Popular Bishop＇s Stortford 4-star Hotels

Lovely little hotel very close to Stanstead Airport. It was being refurbished unfortunatley, so had some issues with wifi, but I was upgraded to a double room immediartely. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I was missing a small fridge and a toilet brush, which should be stadard in a four star establishment.

We recently enjoyed a delightful afternoon tea with family at Down Hall, and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The building itself is stunning, with beautiful historic architecture and a grand atmosphere that sets the perfect mood for a special afternoon. Our experience was truly enhanced by Jane, who looked after us so well. She was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our time together. It’s rare to find such genuine care and attention in service, and Jane truly went above and beyond. From the delicious treats to the elegant setting, every detail made for a memorable afternoon. We had a fantastic time and highly recommend Down Hall for anyone looking for a charming afternoon tea experience. Thank you, Down Hall, and special thanks to Jane for making it unforgettable!

One night before a flight, small room but everything you need for an overnight stay, comfy big bed, tea and coffee making facilities, tv and mini fridge, we had a room at the rear of the hotel so quieter than the front, we would definitely stay again if we had an early flight.

Got to the B&B and everything was as we would expect until we attempted to use the shower room sink. Water pouring from beneath. As we arrived late we conceeded we would not disturb the owners so spoke to them in the morning to let them know that we could not use our sink. Simply told that it was strange as it had been fixed recently. Later mentioned that we still found it pretty unnacceptable that we were without the use of the entire sink so requested a 10 to 20% discount of room cost as the facility was unusable to then be told “well you only use a sink for brushing teeth… so there is nothing we will do”. Pretty awful response imo. Not a huge fan of washing my hands in the shower every time we use the toilet or shaving for example. But that is what we were expected to do by the owner. Feel free to book this hotel if that’s the kind of hospitality you would like.

I usually check hotel reviews very carefully but as this was booked as part of a hotel parking package I didn't bother- after all, we were only in the hotel for 8 hours... I have since read many reviews and I have to say, I don't agree with all of it. The receptionist was perfectly nice and there was some noise from other guests during the night but nothing too bad. The room was clean and the bathroom was spotless. My issue was bedbugs! I didn't realise initially how badly I'd been bitten as the bites only started to materialise after a few days....but when they did, HOLY MOLY! (My husband didn't appear to be bitten at all, or if he was, he showed no signs) I, however, was absolutely made a meal of. I must've had between 60 & 80 bites and after a week they were so bad I needed medical attention and a course of steroids to stop the itching. I have never been bitten by bedbugs before and I never want to again. I will definitely check all hotel reviews from now on, even if it is a quick overnight stay. Think very carefully before you choose this hotel!
