Claridge House

Claridge house is located close to Chicago History Museum and couple blocks to shoreline of Lake Michigan, many nice restaurants in walking distance and easy to Uber around. The building is old fashioned and very nice, front desk staff is very professional and friendly. I reserved a room with two queen beds, which is nice and clean with a very spacious bathroom. There is valet parking next door, expensive but kind of reasonable with the location. Overall I enjoyed my stay.

I travel often and make a point to support boutique hotels whenever I can — it’s usually a more personal, curated experience. Unfortunately, Claridge House really missed the mark. The hotel may look cute in photos, but in reality, it felt run-down and neglected. My room had a persistent, musty smell — like mold — and didn’t feel clean. The building is definitely old, which isn’t inherently bad, but in this case, it came across as shabby rather than charming. The most frustrating part of my stay, though, happened after I checked out. I accidentally left behind my toiletry bag, which contained an essential prescription. I called the hotel three days in a row to try and get help locating it. One time I was put on hold for over 40 minutes — only to be disconnected. Each time, I explained it was urgent due to the medication inside. I never received a single call back. No follow-up, no concern, no accountability. I hate leaving negative reviews, and I really wanted to like this place. But when a hotel can’t be bothered to help a guest in a time-sensitive situation, it says a lot about their priorities. Claridge House has potential, but until they overhaul their service standards and basic cleanliness, I’d recommend staying elsewhere.

I've stayed at the Claridge a few times and it does not disappoint. From the moment you walk in it feels like you've stumbled into a cozy hidden cove. Charm pours from every corner and the lobby has warmth that is instantly felt. There is a complementary happy hour from 5-6 where you can get drinks and small snacks. There are even little areas to lounge hidden right around the area. The rooms are cozy without being cramped, perfect for solo traveling or a pair. I haven't stayed in any rooms meant for more guests so I can't comment on others. Everything is clean and you get free water bottles (good for returning after a night out!). THE SHEETS. The sheets were so soft, like butter, and the pillows were perfectly fluffy. Not too much, not too little. Rooms are quiet, hallways have always been quiet. Even the elevator is charming. Breakfast at the cafe downstairs is simple but delicious. Most recently I ordered the lavender latte and it was delicious. I could lounge downstairs all day, watching people go by outside past the rows of beautiful homes. Or take a walk - tons of things are walkable from this location and I haven't ever felt unsafe. This is my experience - I love charm and cleanliness over modern updates and pristine design. I wouldn't call anything dated, as that's a negative term, but it's more like a lived in feel with character. I travel A LOT for work and for fun and do not review lightly. I'm severely picky and honestly, I'd live in this hotel if I could.

Very kind staff, clean room, quiet environment and great location. I would return to the Claridge House again on my next visit to Chicago.

Would stay again. Good value, comfy quiet cool room, dark shades, great location. Nice folks. Worth upgrading to more room - not very expensive. Elevator pretty quick, too. Grateful for the staff and the time there. Cheers.
