Occidental Fuengirola

Have just arrived home following a 3 day stay with my friend to celebrate my 50th birthday. Hotel was exceptional. Rooms were clean and well equipped. Beds were made each day and towels replenished. The communal areas are clean and the decor was lovely. We stayed bed and breakfast. Lots of breakfast choices, something for everyone. Omelettes were made freshly on order. We hired towels. €10 deposit for each towel, returned at end of stay. These can beach aged every 3 days free of charge. Location was brilliant! So close to the beach, literally across the road. We could hear the waves from our room. Hotel was quiet. No disturbance. Lovely atmosphere. We were left a bottle of fizz and two glasses in our room with a welcome note, which I thought was a lovely touch. Would definitely recommend staying at this wonderful hotel. (And we got to meet my idol “Louis Theroux” during our stay which made our holiday even better!) Thank you!!!

What was good: 1. The hotel is well-situated with convenient transportation options, making it easy to get around Fuengirola. 2. Dinners: Although the selection isn’t huge (as other reviewers have pointed out), the quality is undeniably high. There’s always a choice of well-prepared meat, fish, and tasty garnishes. 3. If you value peace and quiet after a day out, you’ll love that there’s no blaring music or over-the-top animation shows. You can actually enjoy a calm evening in your room or on the balcony without disturbance. What I didn't like: 1. “Sea view” disappointment: Be warned - the so-called sea view is largely blocked by two tall apartment buildings. If you’re booking for the view, double-check the room location before paying extra. 2. Tiny pool area & chaotic sunbed situation: I knew the pool area was small from other reviews, but I wasn’t prepared for **how** small. It opens at 9:30, but people start queuing from 9:00. You have to spend half an hour waiting just to grab a decent sunbed!! Why? Because the hotel is surrounded by tall buildings, so much of the limited pool area is in the shade for part of the day. If you don’t get in early, you’ll either be stuck in the shadows, far from the pool, or without an umbrella (and yes, not every sunbed has one). My personal breaking point: one morning, I got up early, queued for 30 minutes, finally secured great sunbeds, left them for just 20 minutes (well within the allowed 30), and came back to find someone had rearranged my spot and taken my umbrella. To my shock, the pool staff sided with her, telling me not to disturb her—despite her being the one who created the problem! Unfortunately, all this unpleasantness boils down to the fact that there simply aren’t enough sunbeds for the number of guests. If you want to relax by the pool without stress, this is not the hotel for you.

Everything was absolutely brilliant, great choice at breakfast, very helpful and pleasant staff. Super location. Very comfortable beds. One tiny downside was the wait for drinks after 9pm was slow - just not enough employees around to serve you, we didn’t let this ruin our stay - it’s more feedback of a tweak to improve the overall experience Would highly recommended Thanks

We have visited this hotel several times and compared to others where friends have stayed, nothing comes near it for quality. The food, service, cleanliness and general experience is excellent. The only downside is the lack of pool in the winter months, however, the gym is well equipped. Will definitely be returning again in 2026.

Fourth time in two years we’ve been. Keep looking at other hotels in the area, but were drawn back because the service, rooms and food are so good, the rooms are perfect, cleaned every day, fresh towels, coffee and laundry change. The breakfast is out of this world, fresh fruit, meats, pastries, bread, a lovely woman who cooks omelettes. I guess if you have dinner there every night it might get monotonous, but we tend to eat maybe twice in two weeks, and it’s great. Good hot food, plenty of choice. Location is great, opposite the beach, brilliant restaurants nearby ten minute walk into the centre of town. What makes this hotel is the staff. In two years of going, it seems like it’s the same staff, which I guess means it’s a good place to work. We go in November and February due to work commitments, so it’s fairly quiet. A few golfers, but not crowds of people, mainly older English, or at the weekends Spanish - not a criticism, means it’s got a good local reputation. It’s clean, quiet, friendly, and just a lovely hotel for a holiday,
