would make a difference.
Nothing minor cosmetic changes will make the place come up a million dollars.
Hope this helps
Regards
Gorgeous Le
GGuest UserLocated in the city, but the surrounding area is relatively deserted and it is inconvenient to have no car.
The room is quite big, it should be considered a suite, and the facilities are complete.
