Lakeview Inns & Suites - Hinton

Over all our stay is good! The place was clean, presentable & organized. Except other guests are smoking in the hallways and stair cases and they just drop there ashes and cigarette butts everywhere. Maybe implement or make smoking areas where they can smoke. Thank you!

This hotel is located at a convenient place on Highway 16. It is clean and the staff was very helpful.

July, 2024 was a disastrous time for Jasper National Park, as a wildfire burned out of control, destroying 33,048 hectares of the park, as well as one third of the townsite. It wasn't until September 7th, that Parks Canada announced that the fire was under control. Our family has enjoyed this park for many years and, so drawn by a desire to see first hand how extensive the damage was, we took a journey there in early October to see for ourselves. It was very bad and so much more extensive than I would have realized, basically, all the way from Athabaska Falls, past Jasper Townsite, and east on the Yellowhead highway. There were areas close to the townsite that had received no damage, namely the Patricia Lake area and Pyramid Lake area. The roadway up to Maligne Canyon, remained closed. The question, is the park still worthwhile visiting? Oh, most definitely. Keep in mind, a lot of Jasper's forests were ravaged by the Pine Bark Beetle, so a fire seemed inevitable. A small consolation considering the damage to the town, where about a third of the townsite was destroyed, mostly people's homes. The good news is these will be rebuilt and the forest will regenerate itself. That process has already begun. We saw evidence of this already in October. Also, the wildlife is returning, no doubt some were destroyed, but we did see a number of elk actually, involved in natural activities, like the annual rutting season. So extremely sad as this all was, things will develop, in a new and better way. I am also reminded of the Kenow Wildfire that burned through Waterton National Park in late summer 2017. It also was devastating, not so much damage to structures, but there was also great areas of natural habitat burned. It is recovering quite well. There is a lot of natural regrowth occurring, the least of which are the myriad number of wildflowers present. Nature will take care of its own.The sad thing is the tragedy of people's lives so severely disrupted. We wish you all the best and, you will bounce back. So yes, don't hesitate to visit. Spring will see the start to rejuvenation. We had planned on seeing what we could the first day, spending a night and doing a bit more viewing the next day, before heading back home. There was still not much open in the town, mostly everything was still shutdown, so we drove to Hinton to find accommodation for the night. We booked a room at the Lakeview Inns and Suites. Although, not set in the grandeur of the mountains, it still offered us what we needed for the night before we headed back into Jasper next day for a bit more exploring. The hotel was clean, beds were comfortable, our checkin was good and there was breakfast, though some what lacking, the next morning. If you are headed west and need to stop before entering Jasper, I believe a stop at Lakeview Inn and Suites would serve you well.
