The hotel is situated on a hillside above Funchal, with stunning views over Funchal and beyond. It is spacious, bright and welcoming and it is an adults only hotel. We enjoyed this aspect as there was a tranquility about the place. The room(a double), had all that you needed, it too was bright, spacious and airy. The bathroom was fine, but dated and some of the units have seen better days.I am sure now that they are part of the Barcelo Group this will be sorted in time. The facilities are good 3 pools, hot tub, spa gym. We stayed B&B and the breakfast hot/cold buffet was great and catered well for the pan-european clientele, something for everyone plus a glass of champagne if you wanted one. In addition you could request cooked to order eggs, crepes and the like. They have a snack menu that operates throughout the day, it has a reasonable selection. We ate once in the main evening AS Vistas restaurant. The choices were good. This was the only glitch for me, my main course of pork tenderloin was anything but,it was edible (I did mention it to the waiter at the time). The staff at the hotel are fantastic, friendly helpful and attentive, always pleasant. The place is spotlessly clean. Given the steep hills, I would not recommend this for people with mobility issues unless you have a hire car. We normally walked down into Funchal and Taxi back( between 6-7€ from the Avendia de Arriaga taxi rank). In the future,it may be worth considering having a shuttle bus, to ferry people up and down, I have experienced this work well in other similar locations and each guest booked outward/inward times and they paid a small fee. Just a thought. All in all a delightful stay in a good hotel with a peaceful ambiance, great staff, plenty of breakfast choices and panoramic views down to the sea. Great.
