The Desoto - Oceanview Inn

The staff is friendly and accommodating, creating a warm atmosphere. The location is ideal for accessing the beach. Guests praise the clean, spacious rooms with practical amenities and comfortable beds.

Room H We have been coming to the DeSoto Inn for about ten years for a short winter break from the Indiana cold. We have stayed in several of the rooms. THEN When Steve owned the DeSoto he and his partner performed a miraculous renovation. They added tropical gardens, tiki huts and parrots! The building is quite old but the kitchens, bathrooms, and the rest of the interior were in impeccable shape. And spotlessly clean. At least six days a week staff were on the property keeping it tidy. Plus Steve and partner lived on the property so could keep a close eye on it. The place was always full in the winter so we would reserve for the next year when we were checking out. Steve sold the property about three years ago. NOW Positives: Bed is comfortable. And the hotel is still about 75 yards to the beach. Negatives: We were the only guests for a couple of days. Almost spooky. Mildew in shower, probably because the exhaust fan is not working. See pictures. Outside of fridge rusted. Many of the electrical outlets don’t work. I unplugged a lamp to plug in my power *****. When I replugged the lamp it sparked. Fortunately we were able to get a different lamp but the incident gave us serious concerns about the safety of the wiring in the building. Gardens not maintained. It’s very sad a lot of the garden is dying including some ancient bougainvilleas. They NEED water. The entire place looks shabby and falling into disrepair on the verge of becoming decrepit. Christian. Manager? We saw him once in six days. He said he would email me a receipt and other information. Never got it even after texting and requesting it. Also he tried to overcharge us about $250 for our five night stay. I said, I don’t think so and whipped out my confirmation from a year ago. He mumbled something about a computer conversion (right…), and proceeded to charge us the correct amount. Husband confused our room and accidentally tried to open the door to the room next to ours. Code for door lock same as ours!! Fortunately room was vacant. Rarely saw any employees on the property. We ran out of tp so we took a roll from the room next door. Very empty of guests. Used to be ALWAYS completely full in the past. Don’t believe the five star rating. Those reviews are old.

Little Gem Low key, quiet spot with beautiful garden half a blocks walk to a private beach. Not much more can ask for.
