We booked a Superior twin room, and the bedroom & bathroom were both very modern and spacious. I would say more close to a four star standard than the one star, which is the hotel's official rating. Lovely position and very close to the train station. Historic building which looks amazing. Breakfast is available at extra cost, but there were son many places to eat close by that we didn't bother taking breakfast at the hotel. My only criticism was (we had booked via a famous hotel booking website) that the word 'balcony' conjured an image of sat out watching the world go by. However, the balcony is in fact a Juliet Balcony around 12 inches deep, so it is barely possible to stand on it. Any images I had of sat outside sipping my favorite drink, were soon quashed. All the rooms looked to have the same type of 'balcony'. Nevertheless, an excellent hotel.

Me voy contento, mis acompañantes no tanto.

We stayed here for 5 nights after recommendation from a friend and were certainly not disappointed. Renovated from the cloisters of a church which is still in use, we felt a sense of calm as soon as we entered the courtyard from the bustling streets outside. Don’t be misled by the 1-star official rating - we assume that’s because it doesn’t have a restaurant (for lunch/dinner), pool, gym etc. - but the comfort, decor, service are all very high 4-star in our view. The bedrooms and public areas have retained the character of the convent, whilst also being well-equipped and air-conditioned. Location very convenient for the train/bus stations, city centre and beaches - definitely don’t need a car here. Breakfast was served in the corner of the cloisters, from what would have been a chapel - excellent variety of hot and cold items on the buffet - local and international. We’ll be back!

We lucked out on this one! Its an interesting place, a former convent, in a great location in the old town. There is public parking across the road which we picked up for €16 a day. The hotel is (I think) a catholic church convention centre...it certainly has that feel to it. There is no bar or resturant, but you get a fabulous breakfast in the morning..pastries, fruit, cheese and meats, good coffee, juice, etc. We had a junior suite with breakfast for €124. I would strongly suggest giving the reception a call to see if they have any deals going on. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

The hotel is very well located a short walk (like 5 minutes) from the train station, and it felt in the middle of all the sites we wanted to see. It was clean and had all the amenities we needed. Only a 2-person fitness area but if you are in Cádiz you should be getting your exercise by walking everywhere. Nice breakfast. But I MUST give a huge shout out to the staff, who quickly helped us when we learned the day of our arrival that we had booked the wrong dates and we not supposed to check in until the following day. They fixed it quickly which made the rest of our day much more enjoyable. They also gave great recommendations for a walking history tour and restaurants.

The staff are friendly and helpful and the building is beautiful and breakfast was very good. Location is also good near the Plaza de San Juan de Dios. Beds are so so and the walls a little this as noise from nearby rooms carry. The parking is nearby and easy in and out if paid through the hotel which costs a little more than the standard rate but guarantees a parking spot. Important in a town with too little parking in the old town. Decent value for the money.

This hotel, in a former convent, initially gives the impression of quiet beauty — the downstairs tiled courtyard is lovely. It also has the considerable convenience of being a 5 minute walk from the train station. Unfortunately, our room itself was far less satisfactory. It had an unpleasant smell — drains? — and there were none of the standard amenities (just body wash — no separate shampoo, conditioner, moisturizing cream, dental kit etc.) found routinely in other mid-range Spanish hotels. There were admonitory notices on various matters, from what kind of towels to use for what purpose to how many bottles of water came free (perhaps the tonal problems were a function of infelicities in translation, but they did rather remind one of the hectoring voices of old style English seaside landladies). In any case, there was only one thin towel per person, plus one small dark towel to allow one to fulfil the directive of not using white ones to remove make-up. Just two coffee capsules were provided, and the milk in one of the only two milk capsules was curdled. But in the event this didn’t matter because the coffee maker didn’t work, and in fact leaked. The street noise at night was substantial, and continued until 4 a.m. In short, the whole experience felt somewhat meagre, and not what one expects from a hotel in this range (the charge for one night was €160, in what was supposedly a superior room). The staff were pleasant enough, so these shortcomings should be laid at the door of management, not those engaging directly with guests. The management really needs to try harder to justify their price point in what should be a distinctive and convenient hotel.
