1. The hotel photos differ significantly from the actual hotel. Cleanliness is lacking, especially on the outdoor terrace and outside the hotel entrance, which are filthy and appear to have not been cleaned in years. 2. The breakfast is poor, but for €25 per person, they can't even make omelets, and there are only one or two options, not much to eat, and no fruit. 3. The hotel has two floors, with the first floor serving as the restaurant. There are only five rooms on the second floor, and no elevator. Luggage is carried up 20 steps to the room. There are no room cards, so you're given a handwritten password, which is your room number. Since everyone knows the password, it's very unsafe. The main unacceptable thing is the smell of cooking fumes from the restaurant, which wafts into the room. 4. It's essentially a B&B, but it's listed on major platforms as a luxury hotel.

Bastio Private Suites is a superb place to stay when visiting Catania. The rooms are spacious and clean, the staff is excellent, and you are within walking distance of all shops, restaurants, and places to visit. We had to return to Rome a day early and the staff helped us make all the plane reservation changes. Bastio is a 5 star recommendation

Exceptional Hospitality and a Truly Unique Stay in Catania
Our stay in Catania was unforgettable, thanks to the one-of-a-kind room inspired by Mt. Etna's black lava—a stunning and creative design that made the experience feel truly special. There was even a luxurious sauna. Victoria and the entire staff went above and beyond in every way, making us feel genuinely cared for from the moment we arrived. With limited knowledge of the local language, we relied on their help to check in for our flight and confirm tour reservations—nothing was ever too much to ask. Victoria even recommended a fantastic beach resort for our day at San Lorenzo Beach. The level of service and hospitality was simply outstanding—it truly doesn’t get better than this.

The location is wonderful, the room was lovely, and unlike many hotels we hae stayed in that say the rooms are soundproofed, this one actually was! When we closed the window you would never know there was a street fair outside one morning. Staff were friendly and efficient, and went out of their way to make sure our needs were met. One idea to make a great experience even better: There is a large patio with comfortable furniture in the common area; a happy hour with wine and simple snacks would have been wonderful.

We had an amazing experience. Excellent location, well appointed room and very courteous and helpful staff. A boutique hotel very close to the main attractions. Comfortable and spacious rooms. Limited but nice breakfast layout. Overall very good experience.

An Unexpected Gem in the Heart of Catania
This hotel was an incredible surprise for us. It’s located just 200 meters from the Duomo of Catania, and as soon as you step inside, it feels like you’ve been transported to a castle. Celso went above and beyond to meet our needs — he made sure our room was ready before check-in time, arranged taxis for us, and even prepared breakfast 30 minutes earlier so we could eat before an early tour.
Communication was excellent throughout our stay. The hotel complex includes two amazing restaurants, and the Japanese restaurant was an especially delightful surprise. The room itself was spectacular: spacious, with high ceilings and beautiful decor.
We absolutely recommend this hotel and would stay here again without hesitation!

Unique boutique hotel literally 'in' the city walls of Catania with only 5 suites which ensures a truly personalized stay. Breakfast is deliciously fresh with all Sicilian specialties. The rooms are truly unique and provide a '1001 nights' vibe based on their location and the integration of the ancient structures. Having a terrace that looks onto the duomo's duomo in all serenity is priceless. Celso and his team make you feel at home and caters to any needs. They put us in contact with a great local guide who create individualized private tours to both the Etna and Siracusa. The 'Aqualavica' restaurant downstairs serves fresh Sicilian delicacies. If you want to have an exclusive and great couple of days in Catania this is your place to be! We will return.

This property is very beautifuly decorated. The original stone structure is beautiful and addition is mordern and tasteful. Staff was kind. Breakfast is delicious and high quality.
