Words fail to capture how incredible this experience was for us from beginning to end. What a place! I can't imagine a safari experience could better this and I have to say our driver Wendy and tracker Butter are worldclass. We saw everything and more!!! The food was sensational and the staff make you feel like royalty. I hope to come again and recommend without hesitation. People here came from Kruger and said they wish they'd just come here! Need I say more!?

Stayed here for 3 nights recently. Lovely staff, all very friendly. Rooms have concrete floors, as do most of the hotel. They may be trendy, but not customer friendly as the floor in the rooms are very cold - providing slippers would be useful. They are also a bit slippy in the bathroom if wet. Loved the enormous, comfortable bed, the huge shower - and the outdoor shower! The ranger/guide (Sharron) was extremely knowledgeable and interesting, not just about the very many animals we saw, but also the plants and trees. Overall, a great stay!

This was by far our best safari and stay in Africa. The accommodations are comfortable, roomy, and clean. Rommie made sure everything we needed was done. I have a shellfish allergy and am a vegetarian which can be difficult but not here. Food outstanding. The safari guides, Patrick and Wonder Boy found the Africa big five on the first safari including the elusive leopard. They shared so many informative and interesting facts about the animals. We visited four countries in Africa and this was the best!!! Thank you

Makalali ticked all the boxes, incredible team from waiters/waitress, helpers and chefs. Great bush experience with the family thanks to the incredible rangers Emma and Nonku.

Makalali was incredible. The staff were amazing. Our Safaris were fun, informative and everything we hoped for. The driver and tracker were the best and the food was top notch. Would go back in a second.

Wonderful Safari The Lodge exceeded expectations. We received a warm welcome, which set the tone for our stay. Our knowledgeable ranger and tracker made this a memorable trip (Thank you Wonderboy and Patrick). We saw the big 5, and had a bonus sighting of a Black Rhino and its calf, Chefs accommodated our request for Indian Vegetarian food-yum! The accommodation was spacious and pristine. Staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. We stayed in Block 1 of Main Lodge, which was close to dining area and Bar. Overall a restful and beautiful experience in the Bush. Thank you Makalali Lodge

My husband and I had the most amazing safari experience at Makalali!! The staff are so friendly and passionate about wild life. Learned so much from Patrick who was our guide. He made sure that we saw 4 of the big 5 up close and a cheetah too (sometimes bravely going on foot to track the animals). The food was amazing. Exceptional experience!

The experience in Makalali river lodge was totally over our expectations. From the check-in till the end we felt sorrounded by warmness and kindness. A special mentions to the Driver and Tracker, Pilot and Promise, special person in special place. Love the nature, the place, the room, but mostly the people of Makalali. Such a great experience!

Makalali is a private reserve that exceeded our expectations in terms of the safari experience. The rangers and spotters are top-notch and the facility's ***** areas lovely. The staff is knowledgeable and accommodating.
