Cabot Cala Ferrera

Just back from a lovely week in Cala Ferrera as a family of 4 with our 3 and 6 year olds. Location: Just perfect! Everything you could possibly need in walking distance. Beach, boat trips, bars and restaurants, taxis, bus stop, pharmacy, shops, car hire, laundrette. The coach transfer is quite long with all the drop offs (up to 2 hours), so would recommend a taxi if possible. Food: We found the food to be great, there was always something we liked and plenty of choice for each meal. The restaurant opening times were good too and we found it never to be overly busy either. There are snacks in the pool bar when the restaurant is closed. We did hear some people complaining about the food choices but didn’t agree with them. If you’re a fussy eater then maybe don’t expect to come to Spain and have all English food! There are also lots of restaurants nearby if you want a change one day! Staff: The staff were all really lovely and couldn’t do enough for you! There was one miserable guy on the bar in the evenings, but everyone else was great! Zack the kids entertainer was excellent and the kids loved him! Esmerelda from the bar and restaurant was lovely too and always chatting to the kids. The hotel was spotless and always lots of staff around cleaning and keeping everything tidy. Entertainment: There was something on every night apart from Saturday when we were there. The kids disco and then something following it, such as a quiz, karaoke or singers. The kids club was on for a couple of hours a day, but the facilities in there weren’t great and our children didn’t want to stay. Rooms: We knew before we arrived that the rooms would be dated, so this wasn’t a surprise for us. We were concerned about the bunk beds as there wasn’t a bar on both sides of the top and we soon realised when our 3 year old climbed up and fell straight down the back of it hitting her head off the window and landing on the bottom bunk. After that we made sure she didn’t go up there and pushed the bed firmly against the window. But I was anxious about our 6 year old sleeping up there and feel the beds are rusty and old and need changing. The rung on the ladder snapped as it was so rusty, however the reception staff sent someone up to change it straight away. The mattresses themselves are super comfy though and we all slept really well! The room was clean and you could have them cleaned everyday if needed. We paid extra for a sea view room and it was worth it, the view was stunning! We did hear that you get a smaller room if you want the views, but that didn’t bother us, the room size was fine for us. I really think some people came to this hotel expecting a 5 star resort when I heard what some were complaining about! It’s 3 star and at the cheaper end of the scale for holidays, espcially as prices have increased this year. In our opinion the place is great, not perfect and in need of some upgrades, but the staff clearly work very hard and it is very well run. One

I booked this hotel as a last minute surprise for my husband's birthday. We stayed 4 nights, bed & breakfast, but only tried the breakfast on first morning and unfortunately we were put off by the poor quality of the cooked offerings, although appreciate this was our choice and if we'd chosen pastries, toast etc it may have been a little better. We ended up having breakfast each morning in the little restaurant on the beach which was super. The room was basic but clean and the beds were really comfortable. There was no fridge which was disappointing and the TV didn't work at all (we didn't care about that though). There is a water station in the bar which you can help yourself to and take to the rooms. The reception staff were super friendly and we were left a card and bottle of wine for my husband's birthday, which we really appreciated and thought a lovely touch. We think the cleaning lady may have seen his birthday cards in our room and suggested this - thank you. We had a side sea-view which we were thrilled with as we hadn't booked a sea view room as there's an extra cost involved with this. The location of the hotel is what will win you over, absolutely stunning views down to the beach and over the cove. We spent our days on the beach rather than at the pool, as we preferred this but the pool area seemed to be popular so must be quite nice. The hotel is mainly all inclusive, which is fine if that's your thing, but we prefer to be free to choose where to eat etc. Cala D'or is about 25 minutes walk away with the marina a further 15-20 minutes, so we got taxis in and walked (staggered) back to the hotel. The taxi rank is just up the road from the hotel but it got a bit tricky to find a taxi, but the hotel were happy to order one for us, which did arrive on time and they cost around 5 to 7 euro. We thoroughly enjoyed our short break in Cala Ferrera and would certainly return to the area, although not necessarily to the hotel.

We have just been for a week half board and have mixed feelings. The area is wonderful and the beach is really close and beautiful. The view was great from the hotel and dining room. The staff were friendly. However, the hotel is outdated and needs revamping. We paid for a family room (4) and it was very small, really just a double with a bunk bed stuck up the corner. The bunk bed was extremely old and very uncomfortable. We paid for a room with a view and it was ruined by a bunk bed stuck in front of it. No glass door and the room felt dark when closed as we also couldn't open the window curtain due to the bunk bed. The food was okay, but a lot of people we spoke to said it wasn't suitable for their needs. Wouldn't come again.

Travelled with a young family and safe to say we wouldn’t stay here again!! First impressions of the hotel weren’t too bad with the hotel lobby and reception looking clean and fairly modern, we had a room with a sea view which was the only good thing about it, the bunk beds provided were not safe at all and had no bar to potentially stop the kids rolling and falling out of bed, the air conditioning did not work at all and when I mentioned this to reception the man just shrugged his shoulders and didn’t want to know! The food here is terrible and not labeled for allergies and intolerances! Zach from the entertainment team is diamond and without him the hotel would be very very boring!! I would not recommend families coming here as they don’t want families they just want couples and they make this very clear! Avoid this hotel if you want an enjoyable relaxing holiday, you’d find much better alternatives for your money that’s for sure!
