Cascade Gardens

Lovely little oasis within walking dustance of centre. Fab little pool fir relaxing in after a day out. Very good value for money.

My stay at Cascade Gardens was a little disappointing. The location looks good on paper, since it is just 15-20 minutes by walking from the Esplanade and the Marina, but if you go in the opposite direction, just walking around the area does not feel safe at all, especially at night. Communication with the property is a little slow, sometimes taking around a day to get an answer and I didn't even get a response to my question on how to check out at early hours. The rooms are spacious and the bed is comfortable, but the cleanliness is a clear issue in the property. For example, the carpet on the floor had hundreds of hairs from other people, at least that I could extract...

Our second visit to Cascade gardens and booked for next year. One bedroom apartment includes laundry with washing machine and drier, kitchenette, no oven but cooktop, microwave, toaster etc, comfortable king-size bed and private courtyard. Upon leaving we accidently left an envelope containing a fairly large sum of money. At the airport Irne, the receptionist called to tell me the staff had found it on a shelf in the wardrobe. It is great that there are still honest people about. Had we not been told we would never have been aware that we had lost it.

Amazing little family owned hotel, like a little hidden paradise! Also the cleanest hotel that I have ever stayed on, our room was so clean when we arrived that you could have eaten off the floor. Everything was spotless and beautiful. The hotel garden and pool are a little small, but so beautiful and relaxing! The plants make the area feel hidden from rest of the world. All the staff was really nice, but the star was the family's cat who you could often find resting in the lobby. I love him and went to look for him every morning to pet him! Location is great, close enough to the beach esplanade and everything is within a walking distance.

Really wanted to love this place. On the positive, its location is OK, though not central, its very close to the aquarium and esplanade. BUT its also on the main road to the nearby public and private hospital, so traffic at all hours, especially ambulances make it noisy. That said, it's not near the party area, BUT the one pub nearby didn't look like anywhere I'd want to enter, and drunks yelling and screaming at each other on their way past, not only disturbed our sleep, it made waiting for an UBER / UBER-eats out front a bit uncomfortable. Room is an average size, and it was good to have a full sized fridge, washing machine and drier available, BUT don't expect any little extras. 2 mini soaps and the cheapest instant coffee available - and not much of that either is about the sum total of your welcome pack. Room was clean enough BUT the painted tiles (yes painted) are cracking and the washing machine was musty (guys, keep the door open). We ran a cycle before using...oh and bring your own powder! No service for stays shorter than 5 days (we stayed 5) and warnings everywhere that if you leave a few dishes dirty or don't remove your own rubbish before leaving you will be charged. Had a nice little balcony off the lounge, BUT it had 2 air conditioners lobbed on it, so it became unusable. We were on the 3rd floor, well away from everyone else (be aware stairs only!) which made it quiet from guest noise, BUT they had pest controllers spraying for bugs on day 3, which was a bit annoying, and left wet patches everywhere in the room when we came back. Didn't notice until we stepped in the poison! Only found 1 dead bug afterwards though. Lounge area was comfortable and nicely furnished, BUT the bed squeaked and sagged in the middle. Pool was good, though a bit fresh and parking was VERY good. Cascade gardens is a bit tired, (as am I after staying here), but its not awful. don't have your expectations too high, and don't pay too much. In comparison with where we stayed for similar money in Pt Douglas, its below par...I wouldn't stay again, but I've also stayed in much worse.

Everything feels old, almost run-down. Dead cockroach under the bed, very bad matress, no toiletries in the shower. The staff disappears from the place after 12 on Saturday and no one on Sunday. If you call them and that’s not an emergency they make you pay a fee. That is just ridiculous for the price you pay. I tried to call them to shorten our stay but never had anyone on the phone…

We (one couple) stayed on Tues 28-May-24, for 6 nights. Cairns was our holiday destination, so we selected Cascades because it is close to the city centre and esplanade (walking distance, we walked it many times). Owner/manager was helpful, service was great, thank you. Off-street safe parking. We were in an upstairs unit, and no noise from the road. Unit was large, comfortable and clean. Kitchen area worked well. Laundry room was out-of-order (being upgraded), but we could use laundromat about 10 mins walk away. Plenty to do in Cairns !!! Then add Port Douglas and may attractions in the area. Cascade Gardens is recommended.
