Our initial one-night stay at Rumah Boedi Borobudur left such an incredible impression on us that we decided to come back after moving to another hotel for one night. We even postponed our departure just to enjoy more time at this amazing place!

Beautiful location, well-kept garden, very pleasant common areas.
Very basic room, it would need to be renovated. Twice we were left without water in the room: we had to ask for it and it was reactivated

This is truly very distinguished place i have ever experienced, nicely quiet and blended well with big Progo river at the back and traditional village around it. The location is near Borobudur temple, Pawon temple (very near) and Mendut temple. The village around hotel is also very interesting to be journey by morning jogging around it. As there are a lot of near tourism spot like Rengginang Cracker local home industry, Tingal Art batik, Paddy rice with Menoreh Hill scenery and also EloProgo art gallery and cafe which is very nice place to see by yourself and by walking only. Very great hotel and definitely worth for recommending to friends and any traveller. 👍❤️

Despite its non-functioning website and wrong phone numbers everywhere (the one you want is +62 821-3476-2834) this place does exist and is operating. A mixed experience. The pros are that it’s an attractive and peaceful place with plenty of garden in which to sit and read; the staff are lovely; and the Indonesian food was excellent. The solicitous owner is keen to make your time enjoyable. He also immediately understood my veganism and ensured a steady stream of increasingly esoteric and mostly delicious vegan Indonesian dishes from the kitchen for me, which I appreciated. The cons include that it’s a little dilapidated, the room could done with redecoration and rewiring, and are musty upholstery and soft furnishing that don’t really work in gardens and pavilions in a hot, humid climate. Food and drinks, though excellent, are overpriced. The owner’s enthusiasm for looking after you is a little overwhelming and misjudged. And we were unimpressed by his charging us, for a third night, double what we’d paid online for the first two nights, having said he’d give us a ‘fair price’ for that extra night — a figure that was reduced only marginally when I raised an eyebrow, making the whole stay frankly overpriced for what it was. Lonely Planet gives this place a star and writes of a ‘magnificent garden’ and a ‘magical retreat and spa’. If those were once true they aren’t now, and it’s far from Lonely Planet ‘star’ quality. It’s not bad, but you can find more magic for less money at many mid-range rural guesthouses around Indonesia. Walking around, it looked like there may be a fair few in Borobudur. Note that the temple is no longer open on Mondays, and you can only walk around the base of it at the moment — not that the organisation that runs it thinks this is information worth mentioning on its website (where they’re even happy to sell you a Monday ticket online). The temple is, despite all that, astonishing and well worth travelling to see.

Apart from being surrounded by lush green garden, its a dilapidated residence. I was the only one occupying one room in the residence. Toilet door got locked at 10pm. Since no phone in the room, on that still night I could not find anybody in the reception. Manage to see the gate keeper lying down and resting in one corner wearing in ear phones. He noticed me got me another room. There were two lizards in the room to provide me with stereophonic hissing sounds throughout the night. While booking, website stated junior suites were all booked, but I got there, it was all empty and I was told of an upgrade to the deserted junior suite would cost an addition more than what I paid for the room. Breakfast and since there was nobody at the residence, I was offered mee goreng or fried rice, with coffee and papaya(not as good as what the owner claimed) Toilet paper was at its minimum and no additional ones left in the room. I travel widely and in total, its one of my worst experience. Later I found out that there are many more well kept places to stay in borobodur.
