Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Bakersfield Central

The staff were friendly. There were complimentary coffees and tea station at the lobby, the guests can get the drinks anytime. The mini buffet food was good and there’s a self made waffle station which was interesting to have.

On the surface this hotel is attractive for the price. However, the king bed had one of the most uncomfortable mattresses I have slept on. My side of the bed tilted to the floor. It was simply unacceptable! The breakfast was satisfactory and the hotel was clean but I cannot recommend.

Hampton Inn, new location, Bakersfield. Executive summary: I will not be staying there again. Pre check in. Car parked in front, probably checking in, except nobody in the lobby besides the clerk at the counter and myself. Probably not since it was still parked there after we came back from dinner 3+ hours after check in. Lime Green Chrysler product, Challenger perhaps? Odds it was an employee car??? Scattered rain that day, I guess only 1 customer gets to park in a covered area, not two. Check in. The well tattooed woman wasn’t quite rude, but close. A robot would have been friendlier. Business cordial? Ha. Got me checked in though. Parking lot. Gated, access with room key. Hotel entrance in the middle, makes sense, but only wide spot was at the front, an ADA ramp. So schlep luggage between cars or walk 50 feet one way and 50 feet back. Nice attention to detail. Room. Door hard to open, too HD a door closer poorly mounted and adjusted. Why do it right if you can just do it. Vertical shades on a pull chain, one sheer the other blackout. Neither is a nice easy pull, but the blackout one is going to be suffering early and frequent failures. And the window doesn’t open of course. Heat-A/C. Finally got the fan turned on, but it shut off by itself a couple of hours later. Early onset Alzheimer’s? Or just too cheap to let me try to stay comfortable? Bath light. An auto switch. OK at times, but can’t be disabled so those 3AM RR calls one is greeted with a very bright light walking in. The built in night light is plenty, but not for the mental midget who designed or spec’d this one. Taking a shower or bath? Make it quick as that same light will time out and put you in the dark. Sticking my arm out of the shower wouldn’t turn it back on either. Classy, not at all. Thumping noise for 2 hours starting at 6AM. Rythmic, very odd. I would guess some sort of a maintenance/mechanical issue. Not pleasant however. Room is too small and narrow. Needs just another 2 feet or so. Uncomfortable chair, only one of course. No table. Microwave wants to be set in minutes only, great for a little coffee reheat. Phone on night table by beds, taking up half the limited real estate there. It’s a new place, architects/designers should know everyone has a cell and often a lot more these days that likes to live on the nightstand. TV. Everything seemed to default to Netflix, which I’m sure is pay per view. Click on Broadcast TV and up comes Netflix. You know how every hotel/motel always has a little tiny pad of paper with about a dozen sheets on it and a pen with the hotel name? This place didn’t. Passwork they gave me for WIFI didn’t work, but they gave me another code that did. Bed was comfortable and lots of pillows. Breakfast was decent and better than average. Lots of electrical and USB outlets. Overall it was impressive how little attention to detail was paid, almost like they went out of their way to make for
