Hotel Adornes

This was my second time in the beautiful city of Bruges and this time I chose a hotel in an area I had previously only briefly explored. And I am so glad I did! This sweet little hotel is on the "quiet side" of Bruges yet still a comfortable walk to the Main Market Square and the more energetic tourist areas. My room was on the first floor with large windows that opened right onto the canal. I had a large bathroom with a 6-foot bathtub and what a pleasure it was to come in from a cold February evening to a hot soak in that tub. Service of my room was invisible; I never saw a human cleaner, a vacuum cleaner or a broom, but my room was always fresh and clean. The proprietor, Jillie (sp?) was friendly and helpful in providing directions and recommendations for dining. While checking out I noticed and admired his statue of "Tintin in the Congo" and learned that he made the purchase in the Congo! I would have enjoyed hearing more about his love for travel in Africa, but the taxi he ordered for me arrived and I was off to the train station. Bruges is comprised of street after street of cobblestone charm, and it was very nice staying in a different part of this beautiful city in February. If I should ever return, I'd choose the Hotel Adornes again. While February was quite cold as expected, I thoroughly enjoyed the absence of big tourist crowds and the luxury of taking crowd-free photographs.
