It is an old-fashioned inn that was renovated from a 100-year-old merchant house. The first floor is the Handa Somen restaurant, and if you make a reservation, you can enjoy creative dishes using Handa Somen. It is one of the charm that I use it! The second floor is a lodging room, and it is a luxurious room ✨ This is an inn that you should definitely stay when traveling to Awa, such as Mt. Tsurugi!

During our road trip throughout Western Japan, we needed to spend the night after touring Kochi but before heading to Tomonoura (near Fukuyama in Northern Hiroshima Prefecture.) Looking on the map, and after extensive research, we were hopeful that Asan Kotonami would hit all the right buttons as a luxury Onsen (natural hot springs) ryokan with a mountain retreat vibe and good food. All in all, we enjoyed our stay here and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. It's about a 30 minute drive from Kotohira-gu (aka Konpira-san), which is the nearest major tourist attraction. Since we had our own car, there was not much effort in getting here, but accessibility to Asan Kotonami might be a bit more challenging if one resorted strictly to public transportation. In any case, if you're looking for something that's not a large, city hotel and is relatively luxurious, there are few (if any) other options - in fact, I'd say that Asan Kotonami might turn out to be the de-facto choice in this regard. First off, it's a gorgeous ryokan - it's in a picturesque location nestled in a mountainous area of rural Kagawa Prefecture. It's modern but done with a simplistic yet stylish Japanese aesthetic that will please many people. Unlike many luxury ryokans, however, Asan Kotonami is relatively new - it was built in 2017, meaning it is not worn down in any way. We loved the modern Japanese architecture, furnishings and decor, and the fact that it was in a remote location surrounded by nature. Thumbs up. We stayed in the ”Type F” room, which is described as a Japanese-Western room with Open-Air Bath. It's Western in that the bedroom has two beds and a couch. The ”living” area is Japanese in that you either sit on the floor, or on an oddly shaped and very low ”chair.” I guess you can call the living room being more Japanese than Western, but it's definitely Japanese in that it's a tiny room. Overall, it's uncomfortable and unusable, which was a shame, because I often need to work late at night, meaning we prefer a nice living room (for work) and a separate bedroom with sufficient noise insulation. Asan Kotonami didn't have that here, unfortunately. The room only had one sink, which is a drawback for a luxury property that was newly built less than 5 years ago. On the positive side, the open-air outdoor Onsen (natural hot springs) bath on our room terrace was fantastic, and internet was very speedy. In addition to the Onsen our room, Asan Kotonami also had among the nicest communal (gender-segregated) ”Daiyokujo” Onsen baths that we've ever experienced. It's almost Disneyland-like in that it's stylish, expansive and has several indoor and outdoor bathing options. It's possible that the property gets an abundance of the hot spring water directly from the source, because they certainly don't make any effort to preserve it. As soon as I stepped out of the changing room and even before going to the bathing area, Onsen was flowing all around me on the floor, with stylish woo
This is a fairly large hotel in Shionoe Onsen. Stayed in the pet room on the first floor. Dogs are not allowed to walk outside the room, but there are plenty of pet supplies in the room. The guest room is a Japanese-Western style room with about 6 tatami mats and 2 beds. It was spacious enough. The food was pretty good for the price. It looked beautiful and I was satisfied with the quality. Soft drinks were free and paper cups were placed for takeout to the guest room. Above all, the staff was kind and fun, and I had a fun meal. Breakfast is buffet style. The number of items is also abundant. I had a great time at the inn in the mountains.
Sanuki Onsen is a hotel located in Yasuhara Kamihigashi, Shionoe-cho, Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture. This time, the grandmother made full use of various discounts, and the two-person suite room with two meals dinner was 9,900 yen in the room! I stayed at a bargain price. On August 5th, 2022, I walked through Sanuki Kodomo no Kuni. From there, we drove to Sanuki Onsen. About 30 cars can be parked under the building and on the ground. The catchphrase is “Takamatsu no Okuzashiki”. The lobby looks like this. The large public bath is accessed from the first floor by a connecting passageway. You can take a bath until 10:30 at night and from 6:00 in the morning. Bring towels from your room. Since this day is a room on the 4th floor, I will move by elevator. When you enter the entrance, you will find yourself in a Japanese-style room. The scenery from the window is like this. The Kabagawa Dam rises in front of you. The bedroom is next door. A table is set in the next room. refrigerator. The toilet has a warm water seat. closet. Wash basin. I'm going to the public bath, so I probably won't use it, but there's a bathtub, and it seems that hot springs will come out. It's a former condominium converted into a three-room suite. Even before coming here, I saw several such resort apartments. Wi-Fi is about 10 Mbps, so it's enough. There was no slowdown during peak hours. The hot spring here is Toro Toro, it was my favorite hot spring in Shikoku. However, it is far to move about 30 meters from the main building to the hot spring building. From there, you have to go down the stairs to get to the public bath. The first open-air bath is nearby. However, to get to the second open-air bath, you have to walk another 50 meters along the connecting corridor. However, the second open-air bath was right next to the river and was very nice. It was inconvenient that there was no outlet near the bed. Dinner is served in the room. Sashimi and dessert. The main dish is tempura. Then came the duck pot. First of all, toast with draft beer and lemon chuhai. This time the meal was the cheapest course, but this is enough for my grandfather and grandmother. The next morning, I took a walk to Kabagawa Dam. After returning from a walk and sweating in the hot springs, it's time for breakfast. The breakfast venue is the restaurant on the first floor. It's a standard menu of Japanese food, mainly grilled fish that went too far (sweat;). After eating, we drove on. It is located in Shioe Onsenkyo, which is about 40 minutes by car from Takamatsu city. As the word of mouth, all the staff were kind and very likable. The hotel facilities are a bit old, but they were well cleaned and comfortable. Here, you can experience various kayaking and nostalgic experiences. Many other families were using it on the day of the stay and it was crowded. We used the BBQ plan. Not only the taste of the food, but also the BBQ unique to the scenic spot overlooking the lake is the best to enhance the deliciousness. Also, after all, the starry sky after the BBQ remains impressive. This scenery, which you can never see in the city, is highly recommended. The hot springs were good and my mind and body were healed. I would like to go again.
I used it for a day trip bath. It seems that 3/11 was closed, but I heard that it has resumed business. Bath towels are charged, but small towels are free. The shoe box at the entrance of the dressing room is small, so large shoes may have trouble storing. There is a free coin locker with a key in the dressing room, so you can rest assured that you can take a day trip bath. There are indoor baths and open-air baths. I have the impression that the open-air bath had a strong chlorine odor. The indoor bath did not smell so much chlorine. There is also a free hair dryer. It is also close to Takamatsu Airport, so it is recommended to use it before flight. Parking is also free.
