Royal Azur Thalassa

We really struggled with the service here. I told them I was getting married and I have family staying with them as well as family scattered at other nearby hotels. Royal Azur is the only hotel that would not cooperate with us to allow guests into the hotel. We were stopped multiple times at the front gate and the staff in the front desk would not accommodate our needs. Weddings are stressful as it is, however, the hotel did not alleviate any of that and added more levels of stress. I will not be coming back here.

Food options at breakfast and dinner were decent. We are glad we went for the half board option. Desserts were really nice. Free access to indoor heated pools were really good and jacuzzi. Great view from our bedroom with two balconies. ATM and money exchange was available at the hotel. Corner shops and food shops also nearby. Evening entertainment bit loud. Beautiful view of seafront and walkable to beach with unlimited drinks. Spacious rooms and quiet. Sadly bedsheets were dirty did request for them to be changed but were still bubbly and very uncomfortable to sleep in. Pillows were too soft. Carpets a bit run down in hotel and smell of cigarettes in corridors. Requested iron three times and didnt get it till next day. Any additional water bottles for the room we were told had an extra charge. Decent hotel for a short stay.

This hotel pretends to be 5 stars but lack details that would put it firmly in that category such as attentive service. So many little things that makes you wonder, like not being able to provide 2 door keycards for couple, or failing to offer free gym. Besides the building itself must be the worst architecture for such a privileged spot. It’s confusing, tiering and has no character and no charm. It also looks unfinished with plateformes for pool showers with no showers (need long walk to get to the only one), and no signs anywhere to help navigating this badly conceived building. Add to that the fact that it gets crowded so you need to fight for spots on the pool and beach which isn’t what you expect for a 5 stars. This is due to the fact that locals have access from outside providing they buy a yearly pass, and that the other 2 sisters crowded hotels guest can get in via the many alleys with no control which comes back to the lack of personnel. There are good things though: the rooms (refurbished entirely). The Tunisian art (masterpieces of paintings and sculptures) in the lobby areas. The pools look nice (did not try). The restaurant is well staffed, varied and tasting reasonably good. And the lovely Hammamet beach. I would comeback only if they sort their policy towards better service, more personnel and better behaviour, and stricter access controls.
