The White Lion Inn

Best pub for miles around. We keep trying other places but always come back to the white Lion. You can’t beat it for the food, atmosphere and surroundings. We feel very lucky to live so close. We have eaten here, probably 15 times, including quite a large birthday table and never had a disappointing meal. Portion size is also good considering the high-quality of the food. I always leave feeling it was good value and exceptional cooking.

Landlord needs people skills, ask politely if we could be seated in a less noisy part of pub, was told “. No “. Landlord then proceeded to tell other customers, that I had complained about their noise, making a most uncomfortable meal. Food very good, Karen waitress, was excellent.

My husband and I stayed at the White Lion Inn for one night while en route to visit friends, and we couldn’t have been more impressed. Despite seeing some negative reviews prior to our stay, we found them completely unfounded. The pub is a stunning example of a place run by people who truly love what they do. The warm, welcoming atmosphere made us feel at home instantly. Booking through ******* was straightforward, and the room rate was very reasonable. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly. After enjoying a couple of drinks in the beautifully decorated bar, we were shown upstairs to Room 2. The room was an absolute delight – a blend of antiques and upcycled furniture, brought together with exceptional design. The newly refurbished bathroom had everything we needed for our stay. The welcome tray in the bedroom was generously stocked with tea, coffee, milk, bottled water, cans of Coke, and a jar of homemade biscuits. There was even a Nespresso machine for freshly brewed coffee. Roman blinds blocked out the streetlights, ensuring a peaceful night’s sleep. The room was cosy and warm, and dinner was simply outstanding. Both our starters and main courses were cooked to perfection, clearly prepared with care and love. The staff were attentive, friendly, and highly professional throughout. We enjoyed our stay so much that we’ve already booked to return on December 1st for their annual Community Christmas celebrations. Breakfast the next morning was another highlight – a freshly cooked full English, with coffee brewed at our table and decaf tea for me. Every detail was thoughtfully considered to make sure we enjoyed our stay. Highly recommend!

We went for supper last night and were not disappointed, sat in the lovely interesting garden for a drink , so nice Food was very good, and good staff to look after a busy night Only thing for me was a cat was allowed to roam around and sit on the dining chairs Sorry but don’t think appropriate. Other than that enjoyed it

Lovely pub and delicious lunch. Great atmosphere and very good service. Also lovely gardens. Delicious chicken wings with blue cheese dip and oyster mushroom bruschetta with Stilton sauce. My favourite dessert affogato was beautifully served. Thoroughly recommend

Lovely pub, incredible garden, just a shame the landlord clearly hates interacting with customers or helping his staff serve! Laughable experience, I feel sorry for his employees. Beer was lovely on the other hand, such a shame because this place could be so great.

Fabulous food, great service. Lovely to see it so busy on a mid week night. Great menu to choose from. The steak and kidney pie was one of the best I've had.

This is an absolute find. Oh why has it taken so long to find it? First off, wonderful atmosphere, then an interesting menu, good drink, fabulous food and caring cheerful service. If that sounds like high praise it is. Wonderful and it goes top equal on technical merit with our previous favourite but might just shave it on artistic impression.

Very nice village inn, great selection of beer and ciders, we had the Sunday roast, the beef was well cooked and rare,the chicken supreme was very good, nice selection of vegetables and fantastic roast potatoes. I had bread pudding with whisky and orange, fantastic dessert. The service was attentive and cheerful
