Friendly and helpful staff. Mild stains found on couch’s fabric. Hot/cold water unsteady.

Really nice stay with family. Good facilities, pools and outdoors. Food and drinks really good and a lot of variety. Staff excellent, really nice and available. The rooms starts showing need for modernisation.

The cleaning staff did not really top up the things in the room and the animators didnt really pull people into activities. The energy from the animation team was low. However the pool is nice and if looking for peace and quite its a nice place. However, the place is largely occupied by older people and is a rather quite place. So it may not be the place to come with kids

The rooms could definitely do with a refurb worn carpets & also what appeared to be chips or chunks missing from the floor tiles? The bed wasn't comfortable at all too hard & it took a bit of getting used to.no pillow protectors room was conveniently located with a full sea view which was vital in producing the most relaxing experience & was very tranquil just listening to the waves crashing in the sea against the rocks making you snooze like a baby so picturesque & relaxing sitting out on the balcony or just lazing in bed with the windows open where a lovely cool breeze would fill the room with the most wonderful air on quite humid days If I'd have known that the hotel was crammed full mainly of french tourists I wouldn't have booked & with good reason some were in large groups & were extremely noisy & rude they must have almost drunk all of the Royal's wine & they ate everything in sight even the coffee machines ran dry now I've seen obesity in the U.S. but these guests at the Royal were Gluttonous there was a lovely looking lot of huge prawns one evening loads of them I thought I'll have some soup or something then I'll try those well by the time I went to grab one they were gone in a flash thanks to those french guests It's an all-inclusive establishment & with free booze on offer all day every day there are those who're abusing how much is being consumed & I think there should be a review & a further limit imposed to stop those affecting others who drink in moderation & can contain themselves too many are getting drunk taking full advantage of the flow of free alcohol & causing a nuisance to other guests The food was much the same day to day & the offer of trying 2 other restaurants was a complete waste of time at the so called italian the margherita pizza was covered in a really overpowering & strong creamy cheese I didn't know the name of & I couldn't taste any tomatoes in it & the bruschetta was as hard as a brick the bolognese had no tomatoes in it just beef & spaghetti that was all & in the Madeiran Botanic restaurant the scabbardfish & the beef skewer are only worth mentioning which were average at best.the cottage cheese was so different to what it is in the UK the Madeiran one was smooth & too strong for my liking but hey sometimes you have to try different foods & not everything can please everyone I get that of course Receptionists need better trained as I & other guests were given wrong shuttle bus timings It's a very steep walk down to where the pool bar is situated near to the bottom of the cliff so not ideal at all for anyone with mobility difficulties if you're planning on making full use of what the hotel has to offer

The staff were Very atencious to us. Our staying there was very satisfactory!!! The facilities were clean, and good. The food was also very delicious!! Our bedroom was ready when we arrived! The recepcionist was I hope webcam stay there next year again!! I totally recomend this hotel for your next trip.

Very clean, pleasant hotel and 5* with everything. Friendly, helpful staff who were always available to help with anything you needed to do or know. The shuttle bus to Funchal could be busy, but the local No 1 or 2 bus went straight to the centre. Our room was very pleasant, overlooking the sea with a balcony to enjoy the views.
