Motel One Berlin-Potsdamer Platz

Great stay. Rooms are small but that was expected for a Motel One. Shower head and water pressure nice; beds and linens comfortable and all very clean. We requested a quiet room and were given one facing a courtyard/park that was indeed super quiet. Location was excellent for Checkpoint Charlie, Brandenburg Gate, etc. with easy U-Bahn and S-Bahn connections. I went to use the bathroom on the third floor the day we checked out and only then realized that the bar and lounge space there was absolutely lovely…wish we had used it during our stay. All in all a solid bet for Berlin as long as you don’t mind a cozy space.

I booked this hotel as I was running the Berlin Marathon. The location was PERFECT - it was right near the metro station - literally about a minute's walk. It was also very close to a mall, several restaurants and also within walking distance to the marathon start line. The room itself was a little dated but it was comfortable enough for my short stay. Staff were friendly and the breakfast, which I found limited, was sufficient for all intents and purposes. Would have liked some more warm food options though! HOWEVER...I extended my stay for an additional night about an hour after booking and was told to pay the extra amount when checking in at the hotel. I checked in online due to an email I received from the hotel requesting me to do so and also paid the additional amount - the system would not let me complete check-in until this was paid. I did so, and received successful confirmation. This was all done before catching my flight to Berlin. When I arrived at the hotel, I was told I owed them money. It took a while to resolve but in the end was all ok. However, on two additional occasions, one being right after the marathon when all I wanted to do was to be in my room, and another when I arrived back very late at night, I was locked out of my room on the basis of owing money. This was frustrating and not a good look considering it happened on multiple occasions. The hotel is great in terms of location, safety of area and pleasantness of staff. But they should try to stay on top of admin errors. Mistakes happen and that's fine - but not the same one repeatedly, in the course of one stay.
