Maldron Hotel South Mall Cork City

The room was lovely and had the basics of what we needed. The only downfalls were the window being in the corner and the heating system not working as the room was still cold but everything else was perfect for a night. Right in the city centre so you don’t need buses or taxis for exploring the city.

After ALOT of research we decided to book this hotel based on location. The reviews had been mixed so I wasn’t sure what to expect. The location was perfect for us we were going to an event which was finishing late and wanted somewhere central. This was ideal. The hotel itself felt a bit claustrophobic. I specially asked for a room with a window because I had read some reviews about not having one. We were on flour 2 and were given a room with blocked out windows which looked out onto HVAC machines. So we had no fresh air. Thank goodness we had AC. The bathroom was okay, the toilet was so high off of the ground even for my 5’11 husband. The grout in the shower was mouldy, the shower head was broken, the towel rack was coming off the wall, the floor had hair on it. I didn’t like that at all. We didn’t eat anything at the hotel, the menu was basic and expensive. However after our event we did come back mostly everything was closed, but the lovely barman did serve us which we were delighted about. The ladies on reception were helpful, but could be friendlier. PARKING - I couldn’t find any helpful info on this and in end contacted the hotel help line. Here are the details. Q city hall parking - get your ticket on entry, when you check out of the hotel you redeem your ticket at reception, we paid €16 for 24 hours instead of €48. The lady on reception took payment, she then gave us 2 tickets, at the carpark you validate ticket 1, then you insert ticket 2 as “payment” it was easy and worked perfectly. We checked out at 11 but left our car there until we were ready as we had paid for the 24 hours so didn’t have to leave until 2ish. Overall, this hotel is in a great location, but that’s the only good thing about it. Oh I will say we did think the bed was comfortable.

A clean and comfortable hotel. Rooms were spacious and well equipped with hair dryer and iron. Location is perfect for exploring the city. The staff were wonderful- super helpful! We enjoyed breakfast in the cafe at the front of the hotel, the French toast was a hit! We didn’t dine in the main restaurant as we wanted to try the local eating spots.

Aweful place, sitting in reception there appeared to be a lot of “business” being transacted. Came back at 1am and the people working seemed some like they handled prisoners rather than paying guests. Horrendous.
