Location and service was excellent, the hotel is very big with a beautiful small garden. Can tell that this is a good class old hotel, the facilities/furniture was a bit outdated though. The snacks in the room is a touching feeling as we normally don't have such service in the room.

GGuest UserLovely onsen ryokan. Staff don’t really speak English so there’s a bit of trying to figure things out for yourself. Nevertheless, service was friendly and helpful as best they could. The outdoor onsen is really relaxing and because it’s not a crowded hotel, both times I went I had it to myself as did my wife and kids in the ladies area. We picked the room with its own outdoor onsen tub which is a great option if you don’t want to use the non-private ones. You can apparently book private onsens but they did not have any available for us (possibly because we arrived slightly late in the day). Food was excellent for both dinner and breakfast. Kids couldn’t;’quite enjoy the onsens cause they found the water too hot so you may want to make sure your kids can before you decided to splurge. One final point, the ryokan is located down a tiny road on the right just before Google Maps tells you that you have reached.
GGuest UserThe hotel is very close to the JR station, within a 5-minute walk. The hotel is very Japanese, and you need to take off your shoes to enter the lobby. The hotel will communicate with you in advance, and you need to check in before 6 o'clock to prepare dinner. Because the day of check-in happened to be my son's birthday, I also communicated with the hotel in advance and booked a cake. When the cake was delivered, there was a birthday ceremony, which was quite a surprise. There is a hot spring on the first floor of the hotel, both indoors and outdoors. It feels very good to soak in the hot spring outdoors in the snow. But I understand that you can only check in after 3 o'clock, but it feels uncomfortable that you can't even sit in the lobby before 3 o'clock. In addition, it may be a more historical hot spring hotel. The hot spring facilities are average, the outdoor soup is relatively small, and the place to change clothes feels a bit cold. But the advantage is that the hot spring water is really good, and it feels slippery after soaking. Another thing is that checking out at 10 am feels a bit early. Another thing is that I may be uninformed. The private bath written on the reservation is just a small bathtub 😅 But the overall feeling is still good
GGuest UserThe staff welcomed us at the hotel entrance and helped us check in the hotel quickly. The staff was very helpful in explaining the hotel layout and where our meals would take place, and made sure we understood before leaving. The dinner and breakfast service were amazing, the ingredients were very fresh and delicious. Their hotel has an outdoor foot bath with towels provided which I enjoyed immensely. The hotel is very clean and has shuttle service which was convenient since it is on a hill. We enjoyed our stay very much.
GGuest UserThe most satisfying accommodation on this trip, must be praised 👍🏻
1 Location: On the edge of the hot spring river, very quiet and cozy, occasionally hear the beautiful sound of the stream, pleasant and comfortable.
2 Environment: A very Japanese-style cabin structure, exquisite and restrained. The interior is a combination of fresh logs and white walls, which is simple and atmospheric. The space is instantly spacious, bright, clean and tidy.
3 Details: The front desk waiter is warm, polite, meticulous and hospitable👍🏻. A tea table is set at the door on the second floor, which is very convenient for guests to eat. A warm and nutritious breakfast brings a good mood for a day's travel.
4 Value-added: The store gives each guest a warm baby + socks, which is considerate❤️
Looking forward to the next trip to Gero, I will choose Toraya👍🏻
PPanisaraThe hotel is very good. Before arriving 1 hour, because of heavy snow, I immediately changed my accommodation. So I looked for a new one. I decided to sleep at Gero Onsen. I found the hotel and chose the room type when I arrived. There was a small problem because it seemed like the hotel asked to check first and waited for 10 minutes. I got a room on the 10th floor. It was big and had a beautiful view. The onsen was very very good. It was a mixed room separated by gender on the 8th floor. There were both rooms and open-door access to the outdoor. The view of the snow was fluffy. It was suitable for all ages. Children and the elderly loved it. The breakfast was varied, but too salty for me... In conclusion, I was not tired anymore and was impressed. I want to stay again.
Note: The bathroom seemed to be cold water. We had to use the hot water in the shared bathroom (onsen).
- I couldn't find the water in the room. There was only a kettle with cold water for boiling water.
But there was a tea set provided. 🥲 So I didn't know which floor to get the hot water. I was afraid of being thirsty, so I went down to buy some water (I'm not sure if I didn't prepare everything).
GGuest UserExcellent! Very satisfied for this onsen hotel!! Definitely recommend this accommodation to friends and family. Everything is over expectation: services, facilities, room, public bath (onsen), food, and all. One drawback would be language barrier between some staff, but they really trying to communicate with us which is impressive. Also, there is a free shuttle bus service between train station and hotel during daytime, very convenient. Tips for me is to book this hotel on weekdays, it is half price cheaper than weekends or holidays.
GGuest UserMy stay at this hot spring hotel was disappointing, especially in terms of food and service. The dinner experience lacked any semblance of service standards. The food was already placed in the room before we entered, and the waiter merely asked if we lit the fire without offering explanations or providing a menu. They also kept forgetting different cutlery for various dishes, making the experience feel chaotic and unprofessional. The food itself was very ordinary, far below the quality I've experienced at other hot spring hotels.
The private onsen was another letdown, as the water switch was broken, leaving us unable to adjust the temperature or flow. This meant enduring uncomfortably hot water throughout. Breakfast was similarly disappointing—simple and uninspired, offering no surprises or variety. Overall, this hotel fell well short of the standard expected from a hot spring retreat.
GGuest UserAn old hotel that retains its grandness..
Although at check in, I was informed there's a charge only if I take the flowery yukata. There are free surprises in the Japanese room every day.
Clean Japanese socks, towels in bags and a different Japanese sweet every day with Japanese tea
My room faces the Hida River, it was beautiful looking out. It is very near the rail line, but it didn't disturb me.
And I suppose all river facing hotels face the same light loving insects. But if you follow the instructions placed in the room, it is alright
CCKA very satisfactory stay. The environment is clean and hygienic, the staff are friendly, and the service is very good. There is a shuttle bus to and from Gero Station. You can enjoy two meals in the room for one stay. The food is generous and the dishes are very exquisite and beautiful. My family is very satisfied.
RRex Wong HKThe overall experience was very satisfactory, and the Mandarin-speaking waiter arranged for us from Hong Kong and the communication was smooth. There is no shuttle bus at the location, but it takes more than ten minutes to walk from the JR station. If the luggage is not heavy, it is not too far. The hotel is beautiful, there is a letter shop at the beginning, and there is a foot bath hot spring pool. The seventh floor is a separate hot spring pool for men and women, with an open-air pool. The male soup faces the direction of the station and sees different scenery sooner or later. The female soup is very private, but there is no scenery. It seems that you can order private baths for men and women, but we have no time to try this time.
The room is large, you can choose to make a bed, there is no problem for four people, but this time it is only my girlfriend and I. The view of the stream outside the room is particularly beautiful at night, but it is very light in the morning. It is recommended to bring your own blindfold to sleep later. There are special activities on Saturday, there are many performances and stalls, very atmospheric.
Finally, meals, breakfast and dinner can not be missed, you can enjoy at a few designated times. We stayed for two nights, two days have different menus, the dishes have signature flying yak and fish raw, but the cooking method is different, very pleasant, it is recommended that two nights do not need to transfer to the hotel.
