We had a funeral in Ojai and found the rates there exorbitant. Santa Paula was very nearby, so we checked the hotels there out. The Glen Tavern Inn was very reasonable, and, as a bonus, an historic property. Built in early 1900s, it was near the train station and became a mecca for Hollywood celebrities including John Wayne, Carole Lombard, Houdini and Rin-Tin-Tin, among others. The new owners, btw, are not sure which rooms they stayed in, except that Rin-Tin-Tin stayed in a suite. According to what I've read, the third floor of the inn started out as a gambling hall and ******* and was parted out into rooms later. We also heard that it is supposedly haunted. Our room was 219. Interesting features: no house phone; the bathroom is tiny, but works. You cannot be really fat to use it, though, the shower is about 2.5' x 2.5'. We think the bathroom was added in a remodel, there is a 4” step up into it and it is a big trip hazard. I would recommend reflective tape or lights or something, both my husband and I woke in the night and nearly killed ourselves tripping on it. (They have warnings all over the place about it but at 2:30 am who remembers that on the way to the toilet?). The closet has a deadbolt which you have to be INSIDE the closet to use. The bed has a pillow top on the mattress, but it is still rock hard. Hotel might look into memory foam for the beds, most of us are spoiled on those now. Downstairs is an Italian restaurant (new) but the lobby/front desk look right for the Craftsman era. There are framed movie posters, newspapers (Titanic Sinks) and photos on the walls in every hall. The third floor has a salon on the stair landing with sofas. The place is really quite charming with few drawbacks. Parking is in the back. The hotel sign on the street corner is obscured by trees, hard to find. We happened to arrive on a weekend where a number of streets were blocked off for a classic car show. The show was great but it was hard to find the hotel because of the blocked off roads. The hotel apologized for the confusion. ABOUT ROOM 220: First, we retired at 9:30, having had a very long drive. Woke at 11:30, some guy was talking. We drifted off, woke at 2:30 am, guy was STILL TALKING. We think he was talking to somebody else but couldn't hear anything distinct. Room 220, we thought he was in your room. We tapped on the wall. He didn't shut up. My husband pounded on the wall. He continued to talk. I dressed and headed upstairs to knock on the door above us as my husband thought sound was traveling through old air conditioning ducts. On the way I heard my husband bellow ”SHUT THE F**K UP!' We apologize for the language. When I arrived at the room I thought was above us I heard the toilet flush. There was no more talking. So, room 220, if you thought it was a ghost, it wasn't. THIS INN HAS CHARACTER YOU WILL NOT FIND in any modern hotel or motel. And if you are more sensitive than we are, you might actually

This is a wonderful Inn located in the very quiet edge of the main drag through this quaint town within walking distance to a few restaurants & shops. My first impression was it's very safe there. I never once felt that anywhere in Ojai was unsafe, especially at the inn. I routinely went out to the pool alone late at night, so it meant a great deal to feel that safe! The room was nice, very clean, & had great comfy furniture. Parking was right at the front door so that was awesome. We're a very picky group to impress, but this was a very nice stay for us. The customer service must be mentioned. Every contact with staff members throughout the week was a great experience. They were a wealth of knowledge to us Ohioans visiting Ojai for the first time. And they took care of our every need. I'd certainly go again to stay there as it was just an all around great time for us. Highly recommend the Casa Ojai Inn!
We stayed in The Double Queen Bungalow room number 14. The pictures ARE NOT HONEST. They purposely made it look WAYYYYYYY BIGGER with manipulative editing of photos. So that’s a VERY Los Angeles slumlord type of thing to to. Exactly what we drove away from but here we are. The bed linens + pillow covers “looked clean” but smelled like stale dirty water + dirt & sweat not being properly cleaned & sanitized off the sheets from PREVIOUS STRANGERS. That was so gross to me. No excuse. I killed 4 spiders throughout the night that I noticed pop up all along my bed! Hell no. The shower didn’t work. We turned it on, it filled up the tub instantly & no matter what way we flipped the old (unmarked) switch for the drain, it WOULD NOT DRAIN. And the bath was clearly not cleaned before we got there as it had small bugs, dirt, dust, and hairs come up to the surface of the water that clogged up the tub. So we had to go back home DIRTY after all our hikes. Gross! The chairs & table right outside our window. FOR OUR BUNGALOW was taken over by three men who literally just rudely took it over while they had their own entire larger table for THEIR BUNGALOW. They LITERALLY FACED OUR WINDOW & had all these devices & phones FACING US. 2 women alone. They also had a big dog that was BARKING (violates policy) that prevented us from being able to take our senior dog outside to the restroom and stayed stuck in our rooms until those men left! Our senior dog turning 17 is THE REASON we came here! That was super disturbing & ugly to me. That’s not very Ojai. I wish the staff could have directed them to their own table but they did nothing. It’s not my job to make sure guests feel safe & have privacy they paid for. I feel like we are owed some of our money back for that but we didn’t want to make it a big deal as it we didn’t want more of our time ruined with possible retaliation or rudeness from the staff. So that’s why I’ll leave this honest review instead. There’s also a dude doing ****** in the open STEPS AWAY FROM YOUR ROOM on the sidewalk across the way. So we are definitely coming back to Ojai but NEVER coming back to this hotel. They need to lower their prices for sure. I feel like they care less about ppl who book less expensive (still too expensive) rooms.
We decided to go to Ojai for my wife's birthday on March 22, 2023. She thought it would be fun to stay in a place that was built the year she was born and so did I. The online photos and aesthetic are admittedly cool, but that where it ends. I get really peeved with a too cool for school” attitude in restaurants and other establishments in the hospitality space. That's this place. But aside from that vibe, there are HUGE issues with this “hotel” (motel really), chief of which are the PAPER THIN WALLS. Next is the bathroom. Remember. This renovation was done in 2020. So with Covid, wear and tear should be minimal by early 2023 when we visited. The bathroom door is made of particle board which was completely swollen and ruined by water damage from the shower that features a fitted glass wall that only covers half the stall. As a result water sprays all over the wall and floor and even if you try to use the bath mat, it's completely soaked after a shower. Poor, impractical design. The Daiken brand AC was also odd. I've used many mini-split systems, but this one did not feature a remote that operated as a thermostat. Sure, it had a temperature setting, but no readout out of what temperature the room was CURRENTLY at, so there is no way to know where to set the temp relative to that. The in-room coffee and tea consists of a kettle and instant coffee. No Nespresso or other coffee service found in other boutique hotels of this price range. I assumed they were encouraging us to come to the lobby to enjoy their coffee ”service” which features paper cups (okay fine) but no lids. Crazy. And Like seriously - do you think people aren't going to want to take their coffee away or back to the room? Where’s the kids?! Oh, and as a cherry on the top, add bad WiFi that only worked part of the time. Good thing our t-mobile data devices worked there. A cheap, ill-conceived cosmetic renovation does not a boutique motel make. Others have mentioned all of these things in prior reviews, so l'm not saying anything new here. Listen to them, and us. I don't know if there are better options in Ojai, but I know you should avoid the Capri.
We recently spent two nights in Ojai at Caravan Outpost, and absolutely loved every minute. The communications coming from them was fantastic. We were texted when our trailer was ready with instructions on which trailer was ours, how to get in to the trailer and phone numbers to contact if we needed anything at all. We arrived, parked on the street, and quickly found our beautiful airstream trailer tucked in some trees with a table and two chairs with an umbrella out front. We settled in and walked the grounds. Everything was spotlessly clean, there are games, cornhole and chairs out in the middle of the common area. There are bicycles with helmets available to guests and the bathrooms and shower rooms for guests too were spotlessly clean. Mr. B used the shower rooms as our shower in the trailer was to short for him. He said they were so clean and had everything he needed. Being short, I was able to use the shower in our trailer. Now to the trailer, so fun! It was clean, everything was well taken care of. On the dining table was a retro record player with some vinyl to enjoy. The bathroom had everything we needed and the bedroom was cozy and the bed so comfortable. The air conditioner worked well and we were more than comfortable in the trailer. Leilani, the camp host isn't on site all the time, we saw her both mornings and she was so friendly as was all the staff when on site. Leilani offered recommendations of things to do and places to eat. We had a ball, and loved every minute of our resort camping experience. Parking is on the street and never had a problem getting parking. We would absolutely stay again when in the area. Located on a side street in Ojai and easy to walk into town. We walked the bike path one evening to get dinner, and walked back through town, even stopping a few doors down at a Brewery and Winery to have an after dinner drink before turning in for the night.
We've been wanting to stay here for years, so after a few days at Bacara and San Ysidro Ranch we ended our 5 day getaway at the Ojai Valley Inn. An extraordinary resort with beautiful grounds, well appointed rooms and a genuinely friendly and authentic staff that appreciate you as guest. Simply wonderful hosts! It's easy to fill your daily agenda with so many right on property. Sporting activities, art, self awareness works shops and a relaxing spa. I had an extraordinary treatment with Lily and she's reason enough for a return visit. Numerous dining options, too. We enjoyed in room dining, the Cafe and The Oak Restaurant on 2 occasions. A very special call out to our server, Rudy and restaurants manager, Bobby. We encountered an unfortunate situation during our dinner (no fault of the restaurant!) and they personally handled us with compassion, empathy and respect. You went above and beyond any expectations one might have in similar circumstances. My wife and I will be eternally grateful for you both! Thank you. The front desk and concierge were pleasant and efficient. Always on hand when needed. Thank you Myranda for your time and kindness. We look forward to returning soon!
The hotel is in total disrepair. To start, the people at the reception were totally dirty and badly presented. Then, the room. It had a bed four feet above the floor: a dangerous setting for people that may need to go to the bathroom in the night, or just to get on and off. The room had an smelly, old, and poorly working air conditioner. I tried to open the window, no screens!! The bathroom so old, with furniture that was broken, no drawers could be open. The rug of the room was super dirty and the two chairs that they had were so dirty that I was concerned to set on them. The room is supposed to have a desk, and they did: an old desk, very dusty, small, and with no chair to bring close to it to work. The towels and pillow were old, smelly, lumpy. The breakfast was the worst that I had seen and experience. This was the worst trip I ever had, and it is a shame of this people to rent places like that. I saw the image on expedia and it looked ok. But now I know it was a set up and what they offer is very different and low quality. They should close the place!

BbeetrvlnWe recently spent two nights in Ojai at Caravan Outpost, and absolutely loved every minute.
LlittlemtnTypical HIE, nothing great. First when checking in, my profile which specifically asks for a room located near the elevator (and even though I'm a Spire Elite) the front desk clerk never acknowledged my status and proceeded to give me the furthest room from the elevator which was quite far away at the other end of the building. I think he was traumatized by Covid-19 as he was totally PPE'd up including ridiculous looking snorkeling goggles. The room was decent but many electrical outlets didn't work and overall the room was quite dark unless you went around a found all the ”mood” lighting space around the room. The bathroom has the most pathetic water spout in the sink, the kind you get in the airports that supposed work when you put your hands underneath. It didn't work well and came out in FULL force that you couldn't adjust. So if you want to brush your teen, you have to wave your hand underneath the spout, hope it ”senses” the movement and then the water blasts out and maybe it will get warm before it shuts off. It's the most poorly designed faucet I have ever used, one absolutely nobody would have in their home and most certainly should not be in the hotel. Pathetic.
GGuest UserOverall good and would stay here again. Not really anything near buy but there is a gas station. Breakfast was good and to the point for a complimentary breakfast
TTIANXIANGThe hotel is in a good location, just off Highway 1, with free parking. The room was also very clean, there was a laundry room, USD 2.00 laundry, USD 1.25 drying. There is a shopping center nearby, and you can go to the beach to eat seafood. Breakfast is served at Denny's opposite, and one of the 4 packages is good. Overall good!
GGuest UserStayed here due to the proximity to Channel Islands access and the location cannot be beat! Staff is super friendly and go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that you have a comfortable stay. Our room was clean and spacious, but the resort is showing some wear and tear from age. Our server at breakfast was excellent. Hotel could use some updating, especially compared with the Holiday Inn Express. No laundry facilities on-site, though you are able to go to the HI Express to use their single washer and dryer! I would rate the property 4 stars, but given the excellent staff, it bumps up the experience to 5 star.
GGuest UserWas expecting better for some fleeting reason but the experience was worse this time around. The managent used to be tops up until early 2021 but the manager and desk staff are cold as well as verbally innappropriate. I was so SHOCKED by the negativity and awful behavior from a larger younger woman on shift before 7am who after some nasty, totally unnecessary words to my pleasant attitude, stared at me via the office as I was leaving. She can deny it but if there's audio & video no there's heed to report her. Doing so wouldn't matter anyway. Stayed at some far worse (local) 6s and I thought (or hoped) I'd be more comfortable but... surprise! There's more but just the worst of it is being noted here. Sometimes I suspect these hotels or any other business mistreats people for the entertainment, and drama of it but its a bad trend that affects them more than the consumer, who will choose to go somewhere else and talk about what happened. Why sue them? lol just don't go back. Probably shouldn't mention this and it may not be true but I heard this hotel is planning on removing the microwaves and fridges. The Lake is nice but you have to feel safe and professionally treated by the establishment you've paid to much money to. Unreal. She had a a mask on but I heard her loud and clear, but you usually see the attitude good or bad. An average person just wants a safe place to stay with no one bothering them or unwanted grief.
GGuest UserIt is an old motel but it has been looked after really well. The rooms were clean and there was a lot of space. Not too far from the beach either. Definitely worth the price.
GGuest UserExcellent. I believe that I have said a lot already. It might be continuing to repeat what I have already, h said, however, I will add that such a well organized staff shows efficient, professional and knowledgeable guidance and support. I do believe that Mr. Taylor provides exactly that. My Praise and Gratitude to all. Thank you again. .
ZZETAOThere is a swimming pool, it seems that there is a small hot pool, there is an elevator, the room is old but the management is relatively standard and clean. Good breakfast, homemade waffles and beef burgers, a better grade than the motel's breakfast.
GGuest UserWe usually always stay at Marriott hotels but as we would be staying for over a month off and on as travelling between California and Arizona for my sons baseball needed to find somewhere affordable to stay. Was a bit apprehensive as it’s a motel and we only ever stay at hotels. Was really impressed how clean this Motel 6 was in Thousand Oaks, California and how well maintained it is. The staff is amazing and always avail if you need extra towels or toilet paper. Due to COVID there isn’t maid service but that is the same at all hotels at the moment. Paul the assistant manager was very helpful and the day manager also, did not catch his name. All the staff we encountered were very friendly. Had a noise complaint one night over a noisy neighbour and they immediately took care of it. Also thought it was really nice they let animals stay also as not many motels/hotels allow that. Would definitely go back when we travel to California again.
