It’s currently 2:00am, Sunday morning, June 1st. I’m writing this from my vehicle where I’m sleeping for the night. I booked two rooms at nearly $500 each for one night, as we traveled down here for a concert. We returned to our room around 10:30pm to get some sleep before heading home in the morning. The lobby was like a nightclub with a DJ and very loud music, which was alarming. But trying to sleep has been a disaster. The parking garage across the street and the road below our rooms are filled with people on loud speakers, yelling, tuned car engines and motorcycles revving their engines, for hours now. It is unbearable. It’s Tokyo Drift meets Fast and Furious. There is nothing peaceful or comfortable about staying here. The only thing I could do was get dressed, head to my vehicle in a different parking garage (because the hotel doesn’t have parking) and try to sleep here. It is much quieter. I told the front desk and they apologized, and I know it’s not their fault, but how has no one complained before? I held the door open so they could hear. I expect some sort of refund for resorting to sleeping in my car. For $500 per night, I expected a much different experience. Please note, all the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful, except the night manager who said they’d never had any complaints before. I’m so disappointed, and exhausted. Just beware….if you’re here for an all-night party, you’ll love it. If you actually expect a great night’s sleep, not so much. Pic: The view from my ‘room’ in my vehicle. ETA: I emailed the operations manager, and she responded promptly with an acknowledgement that they know the street noise is a problem, and offered to wave my parking garage fee and pet fee. I paid $1000 for two rooms and had to sleep in my car. Do better, Marriott. That’s crappy compensation for what I endured. You know it’s a problem, and do nothing but offer apologies, ear plugs and a fan.

Absolutely AMAZING!!
Went to a concert at Van Andel Arena with my 21 year old son. The staff were absolutely AMAZING. They were friendly and welcoming, and gave me perfect directions to get to the Arena (3 minute WALK). I will stay here every time I go to the Arena. They've earned a customer for life!! Keep up the AMAZING work!!!

Notes on my stay (City View Room w/ 1 King Bed): -Room and bathroom were very clean; bed and pillows very comfortable -Lobby/bar area is small, but cute. A DJ was spinning on both nights of my stay. Did not love that guests also have to pay a cover (albeit, only $5) -I'm not sure what the room cleaning protocol is, as I did not need any -I had a TERRIBLE night's sleep due to the loud drag racing that I could hear very clearly from my room (I was several floors up). Hotel needs to lobby for some drag racing control/monitoring or something. A true nuisance. -Hotel is pricey in my opinion, but I noticed that it's on the lower price end for other comparable hotels in the area (I guess I don't understand why hotels cost so much in Grand Rapids :)
