Room is spacious with balcony. Outside the hotel, there are public buses going to Funchal center. It's also located in the shopping area with restaurants and supermarkets. You can sit at rooftop to have a sea view. Breakfast buffet is good. Airport is less than half hour on taxi.
Morden, nice and comfy hotel with modern facilities. The location was convenient as it wasn’t far from Funchal by public transport or walk. Within the area, it had variety of options to eat out, exercise and but something essential near by. Breakfast was nice and fresh and well organised.
Would come back again if needed.
The hotel is in a good location and the sea view room which we reserved had a nice view of ocean. But, I need to mention that this hotel is not a 4 star hotel. The whole building is old and they kept it in an old fashion way. The bath is not good, they don't offer even water in daily service and neither tea. (which is expected from a four star hotel)
The elevator is old and always full, really not suitable for an eleven floor building.

The hotel is in a great location, the apartment/room was perfect with a great view. Reception staff were always helpful and friendly. Cannot recommend the lady at breakfast each morning highly enough - she was the most friendly welcoming person, always a pleasure to say hello in the morning. The breakfast is vast lots of fresh fruit, meat and cheeses, cereals, pastries and hot food and also plenty additionally cooked to order if you require. The pool area is lovely and clean, located on the roof with a very relaxed vibe. About a 25 minute walk into the old town of Funchal, lots of great places to eat nearby the hotel. Only downside, it is next to a road. It is not excessively busy but you can expect some traffic noise but this did not disturb us in any way.
Excellent big hotel. Many German pensioners. Very good location - on the ocean shore, next to a large shopping center Forum and beach Formoz. By 1 or 2 bus the road to the center of Funshala takes 12 minutes.
Breakfasts are very diverse, but queues for coffee after 8 a.m.. They go on the floor with a stunning view of the ocean, you can sit on the street.
I didn't like the pools - with a beautiful view, but the water is narrow, everywhere on the belt. Only for children. The air conditioner works only for cooling - the room was cold.
The hotel that left a deep impression will have a chance to come back. The hotel is in a great location, close to the edge of the cliff. Invincible sea view. All kinds of swimming pools are suspended on the edge of the cliff at different heights. There are sea water, natural water temperature and heated water temperature, which enjoy great value. There are 2 large restaurants, and the rest of the outdoor restaurants, bars, and salons are so many that they have stayed for a few days and have not found out. The big restaurant buffet has a cabaret show in the evening, and the male and female singers play piano. There are tabloids in the hotel, 6 languages, English and American languages, and there are American and British versions. Service staff gentlemanly, friendly and friendly. Different restaurants with a variety of flavors to choose from.
5star hotel offering 4 different restaurants.Japanese,Maderian,Italian and International.Standard of food was excellent in all restaurants. My only small grouch would be ,as ever food in the main restaurant is always warm and not hot.Although you can get fresh omelette an breakfast which was good. Our room was great with our own large veranda and loungers overlooking the sea and pool, perfect.Only other grouch was the nightly entertainment was average singing or a bit of dancing groups.95% of the staff were very friendly and very generous with drink measures.Would defo recommend.
I do like this hotel because of the price and location. The pool is good and the view is amazing. Unfortunately my room was on 2nd floor and the main front door to the building start making noise very early morning, while people start walking, it's badly effects sleeping. Also the breakfast for 10 EUR could be more improved by choices and for 3 times I have been eating it I never had it warm, always cold.
The hotel is in Lido area with plenty of restaurants and small super markets near by. Only 3 mins walk to bus top where can bring you to City Center €1.95 single one way and airport. €5 single one way, €8 return. Walking to City center is about 20-30mins. Only 10mins walk to Forum Madeira shopping mall. Breakfast is good with many choices of fruit, salad, yogurt, ham, eggs, bread, cereals. Indoor, outdoor pool and gym are nice too. We stay in sea and swimming pool view studio with kitchenette. The balcony is wonderful.
Staffs are polite and patient. Only one con, no air conditioning in 31 degrees. Only have a ceiling fan.
We did really enjoy our stay. Our room was lovely and clean, and the staff very friendly. I do however encourage the management to pay more attention to maintenance details before it’s too late; the hotel is on the cusp of customers legitimately challenging its five-star status. Just maintenance details but lots of them for example worn-out terrace and pool furniture, broken decking light fixtures around the pool, blown light bulbs in common spaces, worn-out/broken spa equipment and more. It’s these details that really define a proud five-star hotel vs. a hotel slowly moving towards a change of ownership. It just needs a manager to walk around with more critical eyes and get these jobs done before the start of the next main season, before it becomes too overwhelming for a hotel of this size.

BBb.88Overall great stay and we'll likely be back next time we visit Madeira.
Great location close to lots of restaurants and bars, and bus stops. It's not too far to walk to the city center and there's lots to see on the way there, too.
The rooms were clean, shampoo etc. was provided and there were even extra blankets which we were very grateful for as it can be chilly at night.
What we did not enjoy that much was the breakfast, as both restaurants serve about the same food and it was the same every morning. The taste was ok but we probably won't add breakfast the next time we stay, or not for all days.
Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, however, the hotel appeared to be understaffed, meaning we'd have to wait quite a bit to receive service, e.g., at the reception, and staff seemed stressed at times.
Lovely spacious comfortable room. A variety of restaurants to choose from and pools to relax in with jacuzzi.Spa facilities available. A very good location with transport on your doorstop to get you to Funchal. The staff are very friendly and very helpful.
Exceptional views and such welcoming helpful staff. Buffet breakfasts and terrace superb. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Pool rather cold but it was January and the outlook over the sea compensated. Also a very friendly, good value pool snack bar. The spa area was very small and treatments expensive. On a previous visit a few years ago, before refurbishment , there was a jacuzzi which was very welcome on cooler days in particular. Easy access to public transport to Funchal and pleasant walks along the sea front. We thoroughly recommend this hotel. Special thanks to all staff especially Elspeth.
This was a good hotel find for those on a budget. It was also one of the only places that didn’t have the crazy policy of completely nonrefundable bookings for an island where planes may have issues landing due to weather conditions. Service was good and the room was comfortable with a fridge which is useful. The only thing that bothered us is that i paid for an oceanview room but got a partial view with construction cranes. The view from some of the rooms is not the best, lots of construction currently around the hotel and the hotel should be more upfront about this. I could see in the future the view from our room 712 may not even exist as there is a building being built there. Breakfast was decent, nothing special. The rooftop is very nice for drinks in the evening for sunset.
Well as a previous contribute has said I would ignore some of the negative reviews. What were people expecting The Ritz! We found the staff very friendly and helpful. Made better when we were given a free upgrade to a suite which came with two balconies. We found our room clean and spacious though bit disappointed you had to pay for the safe, however the fridge came in useful!. As vegetarians we had no problem with the food which is served as a buffet. We also made use of the dinner deal which allowed you to purchase 3 evening dinners for 84 Euros each. The hotel offers a courtesy mini bus however we found that you can purchases a bus token/pass which was really convenient (bus stop near by) and cheep at 1.30 euro a trip. Would recommend and would come again.
GGuest UserWe spend 8 days at the apartments and loved it. The rooms are a nice size, with most of what you need to self cater. We would often pop down to the mini supermarket/bar/café for a coffee/ pastry/beer/wine/water... The staff were friendly and the rooms made up every day, with towels changed every other day and bedding every 4th day. The aforementioned was very clean. A nice walk into Funchal or along the promonaide in the other direction. Walking to the far end of Funchal was about 25 minutes. Beds were single beds, but easy to push together. You get pots, pan, plates, kettle, cork screw, cutlery, but don't forget washing up liquid and cloth. Small gel and shampoo supplied. Beach towels were extra to hire. Rooms have no air conditioning, not that we needed it. It felt pretty special in Funchal with everything Christmas still on display and all lit up in the evening until Sunday 8th Jan when it was all packed away. Hired a car from Madpoint (Recommend them!!) In the local shopping mall, for a couple of days which allows you to visit most of the island. The apartments were really good value. Overall an excellent experience
Good points. Views are amazing. Staff helpful and hardworking. Restaurant was very good. Lots of choice and tables cleared quickly. Dine out option a positive. We went twice to Mama Mia and ate from the special menu and it was superb. Beautifully presented and nice atmosphere. Staff here were also excellent. Lunch at pool bar good value and once again great good. Plenty of sunbeds so no need to rush in the morning. Bad points. Room was tired, dated and bland. Very much in need of a refurbish. Furniture was awful. Chipped, cheap and not of any decent standard. Toilet toll holder fell off the wall on day 1 and eventually on day 4 I had to report as housekeeping didn’t. Was fixed straightaway. Rug in room was stained and old. Not pleasant. Ghastly mirrored walls in the bathroom. We’re not all Kate Moss. It’s something I never want you to see again. The hotel ambassador visited the room and agreed with the poor stsndard of the room. Explained the hotel was being refurbished. As an apology sent fruit and wine to the room which was a nice gesture. However the room should have not been occupied like this. Certainly nowhere close to what we envisioned. Sun deck was a mass of grey concrete. Lots of attention needed here. One of the rails into the pool roped off as wobbly. Was like that the whole week. Lots of broken concrete. However with a bit of refurbish and maybe a bit of colour as it is so bland it would be worth a revisit. Jet2 should be aware of the above and adjust prices accordingly. Not quite a 5 star experience. The hotel ambassador was very good, apologetic and listened to our issues. A report was done.
LlynnluckyA wonderful pre Christmas trip to see the lights . This was our 5th visit to the Girassol and we had yet another fabulous time . The rooms are spotlessly clean and spacious with a sitting room and a proper bathroom , with a tub and shower. The hotel was well heated ( it gets very chilly in the evenings in December) the beds are comfortable with good linen, changed twice a week and decent towels , changed whenever you need them changing . Pool towels are provided. The food , served in the restaurant at breakfast and dinner time and by the pool at lunchtime is good quality, well cooked and hot. With a good selection of meat and fish as well as a vegetarian option. The staff are all lovely. In the evening you have a choice of two bars plus an outside terrace . The all inclusive drinks are a good range although I’m not too keen on the white wine ( the rose is much nicer ) . There are three pools outside , a large injected pool and a children’s pool next to it plus a heated adults only pool. The is also a very nice spa but you pay to use that. The hotel is set in well kept and pretty gardens , in a fantastic location near the famous Lido and beautiful promenade . The are plenty of cafes , bars and restaurants within a few minutes walk. It’s about 35 minutes easy amble into the centre of Funchal and we walked there most days and got the local bus back . It’s also a good idea to download the Bolt app as you can use their taxis wherever you are . It cost us €6.50 to go to Churchills Bay so they are much more affordable than the UK. Christmas in Funchal is magical so a visit in December is well worth it to see the Christmas market and stunning lights . The daytime temps are about 19c -22c but you will need a jacket and scarf for the evenings . There is an excellent hairdresser at the hotel too! We are already looking to go back for the 6th time in 2025.
We have just returned from a week in the Florasol. As per my title, had the room been more comfortable I would have easily given this a 5 star review. The hotel is clean and tidy, the staff work hard and the breakfast options are great. Unfortunately though every night of our holiday was ruined by the fact there was no air conditioning in the room. The daily temperatures outside were 29°-30° and very humid. The bedroom does have a ceiling fan which was nice and I'm sure this will be the reason why there aren't more complaints, but when the apartment is shared by a family of 4, 2 people end up in the lounge where we had a sofa bed and z bed. The temperature was incredible, absolutely no air flow made sleeping difficult. We had to keep the balcony door open overnight which resulted in being eaten alive by mosquitos every night!! I can understand the financial implications of an old hotel having to install air conditioning in every room but as an absolute minimum there should be fans or portable air con units in the room. I don't think I can return to this hotel on this issue alone, I can only describe my feelings toward this as disgust. Other than that, the hotel is ideally situated outside of Funchal centre in a tourist zone that has massive choice of restaurants and bars. We hired a car for 3 days, be aware the hotel does have a small car park at the rear but you need to really be returning to the hotel no later than 15. 00 if you want to secure a space or you will have to fine off street parking. With so many cars on the island this will be difficult. Madeira has seen a tenfold increase in hire cars over the last few years and it's apparent that it is causing issues. But, at least there is some provision for parking and it's free, something which alot of hotels don't provide at all which is good. Other points of note - there are only 2 small lifts for the building, quite often you will wait a while as they are in use regularly by other guests and also staff moving around the building, you may get a better view on a high floor but the view on the 5th and 6th floor is still great and it allows you to use the stairs to access the pool and restaurant on the 4th floor rather than spending time waiting for lifts that always seem to be busy and full. The pool attendant hoses down poolside every morning and works hard, however I did find the practice of hosing the sun lounger cushions bizarre, the older ones in particular just turn into a giant sponge, often at 2 or 3pm, they are still absolutely soaked and unusable. There aren't enough umbrellas on the poolside so you need to get one early, and you will see several ignorant people unnecessarily hoarding them, sometimes 2-3 umbrellas each for 2-3 beds. It's totall ridiculous, especially when they can see families with young children struggling to find shade. But at least you don't have the clowns here that reserve sunbeds at 7am then leave the hotel, the pool attendant will se
BB8864XIsharonwAs an older solo female traveller, I was very pleased at the warm welcome and attention I received from Idalina and Filipa at reception, and their ongoing help with any queries. Due to gusty winds our flight from the UK had been delayed by two hours. I felt safe on my own at this hotel, and would recommend it. There was a security guard in reception at all times. I had booked tours of the island through my travel agent, Hays Travel, who use Lido tours. Idalina explained I would have to contact them direct. I highly recommend Lido tours, they sent me a text the night before a trip confirming the meeting place in the morning, and each guide was amazing in their own way. Idalina was also extremely helpful when I had to ring down with a query later in the evening. My studio room with balcony was on the 4th floor, accessible by either of two lifts or the stairs. It was very clean, with a small kitchen, fully equipped. It was a large room with tv, ample wardrobe space, a table and chairs, dressing table and chair, and twin beds. The bathroom had a shower attachment over the bath. I had received all information upon arrival, and was pleased the restaurant was still open at 2100. The restaurant offers a buffet and as a vegetarian my choices were limited. The restaurant staff are very professional, the Gala night on Christmas Eve was very pleasant. Location wise the hotel is a 45 minute walk from Funchal. The number 1 and 2 bus taking you into town are available from the bus stop on the main road opposite the hotel, and there are many taxis available. Across the road from the hotel is a small coffee shop, and a pharmacy. A few minutes beyond this is a large three storey shopping mall with a large supermarket on the lower floor.
