Chestnut Villa

We had been camping for 2 weeks & although the weather had been kind to us it was great to sleep in a lovely comfortable bed. The bathroom was fabulous, a huge walk in shower & free standing bath so I enjoyed both. The room & bathroom was spotlessly clean which is really important to me. The view was lovely too. The fact that you let yourself in but someone is nearby to help if needed is perfect. The location was great, walking distance into the village. A really great place to stay, would highly recommend. The owners own a cafe in the village where we had some breakfast (not included in the price of the room but you do get a discount) & the food was delicious 😋

I'm mystified by the high reviews. The location was extremely poor--the worst in all of Grasmere, the room was extremely cramped, there was no breakfast (despite what it says here), and entering the location was difficult. I hope this negative review restores accuracy to the overall rating.

Outstanding. What a beautiful place to stay! The room has been styled with a light touch, fusing 60s and modern. Immaculately clean, decadently cosy , comfortable and spacious . Michael is the perfect host, not at all intrusive but there to help with whatever we needed. If I could have given more than 5 stars I would have. Superb!

Chestnut Villa is a wonderful place to stay when visiting Grasmere. It feels like staying in a 5 star hotel but with the benefits and pricing of a family run guesthouse. This will be my fifth stay over the last eight years and each visit gets better. The beds are extremely comfortable and the pillows and bed linen are of the highest quality. The ensuites are beautifully presented and you can see a great deal of effort has gone into every detail. Coffee and tea are provided in the room and you can take a ten minute stroll down to the centre of Grasmere for breakfast or brunch at Mike's cafe, Freda and Ray. I highly recommend Chestnut Villa if you are looking for a luxury room in a stunning setting.

My husband and I stayed at the Chestnut Villa for 2 nights and couldn’t fault our accommodation. Had a lovely room with a fantastic view. Very quiet, so a good nights sleep. Bed was comfortable, tea and coffee making facilities, dressing gowns provided and the shower was amazing. Probably just lacked a bit of storage space (I don’t travel light), and just be aware there isn’t a lot of parking space outside the property. 10 minutes walk to the village and roughly the same distance to The Travellers Rest pub : very nice food. I loved Chestnut Villa and we would highly recommend staying here and will be back soon.

Stayed here with my hubby two nights over October half term. The room ( helm crag) really pretty. With views on both sides of room. On main road but we were not disturbed by it at all. It was quiet. Hosts lovely and friendly. Relaxed atmosphere and all rooms finished to a very high standard. Breakfast lovely too. We will definitely go back.

I stayed here in their suite in August and it was simply gorgeous. we stayed in a suite i think because it had a living room, bathroom and bedroom. The bathroom had a separate bath tub which was a roll top clawed feet tub and was heavenly!! Nice big sink, huge shower, all the fittings are just gorgeous and elegant really high quality. Despite it being on a main road we didn't hear a thing at night. There were games left to play so we had a cracker night either games and watched a film with the patio door open and the rain pouring down...it was so beautiful. My only criticism is the parking....its a sharp turn off the road onto a drive where we ate all sandwiched together but reversing on and off is tricky with the road. Also unfortunately look out for white boulders in the long grass as I badly damaged my car parking on the grass verge.. and didn't see the boulder hidden in the grass. other than that this is a superb little place and we'd happily stay here again xxx

After a tiring day walking the Coast to Coast we received a warm welcome at Chestnut Villa. Our boots were whisked away to be dried overnight while we got to clean up and relax in the beautiful downstairs room complete with very welcome bath and a view of the fells. After a great nights sleep we enjoyed a delicious breakfast and all set for the next stage of our walk. Thanks for a great stay. If you’re walking this is a wonderful, restful highlight on the path.

We had a lovely room overlooking the fells. Mike, the host, was very welcoming. He is also a great cook. (His day job is owning/running a tea room in Grasmere.) He gave good advice about places to eat. The room was very spacious, clean and bright. Breakfast was ready quickly because of the efficient pre-order process, where you could choose off a list what you wanted for breakfast. There was even a box for special requests, if you wanted to order something less standard in Britain, like an omelette. Very comfortable beds.
