How can a foreigner know it's a self-served check in if it is even not written on the description of the hotel? The building is hard to find as it's a shared residence with another hotel with a different name, and there is just a very small notice in Korean which is impossible to be read. Of course I went to the wrong front desk of the shared hotel and was told by the staff (he was nice though) I have to call the host of Grand Hotel by myself.
Foreigners usually use data card for travelling nowadays, they cannot make local phone calls or texts. Then how am I suppose to call the host? Without any help and had waited for over an hour I had to ask my friend in Korea to help me call the host, telling us that he had sent a message to me about the room number and password for the room. Where the hell did I get the message? On my foreigner's phone number? On my email? With self service check in it doesn't actually matter, but the host has to make sure that the customers receive all the information especially for a first time customer like me to stay with the hotel, not to mention he was really rude when my friend called him for help. It spent me 2 hours for the whole check in procedure.
And more unfortunately I couldn't sleep at night because of the filthy bedsheets and blankets which had small bugs biting me all night.
HaeunDae is definitely a good place in Busan but not the experience in Grand Hotel.
