The hotel is located beside the river, there is a back gate to access to the river. More quiet compared to Sheraton.

The hotel was good, however, I chose it because all the children amenities that they were advertised, and sadly most of them were non existent or very poorly coordinated. Another major issue is that I booked the hotel because of the indoor pool, which was closed during our whole stay, they offer complentary kids club playground service which was nice, but definitely not enough to.compensate not having a pool, my kid was totally disappointed, as I had mentioned this as a great feature of the hotel. The staff was friendly but if you are choosing the hotel because it's kids friendly, move along as most of the activities aren't really there....

The hotel is not situated in the city centre, but it only takes you a few minutes cab/hired car ride to the city centre. It costs around RMB 10 to city centre where you can find more eateries. I love the beautiful hill scenery from my room, which is a kind of postcard view. After every dinners, I like walking in the spacious garden area outside the hotel lobby. Quiet, comfy and relaxing!
I find some foreign tourists in the morning buffet session, so it must be a good choice for foreigners who might trust an international reputable hotel group.

This hotel does not deserve the Shangri-la brand. The hotel is very dated, the room has not been well maintained. The hotel towel had material coming off, stuck all over me and my clothes, and when I complained to the front desk, all they offered me was 15% off my buffet dinner which really is quite insulting.
The buffet was also terrible, with lot of cold food or overcooked meats.
I don't know how a Shangri-la hotel can be this bad. There are much better options, even some 3 star or 4 star options are better than this.

Wonderful and spacious room. Nice to relax in.
The distance to downtown is about 5km. Getting a Didi ride is no problem. The view of the garden and the Guilin landscape from the room was fantastic.
The staff at the travel desk were very helpful too.

The location is wonderful, the service is very good. You can learn and practice Taiji (Tai Chi) there, and if you like to run - you can run along the riverside for 8km.

Service is good. All the staff are helpful. However the hotel interior furnishing is very dated. Could smell cigarette smell in the room travelled in from other rooms. Spa service is very expensive. Location is convenient though.

Amazing trip! Our kids enjoyed it a lot! They loved the animals and Lily Wan explained their life habits to them in most patient way.

The room had a great view, gave a retro old vibe which is nice, but the amenities were just too old. It really needs renovation and more attention to cleanliness.
The staff was nice, check-in and-out was fast and smooth.
It was not what I expected, probably will not stay here again.

The view is fabulous and accidentally there is fireworks in mid-night right in front of the room. The experience is fantastic with the super big bed which could serve for 4 people.

My first impression of Shangri La Guilin is that many staff speak English proficiently or at least the basics that are required for their job. I arrived an hour and a half before the check in time but they promptly checked me into my room without any long wait. My luggage was taken to my room by a bell boy whose English was even better than the front of the house. My initial thoughts of the room was that it was quite old fashioned and the interior design & amenities were dated in comparison to most 5 star hotels. The view however was exceptional. I could clearly see the garden, river and mountains. After my first night I was woken by some loud music. Though the staff tried to tell the dancers that playing the music was disruptive to their guests, they continued to play it which further frustrated me. I informed the guest manager Edward who was very helpful in rectifying this. He upgraded me into a much nicer room that he ensured me should be quieter. They also gave me complimentary fruits in the room which added to the nice gesture. This is exactly the kind of quality of service that earns them a 5 star rating. Carl at the front desk was also very competent and was very helpful when I had to pay for something through wechat.
The room I came with was a package deal that included breakfast, spa voucher, photoshoot and club privileges. It was worth the extra cost as the all inclusive club buffet during happy hour was filling and tasty (photo attached).
Breakfast was a Chinese buffet with a fusion of western basics such as cereal, toast and bakery items.
If you have the time, I would highly recommend seeing Kelly (English name) for a "signature Asian" massage at the spa. She applied the perfect pressure for me and was very kind.
The photoshoot was organised through wechat and included 6 photos. The photographer was lovely and the final photos made special memories of my time in China.
Suggestions for improvement: several items in the room are in need of repair or replacement eg. old hair dryer that lightly blows air (useless), flickering lights when you turn it on and the phones. I also think if they were to refurbish the pools outside then the place would appear less worn down.
Overall, the service and reputation is what made this stay worth it. I look forward to staying at Shangri La again
