Castanheiro Boutique Hotel

From the moment we stepped into this boutique hotel we loved it. We were warmly greeted and welcomed throughout our stay. We stayed at another hotel on the water prior to moving to this hotel and wished we had stayed here the entire time. The hotel is located in a district that thrives with the energy of the locals and tourists. Highly recommend the spa services. They will spoil you in comparison to US spas. Totally recommend. We will be back.

Hotel is a gem! Perfect location if you like to find nice restaurants, shopping places, seaside, museums and other services next to your hotel. Very welcoming and beautiful atmosphere and friendly staff. The breakfast was best ever with amazingly large selection of fresh local fruits, self baked bread and all that you can imagine to wish. Pool area at the top of the building was very attractive too. We will certainly come back to beautiful Madeira and choose Castanheiro Boutique Hotel again.

After a disappointing holiday at the White Rocks hotel in Lassi , Kefalonia in June this year , it’s been a pleasure to have had a weeks holiday at the Castanheiro Boutique hotel . We booked this hotel based on reviews and location and we were not disappointed , we met up with our friends Sue and Steve who had already had a weeks holiday in another hotel on the island .The hotel itself was a mixture a modern an traditional ,the bedrooms were large and comfortable , ours looked out onto the street outside but it was fairly quiet , lovely bed ,brilliant shower , plenty of cupboards and large screen television. Breakfast and dinning areas were spotless inside and out , large bar area and reading areas . We did not use the rooftop pool or bar area but we had a look and the view was fantastic . As regards the food at this hotel I would give it ten out of ten , breakfast consisted of dried fruits ,fresh fruits ,cereals , help yourself cooked , toast , cakes etc or you could order cooked fresh food by the chef , lots of tea , coffee ,fruit juice. Evening meals were a treat , three course , soups etc , varieties of meat , fish , rice and vegetables and lastly some really good deserts , a bottle of house white was about 17 euros and a beer about 4 euros ,excellent service . The bar served some good inexpensive drinks and most nights there was musical entertainment . The hotel itself is about a fifteen minute walk to the main shopping centre an water front ,this was our fourth visit to the island but it’s still worth going up in the cable car or a visit to the market place to see the flowers/ vegetables/ fruits and fish and to have a coffee above. Funchal has changed a lot over the years bot it’s not lost it’s old world charm . As regards coming back never say never and if we did we would definitely stay at the Castenhiero hotel again.

From the minute we walked into the hotel we knew it was special. The unique layout is part of its charm. Our room was a delux double with balcony. It had solid wood floors a huge bed with pillow menu and the shower in the en-suite was amazing. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Everywhere was spotless and the sun bed terrace and lap pool on the roof with bar and snacks had amazing views of Funchal. The Spa could be used by all guests only the treatments were payable. Nothing was too much trouble the buffet breakfast had everything we could wish for. We were half board and had a different choice of menu everyday. We could order from the a la carte menu for a supplement. The restaurant staff were amazing, just the best. A perfect hotel for a perfect getaway. Are we going back? Oh yes.

We first stayed here in August 2023 and loved it so much we came back in August 2024. There are so many wonderful things about this hotel, I’ll try to remember them all! The food is absolutely fantastic. We stayed half board during both stays and the breakfast buffet is great with loads of options and you can also have eggs and crepes cooked the order. The evening meal is also wonderful, three courses served in the lovely courtyard or equally lovely restaurant. It’s a treat to be able to eat here every night and we came back a size bigger! The downstairs bar is lovely for a pre or post dinner drink and at the weekend there was live music playing. The pool area is great, a small rooftop infinity pool with fantastic views of Funchal and the sea, there’s also a hot tub. The bar restaurant by the pool is perfect for a nice lunch or drink. The spa area is another highlight, we enjoyed a morning relaxing in the hydrotherapy pool and sauna and during our first stay we had a wonderful massage. During our first stay we had a lovely double room but during our second we had a balcony over looking the courtyard which was lovely to sit on. The rest of the hotel is also stylishly decorated and full of great art. And last but certainly not least the staff are fantastic. The service is outstanding and they made our stay a pleasure and ensured that we will definitely come back!

Exceptional hotel,we absolutely loved everything about our stay. Excellent location for exploring the old town of Funchal and very quiet at night. Our room was big with very comfortable bed,lovely bathroom with lots of large fluffy towels. Everything spotlessly clean. All the staff are very friendly and helpful giving impeccable service always with a smile. The pool terrace is simply fabulous. The spa treatments are over and above what is expected and leave you feeling wonderful. I was delighted to be given a delicious birthday cake which delighted me. A very special hotel we hope to return to often.

Another amazing visit. Third stay at the Castanheiro and will hopefully be back for a fourth in a few years time. This is the perfect place to relax and standards are as high as ever. Made to feel very welcome when checking in and given our usual room with balcony views overlooking the sea and the mountains. Hotel is spotlessly clean, rooftop pool is a delight and breakfast is plentiful and varied. The courtyard for eating breakfast is so relaxing. Staff care greatly about making the Castanheiro experience luxury in every way they can. Many of the staff seem to be the same staff as on previous visits which also tells you something about working for this hotel. It’s position in the old town is great for so many local restaurants. Looking forward to our next visit.
