We arrived at the hotel @ 14.45, the receptionist albeit acknowledged us carried on doing what she was doing, and when she did ask what we wanted promptly told us no check in until 15.00 and suggested we take a seat for 15 minutes, granted we read this on the booking page but didn't realise it was a definite strict rule. When we did get into our room we noticed only one coffee sachet, 3 tea bags and 3 milk, we were staying for 2 nights - we went back to reception and were given a couple more of each. The first night drew down the bed to find the pillowcase dirty, as it was late I waited until morning to raise this with the front desk, they did apologise and assured us it would be changed that day - which it was. The bed we had was not the comfiest, quite firm ( we are used to a simba memory foam though) In the morning we went for breakfast, the only waitress there took our room number and told us to sit on any of the small tables in the window ? yet as other guests arrived any table was allowed? Throughout breakfast the waitress was clearing away dirty plates, then going to the juices/glasses and rearranging them without washing her hands - cross contamintating them as putting her finger inside the rim of the glasses. At one point all the breads, hams, cheeses etc were removed, we as well as others hadn't visited that area of the buffet yet they did not return with any fresh or topped up plates of them, the prepared fruit bowl was also empty and not topped up this was at 8.00am - service is 7.00-9.30! While in line for the hot buffet the waitress moved us out of the way as she wanted to explain to another customer what was on the display (gluten free) we stood there like spare parts until she decided, i found this rude and felt she should of waited like the rest of us. The tables were being wiped using the same cloth that the chairs were being wiped with - maybe a little training is needed in hygiene here. That evening we decided to eat out, however on return sat in the bar/reception area for a drink, sadly this was not pleasant due to the evening receptionist smoking at the back door, the smell was wafting in - really quite unpleasant. All this said I do have to praise the evening staff in the dining room, on the 2nd evening we ate they were super helpful, couldn't do enough, they explained the menu, told us the soups, desserts etc, took our order and promptly served our drinks and foo which was piping hot, cooked perfectly and tasted delicious, If i was in the area again I would definitely dine here. So with everything said, yes I would stay again if in the area as the hotel itself is conveniently located for the Kelpies, Helix etc, however i do feel its a overnight stop kind of place rather than a destination hotel, lots of business/workers seemed to be using it more than holiday sightseeing people.

We booked this hotel for 5 nights as a base to explore Falkirk, Edinburgh and the area. Friendly welcome on arrival, rooms clean, serviced daily and everything worked. Breakfast choice was a bit limited but good. We ate there the first night, having tried the menu, did not think of going elsewhere for the subsequent nights. A good selection which changes daily, good size portions and very good quality. Simply could not be beaten for value. (The menu is £16 for 2 courses and £20 for three.) Drinks at reasonable prices too. The staff in the hotel, especially restaurant, were all very friendly and helpful. It does get busy in the evenings (many locals come here just to eat) so worth reserving a table in advance
