My wife and I are from Texas, US. We were in the Mirisa beach area and wanted a break from the busy tourist scene. Were informed of some hotels in the Tangalle area and choose the Sooriya resort in Rekawa based on feedback from a German couple we met. The hotel was peaceful and quiet, it was exactly what we were looking for. Away from the hustle and bustle. The room had a nice sea view and we stayed for 4 nights. The food was very good with many local dishes as well. Staff were very friendly and the reception arranged an excursion day trip for us. There is a swimmable beach within walking distance and we were lucky to see turtles on shore. The hotel is in a secluded location with nice gardens. The access road to the hotel was not yet developed fully and the ride was a bit bumpy but not a big problem. Pool was clean with nice view. Next time I visit Sri Lanka it will be to explore the northern parts such as Sigiriya, Trincomalee , Jaffna, and the ruins in the Anuradhapura, Mihintale area. However, will try and unwind at Sooriya resort at least for a few days at the end of the sight seeing. Overall , good value for money if you are looking for relaxing away from the busy beach hotels 20 minutes away.

Totally unexpected experience, hotel was like unplanned and turned to be the best experience overall Sri Lanka, from the moment I approached the hotel entrance and directly realized that is such a great decision I made. From the check in to the time I left the hotel Welcoming attitude, with great services, remarkable friendly staff , restaurants food, cleanliness actually can’t find even a negative thoughts or feedings during my stay. A big thanks to everyone reception staff Ms. Permisha, Mr. Pradeep and Ms.Senuri And the special night at the rooftop restaurant with Mr. Janodya, and chef 👨‍🍳 Lakindo and chef Milan. The hotel is beautifully landscaped and integrated with the golf course. Although the beach sand is fine, it is brown, which seems not very suitable for play. The hotel has a lot of entertainment items, including small water park, swimming pool, billiards, table tennis, yoga, etc .; hotel rooms, lobby, BBQ, etc. are very beautiful. The only disadvantage is that the outside of the hotel is relatively barren. There are no other restaurants and restaurants.

The beach at the hotel is too wavy to swim and can only bask in the sun. But not far away, there is another public beach more than 100 meters, where you can swim. There are many choices for buffet breakfast and dinner, and the taste is good. Of course, there are occasional mistakes, such as grilled too raw beef shoulder. We stayed at the hotel in November 2024 with my daughter. Quiet place, caring and attentive staff. Delicious food. Amazing pool, a few steps to the ocean. A magical vacation, thank you very much for making it so. You can come to the reception with any questions: where to buy a raincoat, where is the hardware store, where to find a good tuk-tuk driver.
