Hubby and I decided on a quick trip to Chennai for some shopping and found the Taz Kamar Inn online. It’s small but affordable and decent with a polished glass exterior on a narrow, bustling side road. We chose this location due to its proximity to some popular Indian clothing stores we wanted to visit. Front desk was friendly and efficient. They allowed us an early check in at 10am but we arrived early before 9am, so we had breakfast at the restaurant on the ground floor. They serve a basic buffet breakfast of toast and two other Indian breakfast foods with accompanying curries and chutneys. It was delicious and piping hot! The coffee was wonderful. The restaurant also has an ala carte menu with more delectable choices and room service can be ordered from here. The room was small but very clean and comfortable. The shower doesn’t have a cubicle so the bathroom floor and toilet gets wet but the bathroom was clean and everything worked. Shampoo and bath gel is supplied ***** with a toothbrush. However, no toilet paper was provided so we went to buy some. I do not know if housekeeping would have provided some upon request as we didn’t ask. We also purchased mineral water for drinking purposes. The room has air conditioning and a ceiling fan. The mini fridge wasn’t working but Maintenance attended to it immediately when we called, and carried in a new mini fridge within 5 minutes. What was odd was that when the key card is removed, the power goes out for everything, including the fridge so wouldn’t recommend placing perishables in the fridge if you’re out all day. We ordered some fried chicken and a Briyani one evening from room service. Food came quickly but my chicken and the chicken in the Briyani was undercooked. We sent it back to be cooked again and to their credit, the kitchen called to ask if everything was ok and apologized for the inconvenience. I appreciated the courtesy. The food was scrumptious. The hotel is about a 5-10 minute walk from famous saree and clothing stores. We also booked Ubers to further locations but the drivers tend to cancel a lot. They prefer cash. Their Uber has an Auto option which is cheaper than booking a car. It gets you to your destination faster but somewhat traumatized by the driving conditions on Indian roads!!! it was fun zipping and zooming every which way ***** the crowded roads. The concierge was a very friendly and helpful young *** called Rauf. There was also another gentleman but I didn’t get his name. They were so pleasant and polite too. We found it a little difficult walking ***** the roads near the hotel as it was very narrow and there were no pavements till you got to the main road. It must have rained the morning we arrived as there were huge puddles dotted ***** the roads there and several were flooded. We were grateful that all the cars, bikes and autos always slowed down so as not to splash the muddy water on pedestrians. We asked for a late check out and paid for an extra 6 h
