As a relatively frequent visitor to the Savoy Park beer garden, I usually partake in a cuppa or a drink but up until this point (since the new owners took over) NOT for food. Was always aware that the Savoy's reputation for food had slipped a bit in recent years, perhaps COVID lockdowns had something to do with that. Important to document first that the new owners work incredibly hard on putting their own stamp on what is a very nice place. Social media activity is very prominent with regular events which is great to see. Over the weekend my partner and I decided to give the restaurant a bash and see if the new owners have improved on general quality. Choice within the menu is excellent, I had the scallop and kale starter and my partner going for their prawn cocktail. Scallops were incredibly disappointing, way over cooked, charred and really oily. Crispy kale was shrivelled kale and very little of it. I let my partner have a scallop and she couldn't believe how rubbery and tough it was. Her prawn cocktail was a large portion and she said it was ok but marked it 3/10. Main courses? I have the blackened salmon with tenderstem broccoli. Salmon was oily, way way over cooked again with the potato mash sat there and clearly had been lying for a while. Very very disappointing. My partner had the beef cheek which was a cracking sized of portion, too much in fact for her. Her issue was the mashed potato and the pepper sauce which (she likes spicy food too ) which she described as very very spicy. In the end she couldn't finish the dish. We both agreed that the quality of execution and cookery was pretty poor to say the least which is such a shame. If the Savoy had a really reliable Chef I think it would be a quality addition to the work and real effort the new owner's have put in, which is significant. Such a pity when food doesn't live upto the venue itself.

I recently attended a wedding at this venue and was totally horrified at the unprofessionalism of the venue from start to finish. The room was threw together to say the least. There was nobody in charge apart from a Chinese woman who is apparently the owner who clearly does not know how to run a wedding or anything on that matter. The toilets were in need of a good clean which in my opinion should be a priority in any establishment open to the public. We were the only people in the hotel the full day which is not surprising as the venue was dirty and dull is the only way I can describe it. The only upside was the young members of staff who were working really hard on the day.

I have written a complaint to the hotel and I am yet to have a reply so I thought it was time to share my views. We were accused of not paying for our room when we arrived, we had paid, just bad communication from the staff. The hotel was extremely shabby and smelly, it needs a revamp. Our room was so warm on arrival we couldn’t actually stay in there for long, I was 6 month pregnant at the time and it made me feel sick. The bathroom hadn’t been cleaned and the toilet was….well rather disgusting. We were given the excuse they had had to clean all the rooms that day so was hard to keep track. They did eventually acquire a fan for us but it did very little. The room was shabby and again pictures on the website set false expectations. Lots of mould of the windows in both the bathroom and the bedroom. We only ate breakfast there as didn’t want to risk a bad meal, very average. All in all we were very disappointed with our experience especially with the price we paid.

Stayed while working away on business. Lucy and her staff were very welcoming. Great bar prices, comfy beds and fantastic breakfast. Fantastic old hotel with lots of character. We won’t stay anywhere else next time we are in the area. Highly recommended.

Awful experience .the place is dated and has its day in the 80,s. Breakfast was just awful.Cold everything.Cheap sausages and bacon and black pudding was awful. Our room was stuffy and uncomfortable. The stairs leading up to it are horrendous.attic room .this wasn’t what I expected.Fawlty towers comes to mind. The tv didn’t work properly either. How anyone could say the breakfast was great is beyond me.When we sat down for breakfast the waitress said”whit dae yi want?”I said “I don’t know”as there was no menu.I asked if there was any fruit ,watermelon etc,she said”nuhin like that!”My wife’s French toast was awful, dripping in grease. She was scared to ask for another glass of juice.😂.Needless to say we won’t be back.

I paid £135 for one night in this hotel - £80 would still be too much. I arrived at 4pm and was told my room wasn’t ready despite the check starting from 3 pm. The room was clean and tidy and in good decorative order. There was no iron or ironing board, no tissues, no shampoo. The shower. leaked and the sink plug didn’t work properly. The last order in the restaurant was 7pm. I had the chicken curry, rice, popadoms and unions. I was served a big bowl of curry with rice underneath and a small ramekin of unions sitting on top of the curry. I couldn’t see the rice as it was below the curry. It was disgusting and unhygienic because the ramekin was actually in the curry itself - I sent it back and left. I have stayed in this hotel several times but will never stay in it again. I gave it 1 star because the room was nice and the bed was comfy.
