My husband booked this for a late wedding anniversary treat. After reading some of the reviews on here i wondered if it was the same hotel weve visited many times. Yes it is we had a fantastic time the staff couldn't do enough for you. My husband had ordered champagne in the room while he was checking in samantha ran up to the room to make sure everything was ok. We ate both nights at restaurant the food was delicious, breakfast was lovely. Karen and samantha on reception were great. Ben served us breakfast each morning. Caroline kept us entertained in the bar at night. I would definitely recommend this hotel. We were in spruce room, it was the disabled room with wet room.

Staff were wonderful and made our stay. The grounds were beautiful to wander around as we got to check in early. Follow the river and walk around the grounds. Our room was lovely. Clean, big and marvellous views. Don’t know if we just happen toget lucky with our visit but after reading the previous reviews it didn’t happen to us. Food was good no complaints. The ladies behind the desk and bar and ended up serving were great . We hope to be back.

The staff were lovely and couldn’t fault them, this is not based on the staff at all but the food at the restaurant was horrible and overpriced. The soup tasted like it was a bolognaise sauce and the steak felt like cutting into an actual cow!! My husband had lamb which was made to look fancy but wasn’t nice to cut either and was surrounded by olives. The room felt like it had fleas within the bedding as things felt like it was biting us and when the lights were off bugs were jumping on our phone screen light when checking the time and there were specks of mould round the window frames and the bath. The door in our room was so stiff to open and the door was dirty on the outside and in.

In the heart of Robert Burns history is this little piece of history. I would advise you to take the walk around the grounds following the crystal clear lake around to the hermitage where the poet penned some of his famous lines. Previous reviews I read worried about my room being tired in decor but found it well furnished & well kept. Yes the building is old it's a historic place so some floors are uneven etc . There is fishing on the river if that's something you would like to do. Amazing nature around the grounds unspoilt area. The staff were really friendly and accommodating and the food was lovely. Would definitely return, we were booked in Hawthorn with a lake view. The only thing if your a light sleeper is you are above the games room if people are playing pool at night. Also if you need a socket take an extension by bed lead (1 cpap user) .

After staying previously, several times, a few years ago and raving about the place, sadly this time I couldn’t give the same high praise.. Can’t fault the comfy bed and good nights sleep but the positivity stays there. The shower and hairdryer was from the last century I’d guess, the breakfast staff were not invested in making the breakfast experience a nice one and the breakfast itself was not inspiring. It’s a beautiful old building within lovely grounds but the inside is drab. Sadly, despite many happy family memories here, I can’t imagine I’ll be back 😔

We stayed here for one night only as a stop off in January. The Christmas decorations were still up which gave it a really warm embracing feeling. The building is beautiful as is the inside. It’s not been modernised at all which was nice to see to be honest. Because it’s very old inside it does have a musty smell in some areas though. There wasn’t very many people around when we were there so we had the pool room all to ourselves that night , it’s quite an eerie room that one though, as are the toilets just off of it, we kept hearing noises in there! The whole place has the eerie vibe to be honest but I think it’s just how old it was. There’s so much history and each room tells you something about the building. We had a 3 course meal whilst there, not the best food I’ve ever eaten but also not the worst. Price was £35.50 each. Drinks just averaged price too. The stairways to the rooms were basic, smelled a little fusty and not decorated for a while. The room again the same, very basic inside, bathroom looked like it had a bit of blood on our wall, but other than that it was ok. Again not decorated for a long time, cracks in ceiling, windows need a good clean, beds weren’t all that comfy if I’m honest. But for one night I didn’t complain. This hotel could be made to be absolutely amazing and really elegant but it would need a fortune spending on it. It’s like it’s stuck in a time warp from many years ago, but I actually liked it like that. Maybe a good scrub up would do it justice!

Repeat visit. We go every year with a car club. This year, 41 of us stayed at the hotel, it was exclusive to us.we know what we are getting at this hotel, yes, it’s tired, however for us, it is in a secluded location. This year we upgraded our room which was actually very nice with nice modern bathroom. Evening meals were very good, breakfast ok. However it is the friendly staff who do make this a great place. If you are considering a driving holiday and drive with a bit of gusto, consider this region. Some great driving routes, various passes, valleys and hills but mostly very quiet roads. I drove some of the passes twice it was so quiet
