This is an unconventional high-end small hotel... with a comfortable and quiet environment... very close to the Owakudani attractions (it only takes 10-15 minutes to get there by car). Whether it's dinner or breakfast, it's very thoughtful... It can be seen that the chef has made it carefully... Since I don't eat beef when I checked in... the chef immediately arranged alternative food. Although it was proposed very late, the quality of the food was not affected... It is worth recommending... The staff can communicate in English... I am a foreign employee. Each room has its own hot spring (real hot spring) which is a plus...😌

Used as part of the accommodation plan. Dinner was a creative Japanese kaiseki meal that changed with the seasons, using plenty of fresh seafood caught in Sagami Bay and Suruga Bay, Hakone Seiroku and Seisho vegetables, as well as "Hakone Seiroku Wagyu", a brand beef purchased by the group in its entirety, and many dishes made with seasonal ingredients. Rather than being traditional dishes, there were many dishes with a slightly creative twist, which I personally quite like. The taste was also outstanding. It was a great dinner where I could enjoy new Japanese cuisine.

One of the most amazing hotel experiences. I have stayed for work and pleasure at many of the finest hotels in the world, and this gem rates near the top for a small luxury hotel. The room was excellent, immaculate, and new. The service is incredible. All of the staff was great, but particularly the two Nepalese staff members (who have lived in Japan for some time), the primary one being named Budha, who was incredibly kind, attentive, and responsive and spoke excellent English. The hotel has an amazing executive chef as well and every night and morning they serve a Michelin-type multi-course unique meal served in Japanese style in a private dining room. Our room also had its own mineral bath in atraditional japanese tub pumped diredtly from the hot springs in a very large sepeate room with a view of the forest. Overall a fantastic experience worth many times the cost. It is highly recommended. We stayed in the most expensive room in the highest rated hotel in Kyoto prior to coming here, and while it was also excellent in all rergards, this was a better experience and value.

We absolutely adored our stay here. Everything was incredible, from the staff, to the view, to the meal. The room was exquisite - there are a lot of things (beverages, snacks, face masks) to make your stay cozy on top of having the amazing private onsen. I highly recommend paying extra for a Mt. Fuji view room as well! The meals were so authentically delicious and incredible, we enjoyed every bit of dinner and breakfast. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming and did a fantastic job accommodating my peanut allergy. While it was tricky to get to (a ~45 minute bus from Odawara or a few cable cars/trains), the remote-ness is absolutely part of the charm. From the ryokan it was super easy to get around Hakone which was a blast! I cannot recommend this place enough!

Stayed in second-floor Akane room for 1 night to experience the ryokan at rank 1 in TripAdvisor for Hakone area. Really worth the stay from the welcoming to the dining and in-room onsen. Want to thank the staff for their hospitality especially the friendly and English-speaking Nepalese named Binod. His jovial attitude and laughter brightens the stay for us. Overall highly recommended but we were not able to see the full Mt Fuji at all, only parts of it,unless you stay on the third floor. Maybe next time...

I stayed here for one night with my elderly parents. 1. The room has a hot spring bath. 2. You can sleep in a bed (for 2 people). I booked through Ikyu because of these two points. The half open-air bath with running water was comfortable with a separate shower booth. The room was spacious and the third person had a futon laid on the tatami mat. There was beer, vegetable juice, oolong tea, and coffee in the refrigerator. When I told them that it was for my mother's 90th birthday, they wrote a congratulatory message on the dessert plate at dinner, which I was very touched by. The person in charge was with us the whole time, and I thought it was a really heartfelt hospitality. I would give it 4 stars overall, but the food came out one dish at a time, took nearly 2 hours in total, and it was difficult for elderly people to continue sitting in a chair, so I gave it a minus 1. The food was very ingenious and delicious. The breakfast was also delicious. I would like to stay here again.

My husband and I booked this hotel/Ryokan in the middle of our vacation in Japan and we were not disappointed! We had a room that faced Mt. Fuji and a private onsen. The room itself was well appointed, and extremely comfortable. Sandi, one of the staff members was incredible! She spoke excellent English and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. She took the time to explain the amenities of the room and to find yukata we would be comfortable in. She really made the place something special! We were greeted with a complimentary non alcoholic wine (we are non-drinkers) and refreshment upon arrival. There was a full Kaiseki meal at breakfast and dinner everyday. When I discovered my tastes were too western to tolerate the fish offered they happily accommodated me with A5 Wagu beef! All beautifully presented! This is THE place to come if you are looking for a resting spot between Kyoto and Tokyo on your trip, or you just want to get out of the city and enjoy some of the traditional offerings of Japan. Simply amazing! Definitely will be back again!

My husband and I visited in the first week of April. We were planning to go by Hakone Tozan Railway → cable car → ropeway, but due to strong winds and rain, the ropeway was canceled, so it took about 20 minutes by bus from Sounzan Station. I was picked up from Ubako's bus stop. At this time, everyone except us was a foreigner. This is a small and wonderful inn where the guests take care of each and every group. There are only 8 or 9 rooms. I received a sparkling welcome drink (you can choose). Each room has an indoor bath with natural hot spring water, and is fully equipped with amenities. I was given Hakone ice cream, so I had it after taking a bath. Both dinner and breakfast are pure Japanese! We were very happy because we love Japanese food. The soy sauce is also smoked, giving it a slightly addictive taste. The food was cherry blossom soup, and the decorations were all spring-like, so it was a sight to behold. For breakfast, you can choose between porridge or white rice. We recommend the porridge with black rice! You can choose from fish, dried fish, mackerel, etc. I had a delicious meal and I am very satisfied. Most of the staff working here are from overseas, but they speak Japanese very well. I will visit you again next time. I hope to be able to use the ropeway next time.

Ok - I didn't take a taxi to the hotel/resort, so I had to hoof it 10 min. up the steep hill with my luggage. And I was already tired from figuring out that there is no bus pass, but you just have to pay as you go when you board the bus (I believe bus #4-this is key). On top of that I was hungry. When I asked the sweet, polite host where I could find lunch/transportation, she informed me that there is neither until check in at 3 pm. Needless to say, I was mildly pissed off and my incredulous response was rude. My son and I hiked back down to the bus and headed to the glass museum where we were able to eat lunch. After foregoing the shuttle and hiking back up the hill, I apologized to the nice woman for being so rude. And from then on, our experience there was magical. We had a stunning view of Mount Fuji from our Onsen (yes we had to stand up, but it was in full view). The room was perfect - spacious, clean, authentic, peaceful, just lovely! Maybe I didn't read the instructions carefully when I booked this place, but I didn't realize it came with breakfast. The breakfast, if you want to call it that, was a sumptuous meal - I'm not sure what it is called in Japanese- but it was absolutely delicious. We didn't have room or time for dessert, sadly; however, I'm sure that in itself was incredible. The dinner was spectacular - I think 10 courses - and the service, magnificent. I just cannot rave enough about how special this place is and I am not sharing our room number because I will definitely be back next year. Hakone Yuyado Zen was delightful and I am so fortunate to have been blessed to spend some time in this quiet sanctuary with a splendid view of heavenly Mount Fuji. Thank you to the staff for a memorable experience. I am going to be sending them a gift from the states to express my gratitude. And when I return, I plan to take the bus and hike up and down the hill again:) ! (sorry for lack of time to upload photos)
