Property Description
A warm welcome and traditional hospitality awaits guests at the Plough and Harrow Hotel in Edgbaston, Birmingham. The red brick Victorian architecture of the original building together with the large garden, lawns and plentiful car parking serves to set the Plough Harrow Hotel apart from other Birmingham hotels. Built in 1704, originally as a wayside inn, the hotel has over the centuries become steeped in history and is recalled by many as being one of the most popular places to stay in Birmingham during the 1980s early 1990s and was the Egon Ronay hotel of the year in 1984. The restaurant was renowned as the place to dine at lunch and dinner and the hotel was regularly frequented by celebrities, politicians and personalities of the time. Unfortunately from the mid 1990s the hotel suffered from a lack of investment from a number of corporate owners and it changed ownership several times. In 2010 the hotel returned to private ownership for the first time in 50 odd years and TTM Partnership LLP, the new owners, commenced a gradual plan of phased investment refurbishment which is expected to take up to 10 years to complete and will ultimately cover all areas of the property. The ultimate aim is to return the hotel its historic position as a good quality, independent boutique hotel in Birmingham and being the hotel of choice for corporate leisure travelers, wedding receptions, local functions events as well as an everyday place to enjoy lunch, dinner or afternoon teas. When the existing public areas bedrooms are refurbished consideration will be given to expand the hotel and possibly include a spa beauty facility although this is likely to be around 2020 onwards.

Visiting Birmingham on a business trip and decided to stay here. A little further than my colleagues, though absolutely worth it! Tram and bus stops are barely 5 minutes away from the hotel. The breakfast standard and tasty with loads of options. The room was also really clean, with all amenities. Toiletries provide include: shower gel (&shampoo duo), soap bar and lotion. There is a tea station, no biscuits though. The staff are also really really nice. I am a light sleeper, and I wasn't woken up at any point from noise which I appreciate. The beds are decent, not my fave but I can be fussy with these things. Overall, I would definitely come back! I am also a massive Tolkien fan, so the plaque outside was exciting to see. A couple minutes up Highfield road, there is a plaque for one of Tolkien's homes too :)

Historical Hotel with tons of charm and comfort If you are looking for a hotel with charm and an old world feel, this is it. While it's not one of those chain hotels, it's got a comfy, cozy feeling with lots of history (Tolkien stayed here). The rooms are very comfortable with lots of charm & character. I can't say enough about how nice & welcoming the staff is either. Top notch. Order the morning breakfast, well worth the cost. Very close to Uni of Birmingham & about 2 miles from Bull Ring, downtown area. Right on transit routes, so no need for a car. Very close by a grocery store. Honestly, couldn't be happier with my choice. If you are looking for a chain hotel, this isn't it, but if you are looking for something different, this is the place for you. 6 out of 5 stars. AMAZING
