Centrally located, value for money.

As a four star hotel there were a few things which didn’t add up on this stay unfortunately. The staff all seemed very nice and it’s a lovely hotel inside, however, I arrived at 2pm but check-in is from 3pm and I was asked if I wanted to pay £10 for an early check in which I declined and had a drink in the bar instead. This did however mean at 3pm, along with other arrivals and people who also had declined early check-in there was a crowd of people at a very small reception trying to register which meant another 15 mins waiting to be given my room. I can perhaps understand a charge if you were to arrive before usual check-out time at 12pm. Ideally a good hotel would have just allowed me to check in if the room was ready. If the room wasn’t ready, I’d rather just be told that and to enjoy a drink at the bar rather than come up with an irritating additional charge. The room itself was fine, with a high ceiling and a very comfy bed. The bathroom however was utterly dreadful, mainly because of the shower. The water pressure was virtually non existent and the glass shower screen was so small and useless that even with such poor water pressure water just spills onto the floor. The showers really need doors. The sink could also do with some additional shelving space. It felt like the bathrooms were style over substance. I did mention the shower issue when leaving and the lady said there were some issues on the floor. Whilst not expecting a refund, perhaps the offer of a small good will gesture of a discount on another stay would have been appropriate. Unfortunately, the shower issues were so bad I will not be returning or be able to recommend this hotel.
